I'm honestly still surprised that Madi Kingdon keeps playing in the Korean league, I bet she had got a plenty of attractive offers from many other clubs during the summer, considering the fact that most clubs desperately need someone who can pass and hit on a great level, like her. The good thing is she hasn't been given as insanely many balls as the other Americans, Diouck and Nesovic.

It's always negatively formidable how many balls the foreigner of each team has to hit each match, look at Bergsma and Simpson

Madison and Alaina renew their contract pretty early around early May 2017 (pretty much right after last season finished) because the foreign players draft was held in May. Maybe the money they are getting in Korea is better than what they could earn in other leagues but I can't say for sure. If the draft was held later then Madi and Alaina might be playing elsewhere.

Yeah, the number of hits is crazy. Mostly because the lower standard of the local spikers but also partly because Asian volleyball tends to dig and recycle the ball are lot more than other leagues. Madi one of the lucky ones, she doesn't have to hit as many balls like Alaina and Taylor. Surprisingly at the moment, Diouck is 2nd when it comes to the least number of hits per set. Once the round is completed I will gather the numbers, most likely toward the end of the week. Are there any particular stats you guys want to see for the foreign player from Round 1, like how many of their spikes blocked, backcourt attack strike rate or the number of hitting errors?

what is going on with Heungkuk? although its still early.. Jaeyeong!!

Heungkuk this season is a shade of the team last season. The lost of Kim Su-Ji to IBK is really hurting Heungkuk this season. She was the 3rd highest point scorers on the team last season with an average of 10.34 points per game. Not only is her blocking and scoring abilities sorely missed by Heungkuk but they also lost a player who can draw the attention of the opponent blockers away from the OHs and OPP.

Kim Su-Ji replacement Jeong Si-Young (originally an OP) who is playing her first season in the MB position is doing an okay job so far. Jeong Si-Yong has managed to score 37 points from six matches including 13 block kills (0.54 per set). But Heungkuk other main MB from last season, Kim Na-Hee (nee Kim Hye-Jin) is not playing well this season. She has only scored 15 points from 4 games including 2 block kills (0.15 per set) and a spike success rate of 26.83%. Even Cho Song-Hwa, Heungkuk's setter and the rookie Kim Chae-Yeon have more individual block kills then Kim Na-hee.

Kim Hae-Ran who joined Heungkuk this season to strengthen the defence is doing great with the digs but her currrent reception success rate of 33.77% so far is not as good as compares to her 52.45% at the end of Round 1 last season and/or 49.60% for the entire 2016-17 regular season. After six matches she already has 10 failures in reception, which is more than half or the 18 failures she had for the entire 2016-17 regular season. If she continues like this it might be best to make more uses of Han Ji-Hyun (last season starting libero) or Nam Jie-Youn (IBK 2016-27 starting libero) by getting one of them to take up the libero position when they are receiving serves. Lee Jae-Yeong with reception success rate of 43.10 is the only one doing a decent job while Shin Yeon-Gyeong is doing poorly with a reception success rate of 23.64%.

From some reports, due to a knee injury at of the season, Lee Jae-Yeong was unable to train for most of the off-season. She was mainly focused on rehabilitation training at home and barely started training with her team before getting a call up for NT duties for WGCC and Asian WCQ. Lee Jae-Yeong first few games were definitely poor and some reports mention her sluggish attack at the start of the season is due to a back injury. The good news is she is slowly improving, especially with the last two matches where her strike rate was 38.46% and 42.42%.

Beside Heungkuk weakness in the blocking department and drop in the reception, their other problem is they don't have anyone else besides Taylor and Jae-Yeong who can score double-digit points or close to it each game like Kim Su-Ji did for them last season. If Lee Jae-Yeong doesn't recover quickly or another player doesn't contribute more significantly to the attack, then the burden of Heungkuk attack will fall on Taylor. The other teams will just focus their defence on Taylor and I wouldn't be surprised if she suffers another injury due to an increase in workload.

honestly I feel heungkuk will make a comeback, I'm not liking the formation with jaeyeong and Taylor being lined up, but the MBs are doing their job. the new player is gradually doing well, i forgot that kim nahee didn't play sometimes. I believe Jaeyeong will make a comeback. Heungkuk will make a comeback.

Heungkuk's fans I've got good news and I've got bad news. Which do you want to read about first?

Good news first:

The good news is Heungkuk beat GS Caltex 3-0.

And the bad news is that Talyor suffered an ankle injury in the first set.

Taylor being out is gonna be a big gap, jaeyeong will have to be over work but she's aiming for MVP again so she will be okay. I hope during the time Taylor is out, they utilize their domestic players more and spread the hits. I wanted to watch the game, but this different time zone thing didn't allow me to do so because i work this morning.... sadly all I can do is watch reruns. But it was a much needed win

Match MVP: LEE Jae-Yeong (Heungkuk) www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjAP_lyqi-U, sports.news.naver.com/volleyball/...&id=369783&redirect=true

- Heungkuk became the 1st team to achieved 18,000 successful sets with 47 from the match (currently with 18,004 successful sets).
- Heungkuk JEONG Si-Young (84th) achieved 500 successful digs with 4 from the match (currently with 503 successful digs).

