Germany - DVL 1. Bundesliga 2013/14

  • Ladies in black AACHEN - Schweriner SC 3:1 (27:25, 25:23, 16:25, 25:20)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2013-14/Women/&2104.pdf
MVP: Femke Stoltenborg / Ivana Isailovic
Aachen continues to be in very good shape. Looks like they were very well prepared for Mudritskaya and recovered well from a bad 3rd set. Maybe Matt can tell more about the match...

    Allianz MTV Stuttgart - Rote Raben Vilsbiburg 0:3 (23:25, 22:25, 12:25)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2013-14/Women/&2103.pdf
MVP: Evelyn Delogu / Michelle Bartsch
Good game for Vilsbiburg despite the absence of Jenna Hagglund and Cristina Alves. Stuttgart put up a good fight for two sets and then seem to have given up...

    VolleyStars Thüringen - VT Aurubis Hamburg 3:2 (25:10, 28:26, 27:29, 21:25, 15:11)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2013-14/Women/&2105.pdf
MVP: Christina Speer / Jovana Gogic
After a disastrous 1st set Hamburg finally showed some fighting spirit, defended two match points in 3rd set and managed to reach 5th set which was balanced until 11:11, then Hamburg's mistakes killed them once again.

    USC Münster - VC Wiesbaden 2:3 (25:16, 19:25, 25:19, 22:25, 8:15)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2013-14/Women/&2107.pdf
MVP: Ashley Benson / Karine Muijlwijk
Ashley Benson is back :super: Unfortunately Schaus and Petrausch stopped scoring after a good 1st set and on the other side Muijlwijk and Tanja Großer started to improve. 4th set was open until 20:20 but Wiesbaden rescued themselves to 5th set where they dominated from the beginning.

    SC Potsdam - Köpenicker SC Berlin 1:3 (25:22, 20:25, 20:25, 16:25)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2013-14/Women/&2106.pdf
MVP: Kathy Radzuweit / Patricia Grohmann
Surprising result which gives an abrupt ending to Hamburg's slight celebrations for winning a point yesterday :D Despite the return of Jessica Rivero, Potsdam loses the derby. Turning point of the match probably was a serving series from Shany Peham in 2nd set from 9:14 to 19:14. Good match once again by Hanne Haugen Aas, Patti Grohmann and also Saskia Radzuweit finally used her chance well when she replaced Ashley Frazier today.

    Ranking:
    1 VC Wiesbaden 17 41:21 36
    2 Dresdner SC 15 39:18 34
    3 Ladies in black AACHEN 17 37:24 34
    4 Rote Raben Vilsbiburg 17 37:25 34
    5 Schweriner SC 15 33:23 28
    6 SC Potsdam 16 33:33 23
    7 VolleyStars Thüringen 17 33:38 22
    8 USC Münster 16 32:36 21
    9 Allianz MTV Stuttgart 16 26:36 20
    10 Köpenicker SC Berlin 16 20:41 12
    11 VT Aurubis Hamburg 16 12:48 3

Hamburg has now really only theoretical chances to reach 10th place, they'd have to get 3 points from all their remaining matches and Köpenick max. 3. Most interesting for the remainder of regular season is the fight for 6th rank which means direct qualification for playoffs and avoiding pre-playoffs, only one of Potsdam/Thüringen/Münster/Stuttgart can get it but all four still have the chance.

  • SC Potsdam - Köpenicker SC Berlin 1:3 (25:22, 20:25, 20:25, 16:25)

I actually wanted to comment in real time, but the stadium in Aachen is sunk into the ground and the 3G signal is pretty weak. Which is pretty much the only negative thing I can say about Aachen, the atmosphere was amazing and the team looked very solid and well prepared indeed... Their game plan was to target Poll's reception (they know her well of course, but they're not the first team to try that this season) and there's not much to say except that it worked pretty well.

By contrast, Schwerin didn't seem well prepared. A person familiar with the situation told me before the game that Aachen thought Stoltenborg's tips wouldn't be effective because Schwerin would be ready for ready for them, but they kept leaving her space and she kept filling her boots (I counted 5 from 5, whatever the stats say). Mudritskaya was pretty much stifled by the Ladies in Black and I really thought Vilponen was more effective as opp on this occasion.

Overall Aachen looked very comfortable at all times besides the start of the third set. Even when they lost a three- or four-point lead, they didn't panic and earned it back. I should also say I thought that Beliën played a lot better than the stats suggest.

  • I think berlin really underperformed this season and many girls have not played as they should have had played. Now lets wait one more year. Also, (not mentioning defence and Goepner :aww: :wall: ) and no matter what others say - I think passing was also pretty poor - that also had negative influence on getting confidence among girls. I also think that Radzuweit should get more time on the floor.

  • It says she doesn't need another surgery on her knee because the recovery is going well , and Schwerin wants to keep her for next season and she is interested in staying but at the moment can't think that far.

