Russian Superleague 2017/2018

Well, I also won't rule out some backstage games, especially when one company has a few teams in the league, but facts are facts. Zenit's rejects beat Zenit We've discussed Dinamo Moscow's problems, now they seem to have scored some important wins in a row and to approach the top 4 spots. And they still used an OH (Kooy) as a MB until recently! Fakel and Kuzbass are obvious, Nova has been indeed the team to talk about lately. However, I would like to briefly discuss Lokomotiv Novosibirsk with po...

France - Ligue Nationale de Volley 2017-18

As it often happens when lesser teams reach to finals, championship titles or European participation, they usually suffer the following season. Be it for selling key players or just lacking the experience needed to handle the number of games and expectations. Whereas Chaumont has been a factor in French volleyball for some years now and not just a temporary phenomenon, hence I am really looking forward to their CL performances, Toulouse is obivously suffering from the syndrome. Almost absent in ...

USA - NVA (National Volleyball Association)

Quoted from "tomen" Quoted from "beri" Yaas, now we need a women's league! I feel that the reason why men's league is first is that USA people prefer women's league to men's one. It is an "experiment". I thought so, too But it doesn't matter right now, it's been in the air for so long that any experiment is worth the try. Let's see how the schedule and the format are going to look like, the website is also under construction. The one thing that bothers me is that it will never be taken seriousl...

2017 - 2018 transfer rumours

Is there something wrong with Franciskovic? Because I just read that Chono Penchev, the setter, signed with Modena.

2017 - 2018 transfer news

Quoted from "Ozkan Celebi" Velizar Chernokozhev zu Halkbank Ankara. The only official thing here is that he is on a try-out with the team. Halkbank haven't made a decision yet, as far as I know.

CEV Champions League 2018

Quoted from "scarpetta" Group A must be the strongest group in CEV history Not a chance! We had Zenit Kazan, Lube, Lokomotiv Novosibirsk, and Posojilnica some seasons ago. As well as Lokomotiv Belgorod, Iraklis, Lube, and Dukla in another season.

CEV Champions League 2018

If one day we start discussing the (lack of) popularity of volleyball again or if you get asked by your friends or relatives about the same topic and why such a nice game, widely played for fun across the globe, doesn't get the recognition and financial prowess it might have had, show them the video with the draw in Moscow today. Or the draw organized by the inadequate Bulgarian federation for the ECH back in 2015. Or tell them about the comic governing bodies. It would be quite illustrious and ...

CEV Champions League 2018

Quoted from "TimHH" Quoted from "YavorD" About the two teams. I don't have super recent news about VfB, I only know that their summer signing, one of the few Bulgarian talents Martin Atanasov, got injured relatively seriously and had to end his contract with Friedrichshafen. I think all other players arrived in Bulgaria and should play. I am curious about Takvam's position tonight as Heynen has been experimenting lately. Neftochimik, on the other side, has two injured players (the MB Petkov and...

Men's World Championship 2018

So, the list of participants is complete. Slovenia is the only debutant. I found the qualifiers in North America kind of funny. The first round didn't feature all teams and wasn't postponed regardless of the tragedy, the second round got decided by a few points. A full pack of 3-0s in Cuba where Mexico missed their second opportunity to make it to the WCH. The hosts seemed on the verge of losing the ticket but a very "comfortable" 3-0 win on the last day against a probably not quite motivated Pu...

CEV Champions League 2018

Let's see how prepared Neftochimik are to create some trouble for Heynen's Friedrichshafen. The Germans are clearly the better side, of course, the hosts will rely on some home support, it's been a trademark at least for Neftochimik (and most Bulgarian teams) in the rare European games we've had in Bourgas. This is their first Champions League participation, however, and I hope the younger players won't crack. One positive side of that encounter is that, unlike many volleyball matches and tourna...

Russian Superleague 2017/2018

Quoted from "powsoff" Quoted from "YavorD" What is going on in Moscow? This is the weakest Dinamo I can remember. Not on paper, but in terms of form and results. I refuse to believe it is only due to Grankin's departure, they still have enough quality to have avoided some of the home defeats in the league. And on top of that came the 3 defeats for the Cup I would argue of course that Dinamo had a difficult group in the Cup semis but feels like the KGB glorious owners of Dinamo Moscow read your ...

Italy – Superlega 2017/2018

Quoted from "Kk15" Abdel Aziz amazing service run: from 10-16 to 17-16, 3 aces, 2 free ball earned, and the last point is a masterpiece https://youtu.be/D0SWqe0sD-c I have the impression De Pandis was too advanced inside the court while receiving... Lorenzetti didn't take a single time-out??? Really? Kudos to Abdel-Aziz, of course, but the coach should take some blame for sure.

Other European leagues 2017-2018

After surprisingly (or maybe not that much) losing the Montenegrin title last season for the first time in years, Budvanska Rivijera Budva ceased its existence The official reason was the financial inability to maintain the team. We remember some mysterious foreigners playing for the club in the past 2 years, I don't know, though, if it has (in)directly led to the outcome.

Brazilian Superliga 2017-2018

Monstrous first-round stats for JF Volei's OH Leonardo Nascimento. He received most of the time for his team, finished with 63% in attack, 4 blocks, and 32 points. Impressive! He's only 22, right? I will look forward to watching him, had never heard of him before.

CEV Champions League 2018

The Champions League is underway with the first qualifying matches. As expected, the most interesting encounter in the 2nd round is between Maccabi Tel-Aviv and Shakhtior Soligorsk. 32 points from an OH is impressive even nowadays, let alone from an almost 38-year-old player. It's inspiring what Leo Dos Santos, a former CL particpiant with Unterhaching, Zalau, and Tirol, could do at this age.

Germany - Volleyball Bundesliga (VBL) 2017/18

I am kind of out of the world right now and I could only follow stats these last few days. Berlin's dreadful start is worth talking about, although we have to admit that their first two matches in the season were against difficult opponents. Dueren should create trouble this campaign. Who knows, after many recent attempts by Moculescu and last year by Heynen, perhaps the time has finally come to see a new champion in Germany. It's way too early now, of course. United Volleys also look well on pa...

Men's World Championship 2018

Quoted from "serdar" The whole formula is just to be sure that hosts can reach to semis The possibility of getting surprise results is the part that makes WCh interesting, that's why they should have stick to Quarterfinals and even better, to final 16 The whole formula exists to ensure there are as many games as possible, unfortunately. If the hosts want to cheat, they will fix the draw, not the formula. Reference - Italy at the home men's WCH in 2010. This time Italy is hosting again but not a...
