Turkey- VVSL-Vestel Venus Women's League 2017/2018

Last club season ECZ lost to Vakif how many times in a row? 9 or 10?

Last seasons last season, this is the new year. If it turns out that Zhu's injury is chronic and this is the level she will play at through out the season then Vakif may be at risk to not qualify for CL. I'm not sure that robinson is strong enough to carry the team against the stronger second tier teams which would limit Zhu's rest periods. If Gala can sort out Koshe and get her back to a high level of attack w...

Turkey- VVSL-Vestel Venus Women's League 2017/2018

Of course this is the Club season and not NT season and everyone knows that Bosko and Zhu are the keys to their teams success. Today Bosko completely out delivered for her team. If Zhu's injury is chronic then Vakif will certainly struggle this year in CL against Imoco and Novara especially as it seems that Robinson is a downgrade from Hill.

Turkey- VVSL-Vestel Venus Women's League 2017/2018

Can someone confirm that this season CL eligibility will be decided by position in the regular league standings and not by the end of season playoffs?

Turkey- VVSL-Vestel Venus Women's League 2017/2018

By USA measurement standards, hitting efficiency, (attacks divided by the sum kills minus errors and blocks) Zhu was 0/22. She had 5 kills with 5 errors for a hitting efficiency of zero. By comparison Bosko was at 50% at 16/32. By the time Zhu came back in to the front row it was already 20-9 and Vakif had only one complete rotation with Zhu never getting back to the front. That last set reminds me of last years incredible comeback by Vaki's subs against ECZ which seemed to break ECZ after their...

Italy - Serie A1 2017/18

Hill was 23/44 for 52% attack and 44% efficiency. That's a lot more swings that she ever got at Vakif once Zhu arrived. Plus she was 80% positive on receive so overall a very solid performance from her. Easy's injury looked pretty serious as she was putting no weight on her foot when they helped her off the court and she went immediately to the locker room. Fortunately they have Bricio but this will certainly affect their depth. Rewatched Easy's injury and it was a non impact event. She was just...

Italy - Serie A1 2017/18

What are the best ways to watch Series A1 from the USA. I'm shifting from the Turkish league this year and am excited by the influx of top players into Italy for 2017. I particularly want to watch Imoco. Do they broadcast all their own games? That's what was great about Vakif last year.

Turkey- VVSL-Vestel Venus Women's League 2017/2018

I guess there will be no new American players coming to Turkey in the near term. Maybe Kim HIll's decision to leave for Italy seems not so self serving now. If US Turkey relations continue to deteriorate the American volleyball players will be large visible targets for retaliation. From the Bloomburg News: The U.S. and Turkey each suspended visa services for citizens looking to visit the other country, a sharp escalation of a diplomatic spat that sent the lira down more than 6 percent against th...

Series A1 schedule calendar for 2017/18? Is it available yet? When does it usually get published. I have a chance to be in Italy in late November and recollect that the season will just be starting. Thanks

2017 / 2018 Transfer News

Is this for real? I don't trust anything on volleytalk anymore. Any source? Geddy is a very reliable source about this stuff since he works in LA area (what's your occupation again, Geddy? haha..) so I would believe him. Disappointing news, but she's had a great career, from being a walk on at UCLA, to leading the nation in points and kills her senior year, and bursting onto the national team scene a year before the olympics. Perhaps she might change her mind closer to the olympics (2019?) and g...

2017 / 2018 Transfer Rumors & Discussion

Lest we forget that last year with Kim Hill in the starting lineup for the Turkish League VAkif won the gold and she MVP'ed something that didn't happen this year with Zhu. They also got to the CL finals but lost to Pomi. Unfortunately the CWC's were delayed by the Olympics and played in the fall when the teams had already drastically changed. Zhu no doubt is a great player but her presence does not guarantee success as we saw losses to FB for the Turkish Cup, mid season and to Gala in the semi'...

Women's Club World Championship 2017

At Novara she played as an OH with Hill and Barun was the opposite. That was the first year back from her injury and her PED suspension. Novara unexpectedly ran the table that year and lost the Scudetto in the fifth set against Pomi. It was a huge success for Novara and Hill's play was a spring board for her move to Vakif and Klineman went to Brazil.

Women's Club World Championship 2017

Klineman along with Hooker was recently named to the Brazilian all-star first team. Klineman as a receiver is in the same class as Hodge. The big difference is that she has never been a big fan of Karch and has not needed the NT exposure to land big contracts. I think she saw clearly and early on that she could play every summer for the NT and still end up like Faucett and be left home for a cheer leader. Klineman is a lot like Hooker and Tom in her personality. She's successful at what she does...

Women's Club World Championship 2017

Vakif didn't unexpectantly lose in the Turkish League semi-finals. They played without Rasic who was injured for both games and her sub was a dramatically lower quality player. It showed that when it comes to the Turkish League with their 3 foreigner limit that the worlds best MB was a bigger loss then say Zhu as the best OH. You can only play 2 OH's at a time and it was more consequential not to have Rasic then to say have Hill instead of Zhu. One of the things VB gave up to sign Zhu was Robin ...

Women's Club World Championship 2017

Just a reminder regarding some of your conclusions. The loss to Gala shows the importance of Rasic as one of the best MB's in world. She missed both of those games due to injury. With Rasic VB probably would have swept every major medal. The difference between the very best teams is very small and the littlest changes can have large consequences. Rexona was in every set against VB right up to the end of each. VB has a harder time replacing Rasic then Zhu. You might recall that last year VB playe...

Women's Club World Championship 2017

Vakif kept their starting rotation from last year replacing only Robin and Bujis with Zhu. By the end of the season Bujis was a bench player just as she has now become in Rexona. Once again her questionable reception has bumped her from being a regular rotation player. There are very few players of Hill's quality who would be content to only play part of the season, CL and CWC, as the three foreigner rule keeps her off the floor during the Turkish League season. Hill's primary motivation is bein...

Women's Club World Championship 2017

Gabi and Kim Hill both had their break out NT seasons in 2013. At that time during the Brazil vs USA summer matches Gabi showed a higher level of play. Obviously Hill has had greater success since but you have to love Gabi's exuberant play and that big arm swing. If Gabi had even just a few of Kim Hill's inches she would be one of the top OH's in the world. She still is a great club player but her size really creates a negative against the really good tall blocking national teams which has limit...

2017 / 2018 Transfer Rumors & Discussion

The one skill that you left out is the serving skill which is very important at the highest level. Serving skill: Hill-Larson-Robinson-Hodge. The question regarding Hill is whether you have the Guidetti/Hill or the Karche/Hill. If you have the Guidetti/HIll then I would right now choose her over both Larson and Robinson as OH 2 with Hodge functioning as OH 1 although I haven't seen Hodge this year to evaluate how she is playing. The karche/HIll is an enigma. One game, say the Dutch bronze match ...
