Russian Superleague 2017/2018

I want to continue the discussion about the Russian league here because the transfers section will soon get flooded with no real transfers news What are the rumours in Russia regarding Konstantinov's future? If you read my post from the end of November, we will see that not much has really changed at Lokomotiv's side. Also, based on powsoff's post, I have to say that for the first time I hear about Grozer having problems with a coach anywhere. Pavlov is Kontantinov's favourite, Zhigalov will sur...

FIVB World Championship 2019

Neighboring Germany takes the torch from Austria as the northern port of Hamburg will host the 2019 World Championship. Source. Germany will host the Worlds for the second time in history, Berlin had the previous honour back in 2005. A lot will happen until then, but who knows, maybe finally a good reason to visit Tim in Hamburg Or even earlier for the World Tour Finals this year!

FIVB World Tour 2018

Just like last year, the 2018 World Tour actually started already in September last year with some minor tournaments. We saw some better teams at the 3-star Qinzhou Open in China in October. The surprising winners back then were Sivolap-Velichko from Russia. The first real test was quite early in 2018. The indoor beach courts in the Hague, the Netherlands, hosted the first 4-star event. The newly formed Latvian team Plavins-Tocs enjoyed a brilliant tournament, showed really impressive beach voll...

Poland - PlusLiga 2017/18

Any comments/opinion on Mark Lebedew's dismissal at Jastrzebski? As far as I know, the lack of satisfactory results has been mentioned as official reason. I guess mostly Jastrzebski's current PlusLiga position has been taken into account. I understand they might also be disappointed by the Cup elimination in Warsaw, but it was a tough opponent, to be fair. Jastrzebski's CL campaign still looks OK, they should be able to make it to the CL play-offs. I know Polish directors are perhaps a bit impat...

CEV Champions League 2018

Ah, even when they seem to have a theoretically weaker or rather unimpressive squad, Noliko should never be underestimated. One of the clubs with such a huge CL background that just belong to that tournament. I couldn't watch the entire match and I can't say why ZAKSA failed miserably again, but it was a typical Noliko display at the other side of the field based on what I saw - a lot of determination, technical plays (due to a relative lack of tall, powerful spikers), rallies, plus a brilliant ...

Survey: best line-up ever among Men's club

Quoted from "Mamdani" Quoted from "YavorD" Quoted from "Mamdani" Quoted from "scarpetta" Ravenna 90-91 looks unreal Not as much as Parma, Treviso and Modena IMHO, because in Ravenna there are Margutti and Masciarelli (good players, but not top ones) This is exactly the reason why I can't consider Zenit Kazan the best team ever. Their middles aren't spectacular, especially Gutsalyuk. A great list you have created, by the way! I would only add Sada Cruzeiro's line-up in the period 2015-2016. Will...

2018 CEV U18 European Championship

The Czech Republic and Slovakia will host the finals of the U18 ECH this year. Over the weekend we've had the qualifiers and the complete list of participants. Greece, Turkey, Italy, Belarus, Bulgaria, Russia, and Belgium qualified as group winners, whereas France and Germany advanced as best runner-ups. Despite the straight-set defeat to Bulgaria, France got the best points ratio (beating both the Netherlands and Sweden 3-0) among the runner-ups. Germany were lucky to have won a set at home ver...

Men's Club World Championship 2017

Quoted from "saishuu" This is the Sada I know. They're still shaky at some points, but it seems they've woken up. No, this is surely not the Cruzeiro team we had known for the past 2-3 seasons. Unfortunately, they seem to have reached their peak back then and with this roster they became very good but not amazing. And amazing is what they used to be. It will be probably more correct to say that this is the Cruzeiro side we will know from now on. William could make a difference for them and he i...

Men's Club World Championship 2017

Quoted from "sheba021" Quoted from "YavorD" I follow some of the European leagues, so I was mostly looking forward to watching the non-European teams. Thanks to a Brazilian YouTube uploader, we have access to their league and Cruzeiro's matches. Which left us with Bolivar, Shanghai, and Sarmayeh as teams whose shape/game is relatively unknown. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCD3Z8OG4d402E-pvTENePYw/featured This channel streams, among other Argentinian sports, every single game of their volley...

CEV Cup Men 2018

Although the Czech Rep. failed to qualify a team for the Champions League group phase after Ceske Budejovice got eliminated by VaLePa, all Czech teams scored wins in the European competitions. Jihostroj Ceske Budejovice, Dukla Liberec, and Kladno won their first-leg matches in the CEV Cup, whereas Brno and CEZ Karlovarsko did the same in the Challenge Cup. This says a lot about the level of the Czech league and the domestic/foreign players they have.

Men's Club World Championship 2017

What an entertaining first day already! Although, to me, this is not quite a complete World Club Championship without African and North American teams, we can't neglect the fact that this must be the best World Club Championship FIVB have organized. At least in terms of quality and participants. I follow some of the European leagues, so I was mostly looking forward to watching the non-European teams. Thanks to a Brazilian YouTube uploader, we have access to their league and Cruzeiro's matches. W...

2018 Volleyball Nations League (VNL)

Quoted from "TimHH" Quoted from "Noncommittal" CEV introduced the Golden European League that woukd be qualification for FIVB Challenger Cup. http://www.cev.lu/News.aspx?NewsID=26464&ID=5 So in order to play Nations League 2019, a european team would have to play/win a "6-leg pool stage", a final4 tournament, the FIVB challenger cup and another play-off?? I like the idea of a revivement of European League, especially with all those decent teams available, but this is overkill..... Do you know wh...

technical problems/missing posts

Quoted from "sitenoise" Quoted from "theloneracer" I can't get to my inbox. If I press "Private Messages" up above, I get the same error. That's been my experience for several weeks. I am sorry about that I can confirm the problem, I have been unable to use personal messages for over a month now. I contacted both WoltLab and Popelka (he is the license holder) but I have got no news/solution/improvement till now.

I just realized I never wrote a post here.

Quoted from "Martee" Hey Tim! Thanks for the message! I'm definitely looking forward to contributing to this forum more again. About the match on 24/2... Actually I was hesitating between this game and a Plusliga game but Poland cities are not easy to get to (compared to München which serves tons of US desitinations) and I have a friend in Innsbruck... so there we go. Sebastian Kühner is still on my list, along with Robert Kromm and Steven Marshall. I unfortunately doesn't know anyone on the ho...

2018 Volleyball Nations League (VNL)

Quoted from "garbalawal" According to Tunisia Volleyball federation, a new competition will be created in 2018: the "FIVB Men's Challenger League" with 20 teams participating. The latest FIVB news confirms it. FIVB are planning a Challenger Cup for both genders but with only 6 teams each, not 20. How and whether confederations are going to choose the participants is still unclear and rather individual.

Russian Superleague 2017/2018

After commenting on Serniotti's dismissal in Poland, let's move on to Cretu's resignation in Belgorod. One single game, lost 0-3 at home to Kuzbass in the Cup semifinal, is said to have been the reason for the coach's decision. Is there something more into this story? I downloaded the match and watched it two days ago (next comes the replay of the final, on the to-do list). Well, OK, Belogorie were absent in that semifinal. Shaky reception, non-existent block, self-destructive serves, vague atta...

Poland - PlusLiga 2017/18

I was also surprised by Serniotti's dismissal. Results may not have been in his favour indeed, but a serious team, unless finding themselves near the bottom of the table in December, won't normally fire a coach in the middle of the season. And Serniotti is a serious name, the least he deserves is some time. I don't know, however, whether there are any problems in the locker room or with him personally. To me, Resovia's squad this season isn't quite impressive and I am certain there are not many ...