Jenna Hagglund (Vilsbiburg) suffered a meniscus injury in training last week, she'll fly to USA this week to have surgery and she'll be out for 6 weeks, so she'll miss the Cup final ;(

    Four broadcasts on http://www.dvllive.tv tomorrow:
    19.02.2014 | 18:30 Uhr | Rote Raben Vilsbiburg – Dresdner SC
    19.02.2014 | 19:00 Uhr | Schweriner SC – VolleyStars Thüringen
    19.02.2014 | 19:00 Uhr | Köpenicker SC Berlin – USC Münster
    19.02.2014 | 20:00 Uhr | VT Aurubis Hamburg – SC Potsdam

Hamburg has to win, otherwise they have no more chance for 10th place...and if Köpenick wins again, Hamburg's result doesn't matter anyway.

  • Could Wiesbaden win German league ?

I don't think so. When the big teams are at 100% in playoffs, they'll be stronger than Wiesbaden. Wiesbaden is a very balanced and experienced team with a good coach that plays a very efficient style with few errors, but the individual qualities of the players won't be enough to be champion.

so which teams could be other than Dresdner?

  • If Dresden stays free of injuries, they should make it this season. I can't see any other team beating them two or three times in playoffs. The main contenders will be Vilsbiburg, Schwerin, Aachen and Wiesbaden. It all depends on the teams' shapes during playoff and whether there will be any injuries of important players. For example Hagglund's absence could be a problem for Vilsbiburg, she's expected to be back for the playoffs but it's not exactly sure when, so if they meet Aachen or Schwerin in quarterfinal without Hagglund they might already be eliminated there...

  • Results from Wednesday:

    Rote Raben Vilsbiburg - Dresdner SC 3:1 (27:25, 27:29, 25:14, 25:20)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2013-14/Women/&2110.pdf
MVP: Liana Mesa / Stefanie Karg
Surprising result, Vilsbiburg without Hagglund but Helterhoff played a good match and it was a deserved victory. It should even have been 3:0 because in 2nd set at 25:24, Liana Mesa made an attack that was clearly in but the 1st referee gave it out and Dresden could turn this set around. First full match by Corina Ssuschke-Voigt and she did well.

    Köpenicker SC Berlin - USC Münster 3:2 (25:21, 10:25, 23:25, 25:21, 15:11)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2013-14/Women/&2112.pdf
MVP: Patricia Grohmann / Leonie Schwertmann
Münster is kind of developing a tie-break complex lately, losing in 5 against Dresden, Wiesbaden and now Köpenick. Köpenick started slow and totally lost track in 2nd set but fought their way back into the match. In 4th set Münster came back from 8:16 to 19:19 and had the chance to win in 4, but then they had some bad luck: at 20:20, Köpenick's libero "attacked" a ball and Münster's defense let it drop, at 21:21 there was a controversial decision when Benson dug a ball, the 1st referee let the rally continue and Münster made the point but after the rally the 2nd referee went to the 1st and told him the ball early was on the floor, so Köpenick got the point and Münster lost the set.

    Schweriner SC - VolleyStars Thüringen 3:2 (25:15, 17:25, 25:18, 20:25, 15:11)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2013-14/Women/&2108.pdf
MVP: Tatyana Mudritskaya / Vendula Merkova
Radenkovic couldn't play because of a muscular problem in her leg, Hindriksen didn't start the match because of illness but eventually had to enter and play until the end because Thüringen's other setter apparently didn't play well.

    VC Wiesbaden - Allianz MTV Stuttgart 3:0 (25:19, 25:18, 25:11)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2013-14/Women/&2111.pdf
MVP: Karine Muijlwijk / Rebecca Pavan
Easy match for Wiesbaden, Stuttgart with many ups and downs this season and at the moment there seems to be another "down" phase. However, their manager announced that he wants to keep Guillermo Hernandez as coach for next season because he's sure he is the right one. If I remember well, he said something similar about Gil Ferrer when he signed him last summer

    VT Aurubis Hamburg - SC Potsdam 0:3 (24:26, 10:25, 19:25)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2013-14/Women/&2113.pdf
MVP: Jennifer Pettke / Jessica Rivero
After showing some fight in 1st set, Hamburg gave up in the end. Now there's not even a theoretical chance for 10th place, but as no team from 2nd league is likely to come up, Hamburg will stay in 1st league 99%. They have already announced the new coach: Dirk Sauermann who is currently coach of Hamburg's 2nd team who is last in 2nd league and hasn't won a match there either :aww: Helmut von Soosten will take over the 2nd team instead. It's questionable if any player will stay because apparently nobody feels well in Hamburg :white:

Grohmann has been absolutely ausgezeichnet. She was pretty aggressiv at times and was playing above the rest.

  • Hopefully Aachen will take revenge in Suhl, tomorrow :super: :super: :super:

  • The team and coach are good. But I really wish they had given more chances to younger girls from youth systems like all the other clubs do.

Aachen has no history, structure and youth-academy like Schwerin, Dresden, Münster etc.

  • Aachen has no history, structure and youth-academy like Schwerin, Dresden, Münster etc.

Exactly. Why don't they benefit from country's youth systems? Why don't they bring young players that have prospects of development in NT players? Make long-term contract and not pay 10-11 transfer payments to other countries. They could easily get the young players from other academies like the rest of clubs do. When younger player develops into NT player - thats when club can make name for itself.
