Comparison of Strength of European Leagues

I think Russian league is indeed not valued enough by many now, despite it is mostly about Moscow and Kazan, of course. But the teams immediately behind are pretty good too, this season also Krasnoyarsk and as always Ekaterinburg should not be taken easy by any opponents, while Krasnodar couldn't keep many players and their previous level, but in Challenge Cup they should not underestimated. There are many very good players in Russia, so they don't need many foreigners to strenghten teams like m...

Comparison of Strength of European Leagues

Quoted from "beri" My personal ranking: 1. Turkey (top 4 is out of this world, and there are even more competitive teams this season. At least 8-10) 2. Italy (top teams are really strong and others are quite balanced) 3. Russia (Russians have good local players and top teams are strong) 4. Germany + Poland (Both are similar difference for me is that German league keeps growing while Poland gets worse over years hope that changes. 6. France+Switzerland+Azerbaijan (I watched some matches last sea...

Comparison of Strength of European Leagues

This is to offer a thread aside from the special league threads to discuss those inter-league relations. I begin with my current personal view and compare it with the last published European Cups ranking: 1. Turkey 2. Russia and Italy 4. Poland and Germany 6. France and Romania It is important, to keep several facts in mind: the broadth of quality of a league vastly differs, i.e. relation of best to weakest teams in a league can be an huge or a small difference. My proposal above is difficult in...

European Championship 2017 Azerbaijan&Georgia

I guess this German NT can be 5th to 8th place in the competition, any one better or even a medal would surprise me. Despite a lot of injury issues of Serbian team, they are considered as one of the favorites together with Russia, Italy, Netherlands and Turkey.

CEV Champions League 2018

One of the three ridiculous feeble teams, which should not be accepted by CEV IMHO to play in this competition, has as first published its roster on CEV website: Sliedrecht (NED) to be found here http://www.cev.lu/Competition-Area/Compe…D=10597&ID=1036 . They have indeed 18 players entered like one of the big Istanbul clubs, but all of them have to be considered not to be up to this task and will likely not win any set in opening round against Asterix (BEL). The other two extremely weak teams ar...

CEV Champions League 2018

Quoted from "Meatballs" According to head of Turkish Federation, Galatasaray already applied for hosting F4 in Istanbul! Although I support GS, I don't like the idea. They did the same many years ago when they were in Champions League and it didnt work out well since they didnt play F6 round. However I guess both Vakifbank and GS will be in F4 anyway, so it won't be surprising if it is in Istanbul. This seems indeed premature to me, but of course there will be enough (likely all three) Istanbul...

CEV Champions League 2018

An interesting press release by Asterix AVO BEVEREN (formerly KIELDRECHT) of Belgium: they have a new hall for this season, conforming to CL demands, want to give the many young players another set of demanding experiences and hope to make all of the team even more professional. So the hall may have been the main show stopper the last years, when they already qualified several times formerly to participate in CL, but didn't book it. Practically they should have no problem with Sliedrecht (NED) i...

Germany - VBL 1. Bundesliga 2017/2018

Kind of breakthrough: 10 matches of the league round will be aired by German TV station Sport1 in free TV in this season - for the first time ever a non-regional TV station does so in Germany (only women's league, it seems, probably because it is more balanced and the ball can be easier seen as in men's league, aside from longer rallies). I wonder, if there was no money paid to Sport1? Because usually the clubs and the league have to pay for getting streams produced and aired in Germany. Anyway,...

Schwerin completes the roster of now 13 players like last season: the 26 year old Croation middle and national Beta Dumančić is the last player they hired so far. She played for Pila in Polish Orlen League and before that in Czech Extra league for Olomouc (Olmütz).

Women's World Grand Champions Cup 2017

ECH is simply the best and most-balanced NT competition aside from the major FIVB tournaments Olympics, World Championship and World Cup. Despite they can no more gain FIVB world ranking points there, this is one of the primary tournaments for any European NT and always interesting, because of the many good teams in Europe. Maybe you can't imagine this in NORCECA, South America and even Asia (not to mention the lousy African federation, sorry), because there are too few good teams to make the co...

Men's European Championship 2017

If our German NT wins "just" a set against this Russian NT, I would be impressed very much. Betting quotes are about 5.5 for Russia against 1.12 for Germany, which means also no realistic chance for the first time finalists with many-years Russian superleague member Georg Grozer... (next season playing for Novosibirsk, some years ago several years in a row for Belgorod).

Azerbaijani Superleague???

Quoted from "carlandrea.korotenko" Hi everyone, does anybody know something more about 2017/2018 women's superleague in Azerbaijan?? I heard some rumors about an imminent collapse... is that true?? This could well be the case. Look, there are just two teams remaining in a state, in which they could compete, far to few, to create a league with true competition. Even the last years one or more junior teams added to the at last just three to four serious contenders. Azerrail BAKU is currently the ...

Germany - VBL 1. Bundesliga 2017/2018

Funnily Stuttgart played a test match in Burladingen (extreme Swabian countryside) against a local regional team (i.e. fourth league!) from there, and the last were happy only to lose one set in the one-digit area ( 8 ), despite Stuttgart lacked four nationals preparing for the European championships (NED: Stoltenborg, Daalderop, CZE: Mlejnková, SRB: Pusic). There will be a friendly of Stuttgart against Wiesbaden in Herxheim (Südliche Weinstr., RLP), which lacks also some nationals at this time,...

2018 FIVB World Championship - Japan

Quoted from "ossubtus" Quoted from "pappi" Bulgaria walked over Belgium by an absolutely convincing 3-0 !!! Congratulations to Vasileva, Ruseva, Dimitrova, Simeonova, Nenova..... Now, all 8 european vacancies are finally determined: AZE, BUL, GER, ITA, NED, RUS, SRB, TUR wow. that's exactly the same 8 teams in 2014, except for NED instead of BEL! unless i missed someone (were there 9 euro teams 3 years ago?)... how barely things change. GER got really lucky in this Q... The teams emerged as par...

FIVB Women's U18 World Championship - Argentina

Quoted from "rbdfabio" What a nice upset, Dominican Republic will be playing for Gold. It's really hard to believe: the DomRep played all but sensational in the group phase, but kind of exploded in the ko phase, and eliminated top favorite Russia in just three sets. That is an unexpected and interesting final against Italy, despite the last are favorites, nothing is sure...

FIVB Women's U18 World Championship - Argentina

Quoted from "Matthias" Wow, German girls surprisingly reach quarterfinals after their 4th consecutive tie-break match OH Emma Cyris with 31 pts and over 50% in attack That was really good, again with great fighting spirit, but this will not suffice against Turkey, one of the top favorites of the competition. Anyway, a place in the range of 5 to 8 is nothing we are allowed to complain about .

Germany - VBL 1. Bundesliga 2017/2018

Quoted from "Matthias" Quoted from "StefanS" So far I know, at least the following kind and number of players are to be hired by teams: Schwerin: one middle and one OH Vilsbiburg: one OH Potsdam: one OPP/OH (or for both) The other 10 professional team rosters are either complete or may consider one more in some cases (tbc). Schwerin has found their missing OH already with Jelena Oluic. Potsdam still needs a 3rd middle and I don't think they'll sign another wing hitter. Erfurt definitely needs a...
