    Nebraska 3-0 Florida
    Wisconsin 3-1 Hawaii

Southern California has already lost twice in their home tournament this weekend. Stanford lost to San Diego in their opener.

  • Anna Newsome (ESP, 1997), last season in Neruda Bolzano A1 is a new member of San Diego, which beat Stanford last night. :super:

It looks like San Diego runs a 6-2 offense. She is playing as a setter and led the team in assists against Stanford. Only played in 2 sets against Minnesota with 9 assists.

  • Nebraska destroyed Texas 3-0 (15,16,21) to be the Number 1 team in the new AVCA poll today.

Southern Cal finished 0-3 for the weekend. Not a good way for the Trojans to start the season, just like last year.

North Carolina upset Penn State in Penn State's gym 3-2.
Ohio State beat Texas A&M 3-2.
Hawaii dropped their second match to Kansas State before beating Arizona to finish the weekend at 1-2.
Illinois lost to Missouri State 3-2 in Illinois' tournament.

The out of conference schedule has ended and now the Conference schedules have started.
Nebraska still has a month to go before facing Wisconsin and Minnesota in Lincoln on one weekend
Last night Washington was upset by Washington State in their first Pac-12 match. First win in Seattle since 2001 for Washington State.
UCLA took care of crosstown rival Southern California 3-1.
Colorado also lost to Utah, so there will be some changes in the Pac-12 teams in the Top 25 next week.
Texas, Kansas and Kansas State all won their first matches in the Big XII.

Milica Kubura of Serbia who plays for Florida State was named ACC player of the week for last week.

  • New AVCA Poll for September 3rd is out

Big Ten: 9 (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Michigan State, Michigan, Illinois)
Pac-12: 7 (Stanford, Washington, Washington State, UCLA, Colorado, Oregon, Southern California)
Big XII (Twelve): 2 (Texas, Kansas)

Southeastern Conference (SEC): 2 (Florida, Kentucky)
West Coast Conference (WCC): 2 (San Diego, BYU)
    Big West: 1 (Hawaii)
    Conference USA: 1 (Western Kentucky)

Minnesota takes the top spot after Nebraska's loss to Ohio State
Washington State has beat Stanford, Washington and UCLA already in the Pac-12 and a big move up the rankings in the last two weeks. It makes no sense for them to be below Stanford and Washington in the ranking. This is a coach's poll, so maybe they are not paying attention to which teams they've beaten.

Next week will be the midway point in the season, but a big match between Minnesota and Penn State tonight.

  • AVCA Poll for October 10th

Big Ten: 9 (Wisconsin, Nebraska, Minnesota, Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan State, Michigan, Purdue, Illinois)
Pac-12: 6 (Washington, Stanford, Washington State, Oregon, UCLA, Utah)

Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC): 2 (North Carolina, Florida State)
Southeastern Conference (SEC): 2 (Florida, Kentucky)
West Coast Conference (WCC): 2 (San Diego, BYU)
    Big West: 1 (Hawaii)
    Conference USA: 1 (Western Kentucky)

Wednesday night, Wisconsin will play Minnesota

  • Penn State wins in 5.
Hayley Hodson who has trained with the USA NT and was FPOY, is leaving Stanford so she can recover from unknown injuries/health reason.

Seems like she is dealing with depression, she posted in her instagram. I hope she gets well soon. :(

  • The Regular Season Finished last night and this evening they will announce the field of 64 teams (32 conference champions, 32 at-large teams)

One odd thing this year is that the 4 regions (block of 16 teams) will not have a destination until the end of the second round. The highest seed remaining teams in each region (block of 16 teams) will be the host for the 3rd and 4th round matches. Columbus, Ohio will host the Final 4 semifinals and final.
