Brazilian League 2016/2017

  • She didnt play yet. I do not have any info about the subject If She has arrived in Minas.

  • Hooker has a history of causing trouble wherever she goes, so I won't be surprised if she only arrives in Brazil next year. Even the team itself is doing a campaign on twitter asking her to come soon...

  • Bruno Voluch posted Minas is still waiting for the sponsors money, something like that. Of course she`s a trouble maker, but if everything was finalized , in her contract would be a date saying the exactly day she would have to arrive, and that is not the case, That`s why she`s not there, otherwise she would be breaking her contract rules. He said she probably will only play in December or so. And Minas wants to sign Jaqueline also.

    Anyways all this is according to Bruno Voluch.

  • Hooker is arriving today... I hope she starts playing ASAP, because Minas has been awful in the league...if only Jaque also signed, but of course she is having her drama queen moment.

  • Thanks Saishuu for posting the results and schedule. On the transfer page it has a picture of Hooker, and baby, with her holding a Minas flag. Maybe she is on her way. I don't really care.

    A number of players have left Brazil to play overseas, does this dilute the high level of play in Brazil? I would have to liked to see Hooker player against Thasia, Fe, and even Natalie.

    I know no one like the point system in Brazil, but in away I think its a good way to spread the wealth to all the teams. Not like in Turkey were 2 teams are stacked and other teams really don't have a chance to compete for a championship.

  • The level of Brazilian League is still really strong even without Thaiza, Natalia etc. To become a athlete In Brazil is not easy like in the US where there`s more than 1 thousand colleges with women`s volleyball program, but the few clubs they have do a really good job raising/training the youth players. And a lot of the Brazilians could play abroad if they wanted to, but of course playing at home is first option, and the high level of the league...... and Thaiza, Natalia etc only went play overseas because of $$$$$$, otherwise they would just stay.

    Alix Kilneman from Praia Clube, said she decided to stay one more season in Brazil because there`s no place to play volleyball like in Brazil.

    People in Brazil don`t like the point system, but is the only way to keep teams balanced. They have same thing in the NBA, but is salary cap, all the teams can pay a certain amount of money only, this don't allow the biggest team to hire a bunch of the best players and the best players gets spread out. Only problem in Brazil is that besides Osaco/Rio nobody has money to afford players like Thaiza/Natalia for example :S . But still they need to keep the point system.

  • i cant follow Brazilian league..but since when has any other team got the league title except for Rio and Osasco ?

    In the season 2001/2002, Minas won the title;
    In 02/03 and 03/04 season, the final was between Osasco & Minas, Osasco winning both;
    Until the 2013/2014 season, all the finals were being Rio vs. Osasco, but SESI defeated Osasco in the semifinal and made the final against Rio, who won another title;
    In the 2015/2016 season, Osasco was defeated by Rio in the semifinals and Praia Clube defeated Minas in the semis, the final was between Rio and Praia Clube, with Rio winning another title and Osasco getting off the podium (Minas was in third place).

    thanks for the answer

    i mean Ossaco and Rio have been dominating the league like some certain teams dominating its leagues in somee other leagues..

  • Yes, but there is a certain expectation, especially this season. I hope Destinee Hooker and Jaqueline can contribute a lot with Minas when they start playing. Osasco lost Thaísa and Adenízia, Rio lost Natalia, Buijs has not gone very well so far. Maybe a 'MINEIRA' final between Praia Clube and Minas, but everything depends on the semifinal crosses. I think in the Copa Brasil we will have some answers.

  • I think Buijs has done very well so far. She was even MVP in the last game. And Rio is not about only one player, they always play as a team, and thats why they win.
    And this Rio team played together all last season, they have a chemistry, Anne joined the team late and did a really good job adapting to the team.

    Buijs only did not play well basically at some moments during the Club Championship. But of course she is just not "Natalia".

    Malesevic started really well, but lately she seams to have one good and one bad match and so on...

    She was the MVP just because the vote is open to the public. At the end of the game when she won the trophy she handed it to setter Roberta, acknowledging that it was not a good match for her. In fact Buijs has often been replaced by Drussyla, in my opinion a way for the coach to prepare her for next season. And yes, the differential of Rio is to play as a team, and not with individual players.

  • I have heard only good things from Buijs so far here in Rio. One of the staff members from the team knows a friend of mine, and he said they are very impressed of how strong she is in the trainings, that she is still feeling a bit the training system here, cause she arrived late in the season, so phisically is more demanding....but that she is doing really well, and that they think she will develop and improve a lot still.
