Russian Superleague 2017/2018

Although he got appointed as an assistant to Gennagy Shipulin (as all his recent ancestors in Belgorod), Gheorghe Cretu sat on the bench as a head coach for today's match versus Zenit St. Petersburg. We know how it goes over there, powsoff described the situation pretty well. It means that Belogorie hired a full-time, experienced coach. He may not be a big name, but it is an upgrade to the experiment that had been going for some time. I could only watch the last set of the match tonight and I sa...

Men's Club World Championship 2017

Pool A is stronger indeed. But not because of Shanghai, but rather because of Skra in Pool B And Cruzeiro in A, of course. However, if Shanghai do show up with Lyneel and Conte, things will get interesting. This might turn out to be one of the best, if not the best, World Club Championship we've had in a while. Still, I find it a bit unfair that there is no North American team here. Yeah, I know, popularity and drama and class and stuff.

Men's World Grand Champions Cup 2017

Quoted from "ossubtus" wow. vettori got an ace in first set when he clearly foot-faulted but JPN coach didn't bother to challenge it even though players were calling out the foot-fault. I thought the same, too! And I remember the Chinese NT head coach during the 2014 WCH seemed to refuse to use the video challenge system no matter how appropriate it could have been on a number of occasions. This is one of the impressions I got while watching Asian teams compete in intercontinental events. Is it...

2017 - 2018 transfer rumours

Quoted from "TheDiplomat" Does anyone know where the following players will play this year: Marcus Bohme, Armin Mustedanovic, Ndo Mote, Michael Brinkley, Eric Fitterer, Maksim Zhigalov and Maksim Buculjevic? Zhigalov came in as a substitute for Belogorie against Fakel over the weekend. No info about the rest, though. Some might have extended their contracts with their respective teams.

Tokyo 2020 Qualification rules

Quoted from "saishuu" Quoted from "rbdfabio" I think the Olympics should have the Host plus the TOP 11 best teams, I don`t care if they are all from Europe, America or Asia, if the 11 teams happens to be all from the same continent, so be it. The Olympics is not hosted by FIVB, which means it is not like the WCH or any other event where it is nice and smart to have countries from all over to attract sponsors and fans. If WL/GP does not have continental spot, why would the most important tournam...

Russian Superleague 2017/2018

Quoted from "powsoff" Quoted from "YavorD" Ok, so I opened the stats sheet from Belogorie's game, played a day later than the rest, and I was shocked to find out that Grankin had signed with Shipulin's team How, when, and why? powsoff, we need you. I am wondering how I missed probably the biggest internal transfer in Russia this summer. I saw both Antipkin and Strilchuk in action for Dinamo against Zenit SP and thought that Grankin had been given a few days rest. Although all the other NT membe...

Men's World Grand Champions Cup 2017

Quoted from "Kk15" Quoted from "YavorD" I have always thought that Lanza won't know what to do if there are no blockers (respectively, fingers and hands) against him True Unless we're talking about the pipe Of course, I was talking about his first-line attack in general. The Italian, and also his, pipes work great!

Men's World Grand Champions Cup 2017

Itay vs. Iran wasn't technically a great match but it was a very entertaining one. It would appeal to those who like longer rallies, both teams dug a lot in defence and struggled at times in attack. A lot of unforced errors, but also a good game overall for both setters. Although Marouf kind of blacked out in the middle of the 4th set, committing two brutal mistakes in a row, he may have won the "battle" with Giannelli. If you think about it, we can find a lot of similarities between this Italia...

Men's European Championship 2017

Quoted from "rbdfabio" Quoted from "YavorD" Quoted from "rbdfabio" Quoted from "dragon" The most boring Ech ever......none of the team are playing at their optimal level, maybe Germany is closest to its best form. It's rare for me to find a 5-set match boring. For the individual awards, yes Kaliberda is playing good but I think Kovacevic deserved the award more as he really played a pivotal role in his team. Grankin is doing an excellent job except the final but Kampa is the second-most importa...

CEV Men’s European Championship 2019 - hosts France, Slovenia, Belgium and the Netherlands

If I did the Math correctly, Russia, Germany, Serbia, Italy, Bulgaria, the Czech Rep., Poland, and Turkey, alongside the 4 hosts - France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Slovenia, should have already secured berths at the 2019 ECH.

Men's European Championship 2017

Quoted from "TimHH" But in the end, most important thing is that we saw a great development with the German team in almost any volleyball related aspect and it is obvious that good work had been done in the training gym. This, in the end, is what defines a good coach more than his language skills. I think we completely agree on this. We do, that's not something I was arguing about. I favour the part when it is better to be able to communicate and I think it is absolutely essential, but I was ra...

Men's European Championship 2017

Let me start by congratulating the winners but also the Germans because they actually stole the party on a number of occasions last night. There were a lot of mistakes in the final and it is the most natural thing in a game of such importance and length. But as it is often the case in (professional) volleyball, the more the mistakes and the pressure in a final, the more drama there is. It was a very long and entertaining final and it fit this ECH perfectly. A lot of you complained about the leve...

Men's European Championship 2017

Quoted from "Kaziyski" Choke... No OPP contribution today. Germany fought hard, believed and didnt give up. Giani deserves praise. IMO Grbić won't extend contract with Serbia after this ECH... Well, we talked about chokers 3 days ago and look how things change And we were all sure Russia wouldn't drop a set after the Belgian massacre but who would've bet on that drama last night? Quoted from "Kaziyski" Quoted from "Leonardo.D" Quoted from "Kk15" Quoted from "Rains_of_Castamere" Is Atanasijevic ...

Quoted from "Kaziyski" Quoted from "bella" High level of emotions as expected in games like this, I mean between two balkan teams still I need more heart from Bulgaria, come on you guys, don't be such kids. Хайде! Only Serbia Serbians aer Bulgaria's black cats, simply they can lose against them Quoted from "Leonardo.D" And once again Bulgaria chokes...I really didnt expect a 3-0 in this match. Bulgaria could have arrived at least to a fourth set. Too many advantages lost. Bulgaria = Poland in m...

Men's European Championship 2017

Let me jump in with a few sentences about Bulgaria. I watched their match very closely and I saw the usual weaknesses. Finland played very patiently and smart during the first two sets, used the hands of the tall block pretty well, Tervaportti grew his confidence as the match progressed, the team served float and placed the ball where they had in order to create trouble and it would have SURELY ended with them winning had it been the old Finnish NT with the more experienced players. The squad th...

Men's European Championship 2017

Quoted I'm very dissappointed by Turkey's performance but at the same time happy for Italy. They are showing they can still be a force without Juantorena and Zaytsev. I think exclusion of Zaytsev and support of the fans made very positive impact on the team. At this point it will be hard to reunite with him. There is a sports saying that a team, in any game, should never underestimate the Italian and the German NTs, regardless of age and form. It goes way further into psychology, characteristic...
