2013 USA NCAA Division I Volleyball

  • Missouri, the #4 tournament seed, and the surprise team of the year with a 34-0 regular season record, is out of the tournament. Purdue beat them in the second round 3:1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-16, 27-25).

And another upset, as BYU eliminates #11 seed Hawaii 3:0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-13).

    Winners advance to Elite Eight

Biggest upset from the first two rounds would have to be American University, beating teams from the SEC and ACC. The Patriot League is usually a lower level league, so this is a shock.
Big Ten is very strong with 7 teams in the Sweet 16. Pac-12 with 3, Big 12 and West Coast Conference with 2, and the ACC with 1.

  • Sad that Hawaii lost.

but looking foward to a possible Penn State x Stanford..that should be interesting. :)

Yeah, I was raging while watching their match against BYU. Hawaii's MB2 has terrible block form and jump height. The match was like a 6 v. 1 :(
But Nebraska has been doing very well with their young team...not to mention Texas still has its huge weapons.

  • Stanford again out of the NCAA finals. ;(

Penn State program is stronger lately, we know, but I still had a hope for the Cardinals.

So sad the 6 most traditional teams meet eachother in the regional finals. University of Wisconsin and Pardue University I guess are not on the same level of Penn State, Texas at Austin, University of Washington, Nesbaska-Lincoln, Southern California and Standord.

It really hard to predict the winner. I think Texas Austin and Penn State may have something more. Washington is back to NCAA finals after some years, so girls may have problems to handle the pressure.

  • 2005 was when Washington won its only title. Huskies won the Pac-12 regular season outright this year. Split two matches with Stanford, best USC 3 times this year.

Penn State and Stanford was a long match, with lots of long rallies. These two teams bring out the best in these two teams, but Penn State always seems to have Stanford's number.
Penn State lost to Texas in the early part of the season in 5 sets. Penn State won the Big Ten by 3 conference wins more than Nebraska, so they were clearly a dominant team in the toughest conference.

Wisconsin finished 4th in the Big Ten behind Nebraska and Minnesota, but 7 conference wins behind Penn State. Wisconsin were 15-1 outside of Big Ten.

Texas lost to Hawaii on opening night and Arizona State. Arizona State was one of the final teams in the tournament and got knocked out in the first round by BYU.

Texas should have no problem with Wisconsin. Washington and Penn State should be a great match. The University of Washington is in Seattle, so there will be a big crowd behind them and possibly push them over the top.

  • Why can the weekend not come any faster! I am dying to find out which team is the 2013 NCAA champion!

But I am also curious to see the AVCA All-American picks. I have a general gist of who will be all-american, but it is always exciting to see who they pick to be first team, second team, etc.

  • Yes! Hartong made first team!

But I am surprised Lauren Plum did not make even third team. Did her performance drop that much this year?

She missed about 1/3 of the season with a foot injury.

  • The Ducks were not as good this year in the Pac-12. Finished 4th, 4 wins behind 3rd place USC, 6 behind Washington. They did get to the tournament, but lost to Nebraska in Round 2.

  • Could any american user post here a link for the matches? They should be showed by ESPN as usual.

You can watch replays on ESPN online for free. They usually come out an hour or so after the actual match, but if you try to livestream a match they will ask you to provide your television cable provider... :what:
