2014 FIVB World Championship - Italy - 9/23

  • Don't underestimate Kazakhstan, dude!

  • Don't underestimate Kazakhstan, dude!

I don't know very much about Kazakhstan volleyball. They have tall players but seems to me that China, Japan, South Korea and Thailand are the greatest teams. Nonetheless, if Kazakhstan could win these teams it will be great to watch Asian Championship.

  • where is iran or any other middle eastern countries? it's a shame they don't promote women's sports.

is NZ so strong they don't need to play the first round of qualifying?

Part of it is the regional breakout within AVC

    1. West Asia (12 countries) - 0 applied
    2. Central Asia (14 countries) - 3 applied, 1 seeded + 1
    3. Eastern Asia (8 countries) - 6 applied (5 with NK dropping), 3 seeded + 1
    4. South East Asia (10 countries) - 5 applied, 1 seeded + 1
    5. Oceania (19 countries) -2 applied, 2 seeded

My guess is that NZ and Australia were the only ones who applied from the Oceania region and with their ranking within the confederation possibly being higher they were seeded into the final round.

  • I think Asian Quota would be 5-6 teams. Kazak and Taiwan are the strong teams.

no only 4 teams form asia will qualify

  • Vietnam secure their berth for the Asian final qualification round for the 2014 World Championship to be held in September. Vietnam will join Japan, China, South Korea, Thailand, Kazakhstan, Australia, New Zealand and two more teams, one from the Central Zone and other from the Eastern Zones.
Vietnam is currently ranked 93 in the FIVB World Ranking.

  • Israel will be the host of the Women 2nd Quali Round. Apparently, this was decided by DOL, because nobody wanted to be host voluntarily. :|

  • Chinese Taipei (ranked 28th) and Hong Kong (112th) are the last two teams to qualify for the 2014 FIVB World Women's Volleyball Championship Qualification Asian Zone to take place in Japan and China in September.

    The participating teams
    Australia
    China
    Chinese Taipei
    India
    Japan
    Kazakhstan
    New Zealand
    South Korea
    Thailand
    Vietnam

There's no schedule and drawing of lots yet, but I expect one team (South Korea or Thailand) in China and the other in Japan. I don't think AVC will set South Korea and Thailand at the same pool. It means to eliminate a good team. Let's see!

  • Based on current world ranking the DOL will look like this:

    Group A: Japan ( 4 - 8 September 2013)

    Japan (3)
    Thailand (12)
    Ch.Taipei (28 )
    Vietnam (93)
    Australia (103)

    Group B: China (3 - 12 September 2013)

    China (5)
    South Korea (11)
    Kazakhstan (30)
    New Zealand (71)
    India (103)

  • Time to get this one alive and kicking. :)

Some teams will compete with B selections in these qualifications?

  • I though the Asian Championship that would could for the 2014 World Championship qualifier?

so the Asian Championship will qualify only for the World Grand Champions at the end of the year? That is it?

  • You are thinking about the South American championships as the World Championships Qualifier.

The winner of the Asian Championships goes to the Grand Champions Cup. Japan of course is hosting.
