Italy - Serie A1 2015/16

  • Casalmaggiore defeated Bergamo by 3-1.

Lloyd's sets were being too shaky in the end of 4th set hence her attackers hardly hit, but they didn't lose the advantage they got from the errors of Plak and Barun.
And Barbolini's substitution just perfectly worked as Cambi using Stevanovic very well (quite unexpected set I'd say, none of Bergamo's blockers were ready for this) and Rossi completing the match.

Bergamo with attacking problems. Barun too inconsistent, Sylla completely invisible, only Gennari and Aelbrecht played good IMO. Cardullo, definitely not like her best days prior to injury.

Despite the win, Casalmaggiore definitely needs to prepare better for CL, they don't have good bench members, especially for Tirozzi and Piccinini, when they have a terrible day or get tired, I don't see any good alternatives.

    Comunque, auguri :)

  • Casalmaggiore has got Lucia Bacchi, who a good player. Barbolini is not really famous for loving long rosters, he usually plays with the same players. The only question mark could be Piccinini's shape, she's 36, but still the best!

  • I've watched the match too and I have to say that Bergamo is still quite a mess. They didn't have an easy schedule, facing two strong teams right at the beginning; more over they still have to find the right chemistry. They won the first set only thank to Casalmaggiore's mistakes: Pomì made 13 mistakes in the first, in the other three they made 10... Reception is still a mess, it must be fixed as we have a great setter and good MBs who can score a lot! Sylla was too stubborn yesterday and kept hitting against the block, Barun still has to find a good shape.

Pomì besides the mistakes in the first set, looked better: the reception works as also the block: if it's not a winning block, they manage to stop the ball and the defense can work in an easier way. It will be interesting to see what they'll do next week, against Imoco! :super:

  • I wonder why Sylla and Paggi start over Plak and Frigo.

I wonder the same, too. Plak can't be on bench, Bergamo needs her power. And Paggi is too old now to be starter in a team that want to win something again. Besides Frigo showed good thing in her little time on court during the last match.

  • Agree to put the stress on the weak reception of Bergamo team.
Alessia Gennari has been bombed by Casalmaggiore servers. Result : only 32 % positive receptions for 41 balls.
Worse for Miriam Sylla with ... 19% positive (27 balls).
Weak attack too yesterday and block defense so so 7 vs 18 !
    ...
So much work for this team but I can't imagine Bergamasche girls won't improve with Lavarini and the local spirit. :box:

  • I absolutely agree on Frigo, she should have a chance, but I understand very well why Plak is on the bench more often than on court: she's too unstable on the second line fundamentals for a team that already has so many problems. Of course Sylla is not a master herself, but you can tell she has been working and she's trying also different attacking solutions, right now is not paying off, but this is just the beginning (and I'm sure that as soon as Barun will find her best shape, all the other players will benefit). Maybe it's just me, but I always feel uncertain when Plak does everything else than attacking, I always wonder what kind of movements she will do, in which position she will find herself; sometimes her roughness is even funny, but if you think she's playing in Serie A is not that funny anymore. She has indeed an incredible potential, but if she wants (has) to play as an OH her power is not enough; her technique in every fundamental has to improve a lot, she's still young, it's true, but this is the time to do this kind of work.

Plus I wonder who taught Plak the awful block technique that she showed yesterday

  • I totally agree Celeste needs to improve her reception and defense a lot !!! That's also the reason she was a substitute during ECH...

But, in the end, volleyball is about scoring points...and since she is a (much) better spiker than Gennari and Sylla...Lavarini will have to make a tough decision.

Gennari supposed to be the stable receiver...and Cardullo as well...if they do a good job, there is no problem letting Celeste play as OH, covering only little part of the field..

  • Novara-Club Italia 3:1

Again very good performance for Samanta Fabris with 26 points, Novara for CL should find one more scorer :|

Don't worry. They will probably beat Atom Trefl and Calcit Kamnik :)

  • So as last season Montichiari is cursed team for Modena, as Firenze for Piacenza: Modena lost 3-0 (greatest surprise of the day) and Piacenza lost 3-2. On top Novara, Casalmaggiore and Imoco with 6 points. Also Busto grabs its first win against Bolzano with a super performance from Lowe!
This championship is gonna be great :woohoo:

  • Imoco showed to be one of the strongest team of the league by beating Pomì 3-2. The match looked very balanced, with Pomì managing to win the 3rd and 4th set, otherwise Conegliano would have won before. Great match for Hodge and Robinson, they're really having great matches in this beginning of the league. On the other side Kozuch finishes with 24 points.

I'm wondering what Imoco can do with Glass, even if Bechis is playing really good too :win:

Modena wins in straight sets against Busto, while Bolzano and Foppa find their first win by beating Firenze and Scandicci respectively, by 3-1. Piacenza had some hard time against Club Italia, but then they found their rhythm and won 3-1.
