FIVB World Championship 2017

I couldn't follow the qualification process entirely, to be honest, there are some absolutely unknown players from "exotic" countries that will participate in Vienna. Most of the world's best teams made it to the event in the Netherlands 2 years ago, we even had balanced groups of 4 pairs. In 2017, this will hardly be the case. Pools D and L eventually should be slightly more entertaining, the fun will most probably start from the second round otherwise.

2017 FIVB World League

Quoted from "rbdfabio" Holy Holy what a GAME.... I think this was the best WL ever, and ended as the best game ever, or at least ties with Brazil vs Serbia (2003 and 2009). A great and dramatic final cannot make up for a weak tournament No matter how entertaining the final was, this WL was far from being the best ever. The 2016 and 2017 editions, starting even just from the competition formula, were very weird. Besides, it is Division I that you are probably referring to, there were some really...

Germany - Volleyball Bundesliga (VBL) 2017/18

Thanks a lot for the update and for the work in the thread in advance I guess it means that Tirol will no longer compete in the Austrian league, right? Posojilnica is the team to play in the CL instead, they were even drawn against Fenerbahce in the 3rd qualifying round. Both Tirol and Unterhaching are said to keep their junior/youth/amateur structures. As for Unteraching, they will have a team in the 2. Bundesliga South comprised mostly of the players who gained that right last season anyway. A...

FIVB World Tour 2017

I double-checked it before posting here. Even like that it seems there is no mistake. Local football star Ivan Perisic will take part in the Porec Major this week and he will start right from the Main Draw! Obviously, it is purely an entertainment decision and I think it is fine However, I wonder if a volleyball player would ever be allowed to play football professionally just for the sake of entertaining the crowd. It is a rhetorical question, don't bother answering. Should be fun, though, Peri...

2017 FIVB World League

Quoted from "rbdfabio" @YavorD I was actually rooting for Bulgaria to win these 3 games and qualify for the final round. But how can I root for them if they don`t even want to play because they don`t think they can win? How about if you just try? it is ok to loose for Brazil, but at least u should just try. The season was long for everyone, so how come the Brazilians can play all 9 games plus the finals? And last summer they were busy at the WL finals and OG, Bulgaria was just resting while Bra...

2017 FIVB World League

Quoted from "rbdfabio" Bulgaria is not playing with their starters. If they won`t play to win, why did they even fly all the way to Argentina? Brazil already on a 8-0 run. FIVB should consider that and exclude them and teams that does this kind of thing, at least Japan and China would play to win and give their best if they were playing against Brazil. No wondering why Bulgaria and some of these small countries never win anything. I already can see Russia letting the USA and Iran win this weeke...

CEV Champions League 2018

The draw for the first qualification rounds will be held today. If anyone knows what is going on in Spain and why they continue to show no interest in club's competitions (is it only about the money?), please, share. Spain recently held a World League Division III tournament in Barcelona which was well-attended, I really want to know what is happening with their clubs/federation.

2017 FIVB World League

Quoted from "LDvolley" I may be alone in this, but I like the new format. It's more similar to the old WL format we had until some years ago (that I loved) and everyone gets to play everyone, no more easier schedule bullshit for some teams. The only negative is having deadweights like Korea and China instead of Belgium/Slovenia, but whatever... Any formula is better than the current one, no question about that. What we mostly dislike is not the actual formula itself but the lack of transparency...

2017 FIVB World League

Quoted from "mosi" Quoted from "Kaziyski" Quoted from "mosi" according to IVF, there will be 16 teams next year, 12 teams are confirmed for next 7 years !!! Brazil, Iran, China, Italy, Poland, Serbia, USA, France, Japan, Germany, Russia and Argentina. and these 4 teams will be in tier 1 next year. Australia, South Korea, Canada and Bulgaria. I got confirmation this is true... Yep, the original source was someone reliable from inside FIVB btw for those interested in women's volleyball. here is t...

2017 FIVB World League

About the other teams I could watch, with the agreement that the World League's intercontinental round has not been serious enough recently to make super general assumptions. Vital Heynen's style is visible in most teams he has coached, Belgium is no exception. Pretty much the same group of players we have seen before, maybe even a bit weaker, but look at their results this season so far. Argentina is a real disappointment, no question about it. I will be looking forward to their matches at home...

2017 FIVB World League

Quoted from "Kaziyski" Quoted from "LDvolley" Unless Brazil turns things around in this game, it looks like we are set for relegation even if we beat Bulgaria at home in last weekend (I would like to believe Italy will beat either Canada or Belgium). Velasco understimated the competition, there is no reason for De Cecco and Conte to skip this WL. It is highly likely Bulgaria wont travel to Cordoba with full team their priority is ECH in last August/early September so exhausting trip to Argentin...

FIVB World Tour 2017

OK, time to resurrect the thread again, it has been silent for a while. Moscow has seen some great matches and especially finals for a few years now, this year's is no exception. Volleycountry's report you can find here. Great rallies and overall wonderful beach volleyball played at 12°C The more interesting part of the season is still ahead, although some events have been dropped from the calendar, thus making the season a bit shorter, favourites should start collecting more points with time, b...

2017 FIVB World League

The 4th set in Japan between Korea and Slovenia was so weird that it probably deserves a separate analysis. Neither team wanted to win it, it seems. After the convincing 3rd part (something like 25-13), Slovenia destroyed the Koreans at the beginning of the 4th when they had a 13-8 advantage. The match was practically almost over. Kovac rested his opposite Gasparini already in set 3 and Stern started the fourth set from the first point. The score seemed to have relaxed the Slovenians and Kovac c...
