Also apparently YANG Hyo-Jin is playing with a shoulder injury, I think the article said that she pick up the injury toward the end of the Rio Olympic and felt the pain more during KOVO Cup. Well that explain why she hasn't score as many points as she did last season. Source: 1

  • GS Caltex (and former Korea Women's Volleyball National Team) Head Coach LEE Sun-Goo (LSG) has resigned from the head coach position. From what I can gather from the multiple articles about the resignation is that LSG felt responsible for the team poor performance and voluntarily resigned. GS Caltex management have decided to respect LSG decision and will appoint a new head coach as soon as possible.

Happy to see Bergsma put up some big numbers and her team starting to win some matches.

Which teams in the league have the strongest contingent of Korean players? With the new draft system I feel like the foreigners are not as important.

I kind of disagree about the foreign players, all of them are still very important to all the teams especially with regards in the offensive department. Some teams (e.g. KGC, GS, Heungkuk) rely on their foreign players much more than others.

IBK Altos is by far the strongest team, most of its starting 6 + 1 players are NT members.

Hyundai E&C Hillstate is the only real opponent.

The other teams have all 1/2 good korean players or NT.

If we are only talking about only the Korean players then I guess I would agree that IBK & Hyundai would be top two teams in the league. IBK have 5 and Hyundai have 6 former or current NT members in their team, but I think both GS Caltex & Hi-pass have the most with 7.

  • It's pretty hard to me remember all the asian names and link them to the players' faces, so I may be wrong. In the last OGs half of the team was from IBK Altos and Hyundai E&C Hillstate.

Kim Hee-jin, Park Jeong-ah and Nam Jie-youn are from IBK Altos.

Yang Hyo-jin, Hwang Youn-joo and Yeum Hye-seon Hyundai E&C Hillstate.

There are 6 players left, and KYK plays in Turkey, so there are about 1 or 2 players from each team left.

  • I think I already mentioned about Madison Kingdon (aka Rishel) before the season started and she's as expected doing an excellent job. She's not very tall but she knows how to hit the ball in different directions and she has the power to make it go through the blocks. I'm pretty sure the Korean blockers wouldn't like blocking her powerful spikes. Her passing has been quite smooth as well which is rare for foreign players playing in Korea or Japan. I watched a few games of her team and every time she tried to cover her teammate up (#10, the poor receiver).

Same word should be given to Emily Hartong who's currently spending her 2nd season in South Korea. She has become a lot stronger in attack. She jumps higher and her arm swings have gotten way faster. Reception is one of her strengths too but I hope she improves her serve.

A huge applause to both Alaina Bergsma and Tabi Love, despite the pressure of scoring as team leaders they have been doing a great job. Bergsma is a very energetic and enthusiastic player, I'm sure her positive energy means a lot to her teammates.

Looking at the stats and everything, It's going to be super hard to stop IBK this year.

what is the reason why heungkuk became so weak? i mean i can understand that when kyk left they will be weaker but then a less than 50% winning percentage?

Not sure what you are talking about, but Heungkuk have a 7 wins & 3 losses record (the same with league leader IBK Altos) and is currently 2nd in the standing with 20 points.

  • what i meant to say was when kim yeon koung was there heungkuk won 3 championships in 4 years but from 2010-2016 the team only made the playoffs 2 out of 7 times on the other hand teams such as hyundai made the playoffs 6 out of 7 times (including 2 championships) and ibk had 4 straight finals appearances (2 championships also)

that is the question why did ibk and hyundai dominate the league so much while heungkuk struggled?

that is the question why did ibk and hyundai dominate the league so much while heungkuk struggled?

Since I didn't started to watch volleyball yet at the time, I'm not sure why Heungkuk form dropped like that after KYK left. Maybe someone else out there could explain as to the reason/s why Heungkuk struggled after KYK left the team. But their recent improvement started in 2014 when they got the 1st pick in 2014 draft to select LEE Jae-Yeong, the recruitment of MB KIM Su-Ji from Hyundai, and the appointment of the new coach PARK Mi-Hee.

With IBK, the reasons I think for their dominance of the Korean V-League in recent years are because of their two key players KIM Hee-Jin and PARK Jeong-Ah (player with bad reception according to Emil  ). IBK were lucky to get both players from the draft before their first year in the league as they were allowed to select 10 players. Both players have decent mobility around court, but most importantly they have power and height advantages (KIM at 1.85m and PARK at 1.87m) over other Korean players (other Korean OH/s or OPP/s are about approx. 1.75-1.84m). IBK have both side of the net covered with KIM on the right as OPP and PARK on the left as OH, or you can have them play in the centre as MB. Add in a good foreign player and experienced setter like LEE Hyo-Hee and KIM Sa-Nee you got a strong core of players to build your team around.

Hyundai are not as strong as IBK but led by their MB YANG Hyo-Jin and KIM Se-Young, they are the strongest blocking team in the league. Hyundai however lack a second good OH to compliment Emily HARTONG and HWANG Youn-Joo. Last season and this season too, Hyundai have play with either JUNG Mi-Sun or HAN Yoo-Mi as the second OH. JUNG defence maybe good but her attack a little lacking on the other HAN's attack is slightly better than JUNG but her reception is bad. Whilst Hyundai are one of the stronger team in attack they are also one of the worst team when committing errors.

  • GS Caltex Seoul KIXX have appointed CHA Sang-Hyun current coach of Sehwa Girl's High School, Seoul as their new head coach. • Hey guys here is channel https://www.youtube.com/user/C…NSHIK/videos?spfreload=10 with some recent matches.

okay who do you think has the biggest potential to be the next kim yeon koung in korea?

Personally I don't think there is anyone with the potential to be KIM Yeon Koung in the V-League. However I think Heungkuk LEE Jae-Yeong is the closest player to KYK in term of all round abilities. She doing a good job in attacks, digs, and receptions this season but sadly Jae-Yeong will never be as good as KYK simply because of her height.

    (Image Cr: Korea News Systems)

The Korean's media however are hoping 15 years old middle school student JUNG Ho-Young will be the next KYK. JUNG Ho-Young already stand at 1.89m tall (approx 6' 2'') with spike height of 310cm equalling that of KYK. Here are two english articles about JUNG Ho-Young: 1, 2.
