  • I'm watching Daejeon KGC - Heungkuk Life.

The match is a bit less all about the foreign spiker, but almost nothing changed.

Taylor Simpson (Heungkuk Life) is very good , while Hayley Spelman (Daejeon KGC) is far from being enough for this kind of volleyball and I doubt they will wait for her if they can still change the foreign along the season.

Are we watching the same match? ?( Spelman is leading the team basically by herself and Simpson's setter is terrible.

  • Spelman with nearly 50 points :white:
I'm wondering how long her body will last until the end of the season...

  • I left after the first 2 sets. Simpson was better, clearly better at the time. Yes, Daejeon is weak team, there is just an outside hitter I like from them. I have this feeling Spelman won't last a lot. She was too weak for the last classified team from italian Serie A1, there's no way she can hold alone a korean team IMHO. Eventually Pink Spiders won after tie break.

  • I think she can, Korean league's quality is very low, not even comparable to Serie A, Spelman had a very bad season in Italy nonetheless. The real question is how long she will last, It's a long season and she holds such responsibility in attack. (Same goes to the other foreign players.)
51 points for a debut match, isn't it too much?

KGC's setter was a nightmare, no fricking matter how good reception she gets, she sets to Spelman all the time. I'm not even surprised though since I saw how Montano, Vasileva, Fawcett, Da Silva and Rahimova played in the league :wavy:

  • She's tall and slow. I think she won't make it till the end of the season.

Anyway I noticed Spelman looks like a more cute Kozuch and Simpson reminds me Anne Buijs.

  • I liked Emily Hartong's performance versus Pinkspiders despite her team's loss. She's not a monster hitter but is a very good all around player, kinda like Larson and Robinson. I don't think her style fits korean league but fun to watch at least. She was by far the best passer in her team and has almost the same responsibility in attack in the meantime as the other americans.

  • It was the first match I watched. Hartong is a very good player, what a pity she wasted a season sitting on bench in Zurich.

I expect big number by McMahon, since I saw what she's is capable of in Juncos (Porto Rico).

Hartong and Simpson have passing jobs, so I don't expect 30+ points each game, but they are still solid players. Simpson had a season ending injury in Porto Rico, so she may need more time to reach her best shape.

Kath Bell is a good question mark, since she can play both MB and OP, but she was very good in NCAA.

I have less expectations from Spelman and Cikra. Both failed last season. The first one was very weak in Italy, the second one failed a try out in Grece and didn't sign with any other team.

Talking about the teams... IBK Altos is favourite again, having a strong base from national player, which won the KOVO Cup already and the most dominant among the foreigners.

GS Caltex Seoul may be the main opponent. Hyundai Hillstate and Gyeongbuk Hi-pass a step behind. Heungkuk Life, having the NT twin player may be the surprise. KGC Daejeon is the weakest team probably.

  • I just had a look and thought it would be useful to make a list. Correct me if there's something wrong.

  • Raven#7, your expectations are turning to be the opposite :D

Leslie Cikra made an outstanding debut in Korean league today, 38 points. I liked her arm swings, very aggressive. From what I saw so far, she's a better spiker than McMahon at least. But unfortunately none of her teammates took her off from such huge responsibility in attack and they lost to Hartong's team.

Emily Hartong is slowly finding her good shape in attack and her defense is pretty amazing for a 23 yo inexperienced player. She's pretty much balanced, just like Jordan Larson or Kelsey Robinson...sort of. I believe if she keeps this level, many top european teams would want her for next season. IMO she's a really good all around player for OH2 position.

I don't know much about korean local players and the level of the league is seemingly getting better, there's no monster hitters like Rahimova or Fawcett this year, I think that makes this league more interesting.

  • Any news or any website with updates from this league? I'm interested in both prospective foreigners as well as prospective native players for within the Korean League.

I only know of the "KOVO" website (the website English version have very little useful info) and their youtube channel KOVO volley. I also have to use Google Chrome/Translate to decipher the website in to English but you can find some interviews of the foreigners players through the KOVO website very easily.

On Youtube you can find videos at SpoTV channel and highlights of all the games so far this season. Spot TV also uploads the full game replay but they don't have a playlist for it so I made one, 2015-16 KOVO Women V-League Full Game Replay Playlist.

In the latest game between KGC and Heungkuk, Lee Jaeyeong (one of the twin) injured her left ankle/leg. Not sure how serious the injury is, Video. This will seriously hurt Heungkuk Pink Spiders chances of winning the championship if Lee Jaeyeong is rule out for the rest of the entire season.

  • Kind of late but congrats to KGC for winning their 2nd game this season and ending an 11 games losing streak :win: .
After trailing 2-1 set against Korea Expressway, they didn't give up and fought back :box: to win 2-3 (16-25, 25-18, 25-21, 14-25, 10-15) [Match highlights].
The win meant a lot to them as you can see some of the KGC players crying Link. for efforts.
