  • That’s at least what the Swiss Volley Guide lets suggest. Her name simply appears under Genève Volley, in the arrivals list. But Julia Larissa Kovtun mysteriously doesn’t appear in Geneva’s team roster. The Ukrainian setter, played last season in Greece for EA Larisa.

  • Oh bullshit!!!
Don’t tell me that VFM suddenly changed its mind. Obviously, the dictatorial regime has a shiny future. Today, one thing is sure, in the tiny little Swiss volleyball world, it’s not allowed to have a different point of view than the Federation and, obviously, some influential club managers. VFM finally signed the "voluntary" (some people should check what voluntary exactly means) gentlemen’s agreement that obliges the teams that signed it (voluntarily of course) to have permanently at least one Swiss player on the court (excepted libero). This is an intolerable interference in the club teams business.

Please be polite. If you don't agree with what I write, ok, no problem, explain your point of view. But you should not feel free to define my statement as bullshit.

Don’t worry. I was not talking about your statement. Only about VFM’s "mysterious" and "voluntary" change of mind.

  • That’s at least what the Swiss Volley Guide lets suggest. Her name simply appears under Genève Volley, in the arrivals list. But Julia Larissa Kovtun mysteriously doesn’t appear in Geneva’s team roster. The Ukrainian setter, that also got the Greek citizenship, has been playing several years in Greece, notably EA Larisa.

Genève Volley has been looking for a new setter for quite a time, so as to have a pair of setters for the championship. The club is actually signing today with Yuliia Kovtun, a 31-year old ukrainian setter who played last season in Larissa, Greece. The mention of double citizenship is incorrect. Swiss Volley blew the scoop by copying the transfer list in the "championship book" recently published. We hope she will quickly be able to play soon.

Furthermore, small complement about an old post : the club budget is CHF 250'000 of which 120'000 are for the LNA team.

    Thanks for your attention. :bump:

  • Well, at least I’m looking forward for the championship games that will be very disputed this season. Who do you think has the nicest venue in Switzerland?

Hard to say who has really the nicest venue in Switzerland. One thing is sure : as long as we can't have real volleyball halls specifically designed for our sport and all that we have are schools more or less adapted to our sport, we'll never progress seriously.

In my opinion, permanent and specific halls for volleyball are one of the major obstacles to the development of profesionnal volleyball in Switzerland. Woud you imagine a football without a big stadium ? :wall:

I totally agree with you. So I should have asked: "Which team plays in the nicest GYM?" And which would be the answer? Personally, I only know a few of them. For example, the Riveraine in Neuchâtel looks pretty good and is probably one of the most adapted to volleyball. On the contrary, Volley Köniz should not be allowed to play in the Oberstufenzentrum. Absolutely nothing in that gym is adapted to professional volleyball. A low ceiling, reduced clearance around the court and shitty stands. These which are retractable are worth a travel for themselves. They have certainly been inspired from Tower Bridge in London (draw bridge). But the Commune of Köniz has incidentally understood the need of a new bulding. A new sports arena should be built in the next years for Volley Köniz.

And the question of the sports venues brings another important question: "Can professionnal volleyball exist or survive in isolated villages?" As it is a bit difficult to ask a village to build a sports hall, the future of pro volleyball seems to be obviously in medium or big towns. And as a matter of fact, that’s more or less the current situation. All the teams are located in towns or in their near neighbourhood, except VFM or eventually Düdingen: Genève, Cheseaux near Lausanne, Neuchâtel, Biel-Bienne, Köniz near Bern, Aesch-Pfeffingen near Basel, Schaffhausen and Zürich. In the past, Luzern (Montana Luzern and BTV Luzern) and Basel and its suburbs (RG Basel, Uni Basel, RTV Basel, KTV Riehen) were hot spots of volleyball. Bern as well (Uni Bern and Volley Käniz). Isolated villages do not reach NLA that often (e.g. Volley Toggenburg or VBC Glaronia Glarus).

  • If you like volleyball, never hesitate to go to Geneva. Genève Volley is the only club in NLA that offers the entrance. Next Saturday they receive Sm’Aesch Pfeffingen at 5.30 p.m. and next Sunday they receive VBC Voléro Zürich at 2.30 p.m. at Henry-Dunant.

  • Ähemm... sorry, that's not correct :teach: . Sm'Aesch Pfeffingen also offers the entry since they were playing in the NLA. They always have sponsors who pay the bill...

Oh, that’s very good news. I took the wrong information from Geneva’s website. But how much does that cost to sponsor the entries? In fact not that much. Let’s take 200 spectators at every game at home that pay CHF 15.– each. As there are 9 games at home in the preliminary round, the bill amounts to only 27’000.- CHF.

If we take for example a football team in Spain, such a sponsorship would cost a lot more. 19 games at home for, I don’t know, CHF 30.– and about 80’000 spectators attending each game. Cost: 45,6 Mio. Oops.

  • During the game that was opposing Sagres Neuchâtel UC to FKB Volley Düdingen, at the end of the third set, the Freiburger team was playing during a few minutes with six foreign players. The win of the third set allowed Düdingen to return to the charge 2:1. We’ll see in the next days if that "mistake" brings suit.

  • We made a trip to Schaffhausen this weekend to surprise our clubs former players Grit Lehmann and Lina Sundström. Here are some pictures of the game against Hôtel Cristal VFM. (gallery 1/gallery 2) Two small clips will follow @ youtube...

Sorry for that mistake - took it from Swiss Volley Guide, misread it... Entschuldigung !

Furthermore, in our case, we are delighted to "offer" free entrance to our public. But in fact, there is no sponsor paying for it... We have the problem the other way around : if we claim paying entrance, we pay a higher rental rate for our hall and the difference is so high that it's not worth while ! We hope that free entrance will also encourage people to come, and also to make a stopover at our bar and shop before the game or before leaving the hall - and that is also good for the club. :read:

  • Does anyone out there know of a newspaper, magazine, radio or TV that has a regular follow-up of the Swiss National Championship for women ? With analysis, etc... ? If so, kindly feedback !

Thanks to all of you ! :sos:

  • The Belarussian OH, Ekaterina Skrabatun, that played for VBC Voléro Zürich from 2008 to 2009, will play this current season for VBC Biel-Bienne. That might eventually change the situation at the end of the classification, especially for VBC Cheseaux. The team of Canton Vaud hardly beat the Bernese club this week-end just before the arrival of the new recruitment. Of course, this surprising transfer evocates immediately Voléro’s controversial collaboration with Biel, all the more the information appears on Voléro’s website that usually never reports on other club’s transfers.
