Indonesia - Proliga 2016

  • The Indonesia League “Proliga” 2016 turns out to be a real competitive ground as former star spikers have joined the top-notch competition which is due to take place between February 19 to May 15.

    The three-month-long tournament features 12 clubs including six apiece in the men’s and women’s categories to vie for the top honours. Pitted against one another in the women’s competition are Bekasi Bina Bolavoli Nusantara, Jakarta Electric PLN, Jakarta Pertamina Energi, Jakarta PGN Popsivo, Gresik Petrokimia and Manokwari Valeria Papua Barat.

    The women’s event will see cream of the crop test their mettle, with Jakarta Pertamina Energi fielding veteran Logan Tom, silver medalist of the Olympic Games 2008 in China and 2012 in London. She is an experienced and all-round player who has played four consecutive Olympics.With the formidable player in the line-up, Jakarta Pertamina Energi have emerged as the title-hotshots. Aside from Tom, the team also have a formidable player in former Brazilian spiker Marianne Steinbrecher, who was in the Olympic gold-winning Brazil in Beijing, China in 2008.

    Former Chinese wing spiker Wang Yimei and Zhang Lei will spearhead the Jakarta Electric PLN. Wang Yimei, known as a hard- hitting spiker, took the broze medal on her home soil in the Olympic Games 2008. Suffering from a serious injury, she decided to call it a day from the Chinese national team. However, her return to the professional volleyball means that she is able to play and still a dangerous player.

    Meanwhile, former Chinese national players Li Jing and Yang Zhou will join in PGN Popsivo, while former Thailand national player Amporn Hyapha, who joined the Thailand team which won the Asian Championship twice in 2009 and 2013 will play under the Bekasi Bina Bolavoli Nusantara’s banner.
