2018 FIVB World Championship - Japan

This is not a conspiracy on the pools. The FIVB changed the seeding to only host +top 7 teams. Last two tournaments it was host + top 11. I think that the extra row gave the tournament a little more randomness. The tournament has always had the teams carry their results from the first round with the teams that advanced. With only 3 teams advancing from the second round, you have to win matches against the other pool from the first round. Japan in 2010 as hosts lost their first match of the secon...

Japan - V.Premier League 2017-2018

My responses to numbers 5. Hitachi is not even close to being as bad as their W-L would indicate Really beg to differ. Worst points ratio in the league, they are -2.6 points per set to their opponents (using 48 point sets). 3 teams are within 7 points of even (1.000), Toray, Denso and NEC. That means you are a .500 team. Hisamitsu is 4.85 points per set ahead of every one. JT at 1.14 is 2nd best. Right now, now one will catch Hisamitsu. 7. If NEC wanted to win games they would play Shimamura ins...

Japan - V.Premier League 2017-2018

Quoted from "sitenoise" The Empress's Cup, whatever that is, is played around xmas. It is a single elimination tournament that is open to prefectural winners (which can be a high school, university or company team) and the top level professional teams. This tournament is similar to the FA cup in England (which started all of these "open" cup competitions). The teams that win the prefecture tournaments then get to a "Block tournament" which groups them into regions and then the regional winners a...

Men's World Championship 2018

I went through the last 4 years pool by pool to look at whether the teams had played each other and what we can potentially expect. Yes, some of the players have changed, but what are some surprising things from the data and then who do I think will win each pool? Last 4 Years Results Analysis by Pool

Japan - V.Premier League 2017-2018

What you think is “satay” is actually Shatai. In Japanese Toyota Auto Body is pronounced Toyota Shatai. The announcers say Shatai to not confuse people with Toyota Gosei on the men’s side. They could just stick with Toyota as the it says in the graphics, but Shatai may be included there as well. Also the emphasis on syllables depends on pictographs. In romanized Japanese you can’t see where a new pictographs begins.

USA NT 2017

Karch was the assistant coach in 2012. He knows what the issues are with her and how other players feel about her. He chooses not to use her. If he is not the coach, then you can argue that she should be in the team. When they won the World Championships she was not on the team.

Quoted from "crovolley" Destinee Hooker is still showing that She is the best opp that USA NT has. Destinee's road has traveled with the NT. Karsta Lowe would like to come back, but she is getting her grad degree right now (she was interviewed on The Net Live podcast). Karch has said to here that the door is always open. It may be 3 years before she's back though.

Men's World Championship 2018

NORCECA tournament was already scheduled with all of the teams. They could not change the dates to include Cuba and Puerto Rico because there was no timetable as to when they would be ready. Both teams were higher seeds due to NORCECA ranking system and therefore the Confederation wants to make sure that it's best teams were going to the World Championships.

Women's World Grand Champions Cup 2017

The main reasoning for this tournament is to make sure that the Japanese federation and television networks are part of the FIVB program every year. Actually this one is second on the list. The real reason is like Fabio said, it is to have a single "major" tournament every year in the four year cycle. 1st Year, Grand Champions Cup 2nd Year, World Championships 3rd Year, World Cup 4th Year, Olympics I would say that this tournament is not as important as the other three.
