Germany - DVL 2011/12

  • Yes that's true, she is getting worse all the time, but still she has a lot of experience. Thomsen is very inconsistent, she can make great saves but also so simple mistakes and her reception is not as it should be for a libero. In terms of libero, Vilsbiburg with Lenka Dürr and I think also Münster with Linda Dörendahl have better players, also Evelyn Delogu from Stuttgart is a very good libero.

Dürr is indeed better; she is best German libero in my opinion. The other 2 I don't know well, but considering the system Münster plays succesfully, Dörendahl must :!: be a good libero :!:

  • Yup, I agree with most of what you say. But it's also true the other way round, if Schwerin can put Dresden so much under pressure with serves that Apitz has to use the OHs all the time, Schwerin certainly has an advantage

I think it will be a close match where the amount of serve pressure will determine the winner. Nice match for 2nd place in the DVL!

  • Schweriner SC - Dresdner SC 2-3 :!: :!: Congratulations to Dresdner SC :flower: :flower: :flower:

I predicted a victory for Schweriner SC, so :hit: myself

Schwerin 0/12 in attack in 5th set :white:

  • Schwerin 0/12 in attack in 5th set

Indeed. Never seen before. No single succesful attack in a whole set :white:

We will have to wait until the match is available on Sport in Schwerin, to see the whole story.

Acoording to stats: block- and service-point were almost equal. Dresdner had a higher % in reception and attack :win:

  • I did not know these statistics were available, but it's obvious that the last set was not the set of Schwerin. But I don't mind as supporter of DSC!

    Congratulations ^^ ^^ :flower: :flower:

Photos are already there, so I expect the video to come tomorrow :)

Pretty much all our predictions came true. Topic and Buijs weren't strong enough, on the other side Pietersen and Karg played a great match, but Dresden's OHs didn't contribute much in attack. Berit Kauffeldt plays extremely well for Schwerin this season, she plays now like Corina Ssuschke 4-5 years ago, I hope she'll develop further like this :)

Yes, I just saw the pictures already.

Yes, Kauffeldt plays a very good season so far. But what about Karg :white: She might be even better than Kauffeldt :teach: Did she never play for German NT?

Yes, in 2007 (I think) she was in NT camp some time and also played at least one friendly tournament in Italy. I think in the last years she concentrated on her studies or education and didn't want to come to NT but I'm not sure about her reasons, anyway she is definitely the strongest attacker of all German MBs in our league! Also because she can do all variations in attack...I hope she'll change her mind about NT!

Yes she is indeed! She attacks on position 3 (in front of the setter), so she has 3 optional directions (left, straight ahead and right). Kauffeldt, and also De Kruijf, attack almost only on position 2 (at the backside of the setter), which is harder to score and easier to block :teach:

That's the role of De Kruiff and Kauffeldt, they start next to the setter in starting line-up, so their job is to hit on 2 more often than for example Karg. But she is indeed a very good MB!

Ok, but do you agree it's more difficult to score at postion 2 (because you have only two optional directions) ?

  • Ok, but do you agree it's more difficult to score at postion 2 (because you have only two optional directions) ?

I don't agree, at least not generally ;) It depends on the set. In the middle, when the opponent MB jumps fully and the ball is close to the net, the middle attacker has almost no chance to pass against a good blocker. On position 2, the blocker often is in lateral movement so it's very difficult to position the block well, also there the attacker can let the ball fly past the block and look where she has to attack, in the middle there is no time for that usually. There are very few players who are really good at blocking slide attacks (for example Osmokrovic), it's a matter of experience and resisting the temptation to run outside together with the attacker instead of simply standing and jumping and block the cross-court, so the attacker is forced to attack longline and there is always the risk to attack out. Of course it all depends on the height of the attacker and the blocker, when there is a 1.95 MB and a 1.80 OH in the opponent team it is easier to attack from pos 2 for the MB, but when the MB has to attack against a 1.95 OH it is equally difficult.

By the way, video of SSC-DSC is up on http://sport.inschwerin.de now :)

I disagree like Matthias. With the ball in front of the setter you also have two options, because straight ahead is the blocker. And the set on position 2 usually has a 1-block and the ball with the ball on the middle the setter/opp or OH are trying to assist. But the ball on two with the middle is a typical set woman play. You can play it more often, even with a pass out of the net.