- I feel like I put a jinx on Taylor in my post earlier yesterday. From the footage, Taylor SIMPSON's injury doesn't look like an ankle injury, it looks more likely to be an injury on the right side of her waist/hip. An earlier report stated it was an ankle injury but later another report mention hip injury. Depending on the recovering time required for the injury, Heungkuk might decide to replace Taylor with another player.

- Also, prior to the match, GS Caltex announced that their rookie HAN Su-Jin suffered a hamstring injury from their previous match with Hyundai E&C and will be out for 4 weeks.

Hyundai E&C Hillstate 3 - 1 Korea Expressway Corp. Hi-pass ( 25 - 21, 21 - 25, 25 - 13, 25 - 17 ) stats post match summary

Hyundai E&C:

KEC Hi-pass:
17. Ivana NESOVIC 17pts (17s/42, 5d, 2e), 9. PARK Jeong-Ah 14pts (12s/39, 2b, 7d, 7e), 10. BAE Yoo-Na 12pts (10s/15, 1a, 1b, 3d, 1e), 13. JUNG Dae-Young 8pts (7s/15, 1b, 1d, 2e), 4. JEON Sae-Yan 3pts (3s/6, 2d, 1e), 11. JEONG Sun-Ah 3pts (2s/3, 1a, 1e), 12. MOON Jung-Won 2pts (2s/4, 7d, 1e), 7. CHOI Eun-Ji 1pts (1s/4, 2d, 1e), 18. YOO Seo-Yeun 0pts (1d), 3. LEE So-La 0pts, 19. LEE Won-Jeong 0pts, 5. LEE Hyo-Hee 0pts (9d, 1e), 8. YIM Myung-Ok [Li] 0pts (16d). Total Points: 76, Score Points: 60, Attack: 54 (from 128 at 42.19%), Ace: 2, Block: 4, Dig: 53, Error: 17.

Match MVP: YANG Hyo-Jin (Hyundai E&C) www.youtube.com/watch?v=4w98JgW3Q4E, sports.news.naver.com/volleyball/...&id=370191&redirect=true

- Hyundai E&C became the 2nd team to achieved 1,700 successful service ace points with 9 aces from the match (currently with 1,707 successful service ace points).
- Hyundai E&C YANG Hyo-Jin (1st player) achieved 950 successful block points with 7 from the match (currently on 950 successful block points).

- YANG Hyo-Jin was doing everything in this match, I haven't seen her play this well since the 2014-15 season. With 4 aces and 7 blocks, its a shame that Hyo-Jin can't spike from the backcourt otherwise she might have possibly gotten herself a triple crown. Along with Hyo-jin, LEE Da-Yeong went blocks crazy too in this match. For a setter, LEE Da-Yeong is definitely the best blocker in the league (currently 5th in blocking). Also, Da-Yeong's distribution of the ball in the match was very good, everyone got roughly the same number of sets. As for work rate wise, this was definitely the easiest match for Elizabeth as she only had to spike the ball 27 times. Hyundai servicing was on point too. Hyo-Jin and Elizabeth simply battered Hi-pass receptions, with MOON Jung-Won suffering the brunt of it.

Match MVP: Alaina BERGSMA (KGC Ginseng) www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5iS-GACe7o, sports.news.naver.com/volleyball/...&id=370379&redirect=true

- It has been reported by News1 Korea that Taylor SIMPSON was diagnosis with "acetabular rupture of the hip" and was advised to rest for at least a month. Heungkuk only have 2 more matches for this round and month, one home game against Hyundai on 19th and one away game against IBK on 25th. If Taylor managed to recover as scheduled, at best she might only miss a total of 3~6 more matches (1 away game on Dec 2 - vs. IBK, and 3 home games on Dec 10 vs. KGC, Dec 14 vs. Hyundai, and Dec 17 vs. Hi-pass).

Both options to play without Taylor or find a replacement for her are both difficult for Heungkuk. The former is difficult because they can't afford to drop more points and let the leading teams get further ahead. The latter option is also difficult as most players are already with other teams and Heungkuk are only allowed to replace Taylor with another player from the tryout (not entirely sure with this rule). On one article, some fans have even suggested getting Haley Spelman who play for KGC in 2014-15 and is now currently playing in France for ASPTT Mulhouse. Even if Heungkuk recruited another player to replace Taylor, they will have to fork out money for the transfer fee and who knows if the other club would want to release the player either. So according to the articles Heungkuk position is to wait and see how Taylor is recovering.

- I haven't watched the match yet but it doesn't look like it was a great match for either LEE Jae-Yeong or Heungkuk. Unfortunately, Jae-Yeong did not play as well as she did in her previous match as she was only spiking with a success rate of 25.92% and had 5 hitting errors in this match. Beside doing very little damage with their spiking, servicing and blocking in this match, according to the stats Heungkuk receptions and errors also hurting them. Heungkuk reception was only 27.14% efficiency ( = (27 excellent receptions - 8 failure receptions) / 70 attempts) ) and they committed 20 errors versus KGC 9 errors.
