Men's World Championship 2018

The WCH qualifiers in Europe (the most anticipated round, at least) start today. 5 out of the 6 groups in total will have a schedule in a span of 5 days, playing with no rest, only the group in the Netherlands, starting today, will have a day off on Friday. This rest day is usually a must when more teams are involved in the group, it (or its absence) may turn out to be crucial for some of the teams. Still, a quick look through the other 5 groups shows that hosts have planned to play theoreticall...

2017 - 2018 transfer rumours

Quoted from "serdar" According to voleybolunsesi.com Arslan Eksi will play in Novosibirsk next season. It has been confirmed by Lokomotiv Novosibirsk's webpage, it is official now That's a weird/risky choice of a setter for the Russians.

2017 FIVB U21 World Championship | Czech Republic

Quoted from "Kaziyski" Tragic performance by Bulgaria today, really poor match Yes, unfortunately I have written previously about the future of Bulgarian volleyball, with the current (eternal) governing body, the mere qualification is considered a success, but we know very well that this didn't use to be enough. Now the picture is different. Unlike younger generations, this one (plus the 2-years-older ones despite their often shameful results in ECHs, qualies, etc.) was probably the last for wh...

2017 FIVB U21 World Championship | Czech Republic

Quoted from "Kaziyski" Turkey lost huuge by this decision as I remember they wrote on official site they are already qualified through world rankings so they didn't sent the best possibile team in Croatia. Dunno for how long FIVB can behave like that and who's going to stop that. If I'm Turks place I would make some official moves in order to compensate missing WCH Who was missing from the Turkish team? Because Lagumdzija, Cam, and Avci travelled to Croatia and they are surely not bench players...

CEV Champions League 2017

Quoted from "powsoff" This is not entirely correct. Zenit does overrecruit local players and there are always talks about them accumulating the talents brought up elsewhere. But I have to say, this occurs episodically. They indeed headhunted plenty of top experienced players in the past (Ball, Tetyukihn etc), which let them win their first CL. Mikhaylov was also one of the big fishes. Then had two NT members on the bench last year, and last year they grabbed Butko and Volvich. But if one looks ...

2017 - 2018 transfer rumours

Quoted from "Kaziyski" Le Roux applied on Korean draft so might be leaving. Talking about limited budget while signing Stoychev, Bruno & Sabbi (paying compensation) and extending with N'Gapeth and Holt simply doesn't fit I'm sure u will agree Obviously Modena has money I don't know the financial parameters of all those, do you? True, they aren't forced to play with Serie B players or youngsters, but Stoychev would've picked Zaytsev and Kaziyski if he had the chance instead, for instance. You wo...

2017 - 2018 transfer rumours

Rado Stoychev discussed his choice to coach Modena last week and said a few words about the club's ambitions. Modena's idea is to develop a few local players and to become increasingly threatening both in Italy and Europe on a span of 3-4 years. Which means that probably more money and titles should be awaited in the next few seasons. Right now Modena is said to have a more limited budget which was used to sign Bruno, keep Ngapeth plus some of the current roster and eventually sign a decent oppo...

CEV Champions League 2017

Quoted from "powsoff" Quoted from "YavorD" Quoted from "scarpetta" No doubt Kazan is a fantastic team but I don't think it is as great as Perugia made them. This is why I'm very disappointed not to see a Lube- Kazan Final. Let me first say that I am very happy to have watched the Final Four in Rome and Zenit Kazan live. The Russians actually for the third Final Four in a row I am mostly delighted to have watched Alexander Butko (I am a setter and have always like setters) and Wilfredo Leon, a s...

2017 - 2018 transfer rumours

Quoted from "Kk15" Unless Modena is such plenty of money they can aire Zaytsev as opposite... I am still digesting the fact that Stoychev chose to go to Modena, but it will surely take me way longer to imagine Zaytsev next to Ngapeth in one team

France LNV 2016/2017

Quoted from "Kaziyski" Quoted from "YavorD" One of the most underrated coaches in the volleyball world, Silvano Prandi, won the French league with Chaumont! A total sensation but a well-deserved success both for him and the club, which has shown serious progress in the past 2-3 years. His story (and age) kind of reminds of his countryman Claudio Ranieri's football fairy tale. Well I wouldn't call it sensation, in fact I forseen them as title contenders Check out my earlier post here, I also con...

Germany - Volleyball Bundesliga (VBL) 2016/17

Yeah, sorry that there was not much participation going on, I didn't have much time to follow the Bundesliga this season either, to be honest. I mostly watched Friedrichshafen and Berlin's CL campaigns and not many of their Bundesliga matches, excluding the first of VfB's wins against Berlin. Even the Cup final, a spectacular match from what I read, has been downloaded and is still waiting for me to catch up However, one could still see this year's true Berlin RV in the Champions League. Carroll...

Italy – Superlega Unipolsai 2016-2017

Quoted from "Kk15" Personally I didn't follow him but I heard great/good thing about him. So far no news in Italy about him staying (and in which team). But he is probably still considered too young and inexperienced for a top club, though. The information I have is that Miskevich and Seganov extended contracts with Sora. The management are said to be satisfied with the two. Based on Sora's matches I watched, the cooperation between the two was very good and they created trouble for most teams ...

2017 - 2018 transfer news

Quoted from "Kk15" And - as perfectly known by everybody - now Stoytchev in Modena is official He signed for three years and with him they're starting a new cycle and a multi-years project, with the aim to grow new young players mixing them with great experienced players and to promote volley in the territory. Modena also presented the new vicepresident, Giulia Gabana, daughter of Marcello Gabana (who died in an elicopter accident in 2009). He was sponsor and then president of Monza-Montichiari...

Russia | Суперлига 2016/17

Quoted from "powsoff" By far the most interesting game of the season so far: Zenit beat Lokomotiv Novosibirsk 19:17 on the tie-breaker. Novosibirsk had a match-ball. I get disappointed when teams manage to put Zenit under pressure but fail to finish the job. It doesn't happen often for Zenit to appear off-guard and those chances should be utilized. What is even more impressive than the hard-fought result is that Lokomotiv did so without their main opposite Pavlov, Plamen Konstantinov's favourit...
