  • Greece collects two gold medals from BVA Balkan Championship tournament



    The medal winners at the BVA Balkan Championship tournament in Kardzhali
    Kardzhali, Bulgaria, September 1, 2014 - Both the women’s and the men’s gold medals from the second tournament of the 2014 BVA Beach Volleyball Balkan Championship Tour travelled to Greece as duos from that country climbed to the top of the podium in the Bulgarian city of Kardzhali.


    Well-known tandem Vasiliki Arvaniti/Maria Tsiartsiani swept through the women’s competition, without losing any sets in their five matches. The Bulgarian home queens Asya Dinova/Svetla Angelova fell victim to the Greeks in the semifinals, losing 2-0 (21-16, 21-14). In the final, Arvaniti/Tsiartsiani took only 29 minutes to seal their superiority over Romania’s Ioana Ordean/Adriana Melniciuc by 2-0 (21-15, 21-16). Dinova/Angelova took the bronze after overpowering Moldova’s Polina Idjilova/Ecaterina Arabadji by 2-1 (18-21, 21-17, 15-12) in a dramatic 48-minute third place match.


    Duos from five of the ten BVA member countries - Bulgaria, Greece, Moldova, Romania and Turkey - took part in the second tournament of the 2014 BVA Beach Volleyball Balkan Championship Tour.
