2012 Junior Volleyball European Championship - Ankara/Turkey

  • I was curious about Geerties performance indeed, I hope she can make it for Final tournament. BTW what is Lisa IZQUIERDO's root? Doesn't sound like a German sirname.

Her father is from Cuba, but he is in Germany since more than 25 years. He came to East Germany as worker when it was still socialist and stayed there forever.

Actually there are several German players with Cuban roots: Kathy Radzuweit has a Cuban father too, and Ana Capote from 92/93 JNT is the daughter of former Cuban NT player from the 80s Josefina Capote who lives in Germany now. Unfortunately, Ana had to stop playing after two consecutive serious injuries :( She was a promising player...

    Thanks! :drink:

  • Grupa A: SRB, TUR, SVK, SLO, BEL, FRA

Grupa B: ITA, CZE, POL, RUS, GER, BUL.

What the strong group has Host :rolll: But it is normal for Host.

  • Well you shouldn't look at the names of teams since you probably have no idea about the strength of teams like Russia or Bulgaria from Group B coz they didn't even play in any of Youth tournaments previous year whereas Slovakia had a quite good team at last youth ECH.

2010/2011 Eczacıbaşı VitrA - Turkish Cup Winner :cup:
2011/2012 Eczacıbaşı VitrA - Super Cup Winner :cup:

  • It doesn't matter.
Since Turkey had Algeria and Egypt/Kenya in WCH Group that means that Host always has easier. In the part, now and in future. It won't change.
As you said about Russia and Bulgaria- Noone knows Their power so it is logic, that better to haven't Them in group than have.

    EDIT:

In Russian Roster will play the best Players from the Youth League with 4-5 Players from Uralochka Youth.

  • Yes Turkey had an easy group in WCH but it doesn't matter they also beated biggest favourites of WCH like China & Serbia too in next rounds so their success is not luck since they have talented players in all positions and also playing in 1st division. If Russia is strong enough they will not have problems to advance SFs since the strongest teams are in Group A and Italy is without C. Bosetti.

What doesn't change that Host always has easier Group.

Don't say who was beat or not because We both know that in Turkey Turkey hasn't chance to lose the match- interactive courts line etc.

Turkey has power but in bad shape Someone else helps You.

  • Just a question guys, in European Junior competition it is 18 years and younger right? but in World Junior Champ. (like last year) it was for 19 years old and younger....anyone knows why?

Oh Bartek :D You are talking about the team that won both ECH and WCH. You can't win any tournament with the helps of the referees. You may win the set but not the whole tournament.Yes, Turkey had an easier group in first round in WCH but in second round there was China. In ECH we were in the same group with Serbia who got bronze medal(they were beaten by Turkey in semifinal  ).So no way Bartek! I won't let you make theoris about our golden generation

Oh Sorrel I wrote that Turkey has power but You know 24-24 in set and good witch for sure help Host Turkey :D

  • Bartek
I can't wait to seeing that moment

    @Anton
As far as I know the WCH for this generation will be played next year so the players will be 19 or younger whereas this year it will be 18 and younger in ECH. I may be wrong. I don't know it exactly. Just my opinion.

  • Russia has a team with 4 players from Dinamo Moscow and 4 players from Dinamo Kazan (youth teams), I think its a bit more promising team than the previous ones, but it might be tough to take a medal anyway...we will see. Most promising players seems to be esp. Kseniia Ilchenko and Ekaterina Makarchuk in Russian squad, will also be intresting to see 202 cm tall OPP Daria Malygina, if she will play.

I see, it makes sense indeed.

  • @Anton

Each generation includes two age groups current Juniors are 1994(18) & 1995(17) (Most of them are 94) and youths are 1996&1997.Previous juniors were also 18 (1992&1993)

EDIT: Kadir is right guess :D

interactive courts line :rolll: :rolll: , sure that Turkey has easier group that we will see what will happen in the semifinal

The age of competitors depends on the date of competition. Only criteria is the generation, I mean it is always 1992-1993 and after or 1994-1995 and after. In this regard for this year's European Championship oldest players could be from 1994.

  • It is so stupid to make such conspiracy theories about that successful team :cursing: 'easy pool for host' rule may be valid for Poland or Japan but not for Turkey. Especially not for this tournament! Obviously you don't have any idea about strength of teams and just talking by looking at 'names'. So in order to enlighten you:

Serbia is the biggest candidate for title with Turkey since Italy is weak without Bosetti and Germany misses two crucial players.
Slovakia was 6th in youth European Championship and they finished in better ranking than Italy in World Championship. As you see, 1st, 2nd and 6th best teams are in one group whereas 3rd, 4th and 5th ones in other group, which is very fair. Indeed according to normal serpentine rule we must be in same group with Czech Republic and Serbia-Italy in same group since, actual ranking based on that :

    1-Turkey (Host)
2-Italy (Last champion of Junior European Championship)
    3-Serbia (Finalist)
    4-Czech Republic (Bronze medalist)

If there was a DOL in favor of host it must be 1-4 and 2-3 in same group

Moreover, due to being host, one can somehow reach to quarterfinals or even semifinals but never become champion in both tournament! Especially your argument for draw in world championship is also nonsense because in first round, we played with POLAND (4th best team) then in second round we were in the same group with China (silver medalist) and Germany (5th best team). In semifinal we beat Serbia (bronze medalist) and China in final. Thus, Turkey become champion by beating best 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th teams of tournament, which makes their championship very legitimate 8) In European Championship also we didn't get any 'easy pool for host' case by playing with Serbia and Poland in the same group

The only criticism could be about the fact that we reach this two gold medal in front of our crowd, so they need to prove themselves without being host. (Turkey is not host of junior world championship so we would finally see them playing in different country)

  • German roster for ECH:

    S: Magdalena Gryka, Michaela Wessely
MB: Juliane Langgemach, Selma Hettmann, Leonie Schwertmann
OH/Opp: Lisa Izquierdo, Nele Barber, Carina Aulenbrock, Alisha Ossowski, Louisa Lippmann, Lena Stigrot
    Libero: Lisa Stock

Jennifer Geerties had a surgery on her back and is still recovering. Melanie Keil isn't fit enough to play a whole ECH according to the coach.
Carina Aulenbrock is the only real Opp in the team, but in the qualification matches the team always played with her as non receiving OH and Lisa Izquierdo as receiving Opp. Last week, the team played 3 friendly matches against Italy and lost them 2:3, 1:3 and 0:3. Lisa Izquierdo was best German scorer in all matches.

  • I cannot see the name of other OH Besa as well, is she still recovering also? What do you think about the players who replace them injuried players?
