Chinese NT 2017

I really hope Zhang Chang-ning plays. China NT seems lacking something without her. As punishing as Zhu can be, Zhang brings the brutality, imo. I forget which game it was, but one from the last weekend, Wang Yun-lu was big smiles and overly talkative like she was making a last ditch effort to not get cut. It worked on me. I enjoyed her.

Women's World Grand Prix 2017

Quoted from "rbdfabio" Exhibition Match: Four national team captains vs Hong Kong Airline women's volleyball team That's some fast paced action. The team captains aren't allowed to jump I love after that (I believe) Zhu Ting spike, they sort of pantomime the traditional huddle in the middle and share love and joy with your team mates

Okay, so I'm a naive volleyball virgin. Like someone who sits at a professional poker table and hopes for good cards.

Russian NT 2017

Voronkova was the biggest delight for me this WGP, of any team. I never saw her before. She hits like a beast but isn't limited to that role. She receives well and seems comfortable at any place on the court. Surprisingly quick for someone built like that.

Japanese NT 2017

Quoted from "volley_crepe" Not quite the same feeling, but personally right now all of the Japanese's OH gives me nervous. Did you see Shinnabe's cross court shot from Zone 2 a handful of points into the third set against Russia? It went practically parallel to the net. That was a jaw dropper. Beautiful. Smart hitting

Women's World Grand Prix 2017

Quoted from "ST2008" Don't forget the Japanese NT won the Olympic gold medal by beating the Soviet (tall players) in 1976. I agree that it won't be easy for the "shorter" players team to win gold medals. But it's possible. I think the strategy is they need to be very dynamic and win the 3 sets strait as fast as possible. Because shorter players need to jump higher and they get tired much faster. So they need to win the game before they get tired. I believe it's the other way around. Japan holds...

Women's World Grand Prix 2017

Quoted from "ossubtus" Quoted from "sitenoise" Quoted from "ossubtus" pleumjit unstoppable in the middle... crazy how the biggest block in the world can't stop a woman who's only 180 cm. (speaking generally, not that ITA has the biggest block.) This is what I'm rooting for. It's not crazy. You don't have to be tall or jump high to beat a big lumbering clod to open space. I will dream on! i think you want to live in a world where height doesn't matter, but i don't think that's reality ... the da...

Women's World Grand Prix 2017

Quoted from "Sisko95" Quoted from "sitenoise" I don't know how to judge a setter's setting abilities Basically you have to look at precision, deception and athleticism. What I mean by athleticism is how well she can save bad passes (too high, too low, too quick, etc.) and still set attackable balls for her hitters. Precision is simply how accurate her sets are, so how easy it is for the spiker to attack the ball as she wants to. Deception is how well she can trick the blockers of the other team...

Women's World Grand Prix 2017

Quoted from "samsara" Sorry to say it out bluntly, both JPN & THA teams have not beat any of the major teams (BRA CHN USA SRB) in any "big" match that really matters Yes, I'm aware of that. My point is ... if they want beat those teams they shouldn't try to beat them by getting better at the game those other teams play. They need to throw another game at them. And they are doing that. They're just not good enough yet. I know analogies don't work, don't explain things, but ... Ten years ago, and...

Women's World Grand Prix 2017

Quoted from "akitoakie" just finished watching the replay of JPN VS RUS and all I can say is SNOOZE-FEST. this is like the worst Japan's game throughout the entire tournament although they managed to win. I wouldn't call it a snooze-fest, but I did post this to the Japan NT thread last night: Quoted That game last night against Russia, while wonderful in so many ways--almost everyone stepped up beyond imagination on individual offense--was one of the worst games I've ever seen almost any Japane...

Quoted from "beri" Turkish finally showed their immaturity in the end. Sure Japan played good too but I feel like Turkey could have already finished the match by now if they focused more... yeah, if you know the Turkish team I'm sure you can see where/when they start to lose focus

This Turkish team looks good. I don't know anyone on it but they seem mature, and whatnot.
