XV Pan American Games - RIO DE JANEIRO/ BRAZIL

  • Here will post the news about the competion of volleyball. noe a little history about the bigger tournaument of the america.

The Pan American Games are a continental version of the Olympic Games, which includes both Olympic sports and other disciplines suggested by the competition organization and approved by PASO. Held every four years, always one year before the Summer Olympic Games, the first Pan American Games were held in 1951 in Buenos Aires, the capital city of Argentina. However, the origin of the Pan American Games dates as far back as 1932, during the Los Angeles Olympic Games.

Inspired by the first Central American Games, which had been held six years before, representatives of Latin American member countries of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) proposed the establishment of a competition that would bring together all the countries in the Americas and encourage sport in the region.

The idea resulted in the First Pan American Sports Congress, held Buenos Aires in 1940. Initially the Congress decided that the inaugural Games would happen in 1942, in the capital of Argentina. The plan, however, had to be postponed because of World War II.

After the War, a second Pan American Congress convened in London, during the 1948 Olympic Games, and confirmed Buenos Aires as the host city of the first Pan American Games, scheduled for 1951. The competition started on February 25th and brought together 2,513 athletes from 21 countries, competing in 18 sport disciplines.

Over more than 50 years, the Pan American Games have been held continuously and were taken to numerous cities in all areas of the American continent: From as far North as Winnipeg (Canada), host of two Pan American Games, in 1967 and 1999, to the extreme South, in Mar Del Plata (Argentina), which hosted the Games in 1995. The competition also took place in Mexico City (Mexico), Chicago (United States), Cáli (Colombia), San Juan (Puerto Rico), Caracas (Venezuela), Indianapolis (United States), Havana (Cuba), Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic) and São Paulo (Brazil).

The Games were first staged in Brazil in the fourth edition, in 1963, held in the capital of São Paulo state. The event was a huge success and attracted 40,000 people to the Opening Ceremony, in Pacaembu Stadium.

Gradually, the Pan American Games gained importance and significance. In less than a century the number of countries, athletes and disciplines has doubled, and the Pan American Games have become one of the leading competitions in the international sport calendar.

  • Olympic champions Ricardo and Emanuel guaranteed on Thursday, June 14th, the men’s slot for Brazil in the beach volleyball tournament for the XV Pan American Games Rio 2007.
In order to qualify to RIO 2007, the Athens 2004 gold-medal doubles needed to win the two first matches in the Portuguese stage of the World Circuit in the city of Espinho. And the victories came in: 2-0 over hosts Teixeira and Azenha (sets in 21-12 and 21-17) and 2-0 over Canadians Heese and Cadieux (21-18 and 21-13). With the victories, Emanuel and Ricardo cannot be followed by Márcio and Fábio Luiz.

In the women’s competition, world champions Juliana and Larissa will represent Brazil. The Games’ beach volleyball tournament will be staged between July 16th and July 22nd in Copacabana Beach.

  • For Rio 2007 Relay, five hundred torches are being built. The form follows the same principle of the medals: to combine traditional Olympic concepts with the innovating spirit and modernity, Rio 2007 characteristics.

Once again the union between two materials, acrylic and metal, was observed. These materials represent concepts such as diversity, integration and union around the same objective. The non-static geometric shapes represent modernity. The project also considered the shape, extended and comfortable of the torch, in order to facilitate its handling by the person who will carry it.

  • The current Pan American champion, the dominican Republic women's team comes to RIO 2007 with confidence that it will return to the podium. Alexis García, president of the country's volleyball federation in the country, reveals that another medal is expected after the last matches against Canada, Cuba and the United States, which were won by the Dominicans.

"The difference is that this team will come in better prepared, physically, technically, and psychologically. We had a meeting and all players guaranteed that they will come together body and soul. In Cartagena (in the Central American and Caribbean Games) we defeated Cuba 3-0; in the Grand Prix, we beat the United States; and it has been a long time since we last lost to Canada," said García to "Diário Libre" newspaper.

The official minimizes the departure of Juana Gonzáles, the only casualty in the team in comparison to the gold medal team from four years ago, who will be replaced substituted by Karla Schenike.

"We want to sho the world that no one is irreplaceable, that someone may be important at one time, but not irreplaceable."

  • today, the federation of the italy volei say that the player was pick up in antidoping. this substanci was sibutamina, to weight loss. jaqueline is very, very bad. is the secound time that her is cut off the panamerican games. in 2003, she was injury.

the new play to postion is regiane

  • It was sad that Jaqueline was caught on dopping now, but it would be worse if it happened near the World Cup. She said it was a tea that she took to lose weight, and the doctors of the NT said that the substante (sibutamine) doesn't affect the performance of an athlete... so probably it confirms Jaqueline's version.
But anyway, she's out the NT, and he called a new player to fill the team. In her position, Zé Roberto has doubts between Sassá and Érika.

to loose weight? uff she is thin enough lol.... women and their weight, such a long story
anyway, i would be happy if Ze Roberto chose Erika

  • I am astonished with the news about Jaque. She was among the starting six and I really liked her performance against Serbia in the friendly matches she played in the end of June.

What is weird is that Sibutramine is, among the medicines to lose weight, the substance with less side effects and it doesn't cause psychologic dependance. Jaqueline's case reminds me of what happened to Zetti, the goalkeeper of the football National Team, during a match in Bolivia, he drank a tea made with the coca leaf and was caught in the antidoping test.

I am optimistic about the fact that Jaqueline's punition will be short. When Giba was caught for having used marijuana, the punition imposed by WADA or the Italian League didn't prevent him from playing for the National Team. As Jaque's doping was accidental, I hope the WADA members be fair with her.

Good Luck, Jaque! You rock, girl!

  • USA beat 3-0 Costa Rica

The USA team beat Costa Rica 3-0 (25-9/25-19/25-13) on Pan-American Games 2007 on Rio.

  • Brazil beat Peru in straight sets

    Brazil 3 - 0 Peru (25-15, 25-19, 25-12)

Carol Albuquerque and Sheilla replaced both Mari and Fofão in the middle of the second set and they played better than Mari and Fofão.

Fofão was't very precise in setting up the plays in the 1st match against Peru. Carol, in my opinion, played better than her.

In the second set Brazil was losing and only after this substitution Brazil started to lead the score.
