RE: Tea ;-)

Oh, you don't have to apologize. I'm glad that you could take some well-deserved rest and had fun with the girls of Ipanema.

So how does the final roster look like? Should I amend something in my list? Let's bet that next year you finish first. Oh well sorry, second just behind Voléro ;-) I'm also looking forward meeting you.

Is Lindsey Davigeadono trying its luck in Switzerland?

IVB Professionals announce that Lindsey Davigeadono (USA) will try its luck in Switzerland, more accurately in Fribourg. At this point it’s becoming a little bit confusing to me because, if I’m right, VBC Fribourg has just been shifted off to 1st regional League. The 192 cm tall setter/OH has much probably the skills to progress at a higher level, meaning LNA or at least LNB. So it might be possible that’s she would rather join the great cantonal rival FKB TSV Volleyball Düdingen that plays in LNA. Lindsey Davigeadono participated in the IVB Tour in Switzerland that is giving American players at the junior and professional level exposure in playing overseas. Has anyone heard something about it?

Former UCR VBer Brittney Murrey to play professionally in Switzerland

July 19, 2010, RIVERSIDE – Former UC Riverside volleyballer Brittney Murrey has signed a contract to play professionally with Volley Köniz of the Swiss Volley League beginning in August. The Swiss Volley League is part of the Confédération Européenne de Volleyball, which is the governing body for professional volleyball in Europe and the originator of the European Champions League.

Murrey finished her Highlanders career ranked second on the program's all-time assist charts and third in assists per game. As a senior she earned All-Big West, Honorable Mention honors.

"Playing professional volleyball is something I always wanted to do," explained Murrey. "I love this game and it was sad to think that after college it could be the end of volleyball for me. I'm excited to visit a new place and travel to different countries, but the thing I am most excited to do is continue to play volleyball, experience different levels of competition with different girls, and learn how to run a whole different system as a setter.

"It will also be great to play alongside a friend of mine, Mindy Wiley, who played with my younger sister, Tarah, at UC Berkeley. When I thought about playing overseas right after my season ended at UC Riverside, I was a bit nervous at the thought of going off by myself to a country where they may not even speak English. I feel so blessed to be placed in a good situation, traveling with a friend to play in a beautiful country. I couldn't have asked for an easier transition into this new world of volleyball in a new country."

Wedding party Wahine

Date: 21.7.2010
Autor: Ann Miller

Saturday’s wedding of Cobey Shoji, Dave Shoji’s daughter, brought together a few former Rainbow Wahine.

Jennifer Carey (1999-2002), the director of volleyball operations for Cal, was a bridesmaid. Kari Gregory (2004-07) also was there. She was a high school classmate of the groom – former Stanford football graduate assistant Coleman Hutzler, now on Urban Meyer’s staff at Florida.

Diana (McInerny) McKibben (1978-79) and Lisa Strand-Maa (1981-84), who played on three of Dave Shoji’s national championship teams, were guests. So was Aven Lee (1996-2000), who went to Punahou with Cobey Shoji and is now in her second season as an assistant coach at Pacific.

Kari Gregory played professionally in Switzerland last season (Ed. VB Franches-Montagnes). Former Rainbow Tara Hittle is headed there next month to start her professional career.

Much ado about nothing

The leadoff team in Canton Fribourg, FKB TSV Volleyball Düdingen, has just made a bodacious announcement. The club would finally reveal its NLA team roster! The problem is that you will have to wait until the cows come home! An event will take place on… September 17 at a garage. Let’s imagine: girls and cars! I thought that these times were bygone long ago. It’s so tasteless! And why keep us waiting so long? Volleyball Düdingen will certainly not announce the arrival of the best player in the world. So, please give us the names!
