2018 CEV U18 European Championship

Congratulations to the German team, first of all! I didn't watch much of the last two days and I can't say whether the MVP was a deserved one, although the German opposite John played his role throughout the tournament, but I kind of feel happy for Simon Pfretzschner (don't try to pronounce his last name). Not because of the stats, don't get me wrong. He is a member of ASV Dachau, perhaps the oldest serious and most decorated club in south-eastern Germany and especially in Bavaria. He was part o...

European Championship 2001

Well, about 10 years after this thread got dead, I am writing here with good news On YouTube, in a channel created by one of our friends here from the forum actually, there are some matches from the tournament recorded in the Netherlands. So far, thanks to rutracker and LightMaster back then, we could watch the medal games and actions from Pool A with the hosts and Russia. Now there are finally some actions from Pool B and the non-Russian semifinal (Czech Rep. vs. Italy), too. Enjoy! France vs. ...

Russian Superleague 2017/2018

Quoted Where I would slightly divert is Belogorie's roster being the best. What bothers me is their OH selection. I think Tetyukhin missed the perfect time to retire, he can't just be super useful for a whole season. Unfortunately, I don't see how Spodobets, Semenov, and Iereshchenko would challenge Zenit for the title. Biryukov is no monster, but with him things could've been a bit brighter indeed. In my opinion, among all real title contenders, Belogorie has the weakest OHs. And I put the new...

CEV Champions League 2018

I am so pissed at Chaumont at the moment! Those guys wasted so many great opportunities at the end of both sets, let alone the unsued 24-21 advantage in the opener. Lanza's sub acted as a confidence boost for Trentino, he plays decently tonight. Now the pressure is almost gone for the Italians and, unless they demonstrate their inconsistency yet again as they have been doing all season long, the deal is done. I didn't understand the double substitution by Prandi at the end of the first set. Why ...

Russian Superleague 2017/2018

Quoted from "powsoff" Quoted from "Rains_of_Castamere" Belogorie is in big trouble. Kemerovo is definitely not the 7th seeded team with this kind of performance. Their form was heavily damaged after the russian cup final but they are stronger than the top 4-6 team when they are in good condition to play. Squad-wise, Kuzbass is within top 4. On the bench, they have people like Makarov, Apalikov, Ilinykh, Nikitin. Vasilyev (the bench opp) was among the top scorers last season. But the Podlesnykh ...

CEV European League 2018

I don't like many of FIVB's practices and yet another new format for the World (Nations) League might be surplus, but it resulted in a decent European League at least. With Belgium, Slovenia, Estonia, Czech Rep., Finland, Portugal, Slovakia, and Turkey back in business, the otherwise down-trending European League might come to life, in what seems to be the best edition we've had in years. It is a different subject whether teams should be motivated to play under the ever changing FIVB/CEV regulat...

CEV European League 2018

A new format for the 2018 European League: source. CEV now introduce two tiers - Golden League and Silver League. The two finalists of the Golden League will, unless FIVB decide otherwise again, play in the FIVB Challenger Cup alongside 4 other confederation representatives for a spot or the right to challenge (I don't know, it doesn't say) the weakest 2018 Volleyball Nations League challenger (one among Australia, Bulgaria, Canada, South Korea). Golden League Pool A Belgium Estonia Slovakia Swe...

CEV Cup Men 2018

Just a thought going back to comparing leagues. Although I really like the Italian league, it hasn't been the best one in Europe for sure in years, in my opinion. Let that sink in - Verona lost at home against Ziraatbank, Ravenna to Maliye Milli Piyango. Both Turkish clubs had just lost their quarterfinal play-offs in the domestic league, meaning that none of them will even appear in the semis in Turkey. Even if we shouldn't make corollaries based solely on two results and even if those two may ...

CEV Champions League 2018

Concerning Chaumont, their chances had been affected not that much by Boyer's absence but just as importantly by Trentino's inconsistency. Besides, Wassim Ben Tara is a highly overlooked player whom I really like. He is universal, used to play as opposite for Chaumont before and I am very happy he stepped up and used his chance against Trentino. Season 2010-2011 was the last one when a French team scored an important win giving them chances to advance to the Playoffs 6 (although Tours got elimin...

CEV Champions League 2018

Quoted from "TimHH" No clue what i shall watch. Every match seems tight at the moment I felt exactly the same last night Had to set some preferences in the end but still did it quite nerdy and watched almost all actions simultaneously (switching tabs) A great matchday in the Champions League for sure! Jastrzebski could put up some fight in the third and the fourth set at least against ZAKSA, the latter finally had Sam Deroo in the roster. But with that scoreline Jastrzebski have now a mountain ...

Russian Superleague 2017/2018

I want to continue the discussion about the Russian league here because the transfers section will soon get flooded with no real transfers news What are the rumours in Russia regarding Konstantinov's future? If you read my post from the end of November, we will see that not much has really changed at Lokomotiv's side. Also, based on powsoff's post, I have to say that for the first time I hear about Grozer having problems with a coach anywhere. Pavlov is Kontantinov's favourite, Zhigalov will sur...

FIVB World Championship 2019

Neighboring Germany takes the torch from Austria as the northern port of Hamburg will host the 2019 World Championship. Source. Germany will host the Worlds for the second time in history, Berlin had the previous honour back in 2005. A lot will happen until then, but who knows, maybe finally a good reason to visit Tim in Hamburg Or even earlier for the World Tour Finals this year!

FIVB World Tour 2018

Just like last year, the 2018 World Tour actually started already in September last year with some minor tournaments. We saw some better teams at the 3-star Qinzhou Open in China in October. The surprising winners back then were Sivolap-Velichko from Russia. The first real test was quite early in 2018. The indoor beach courts in the Hague, the Netherlands, hosted the first 4-star event. The newly formed Latvian team Plavins-Tocs enjoyed a brilliant tournament, showed really impressive beach voll...

Poland - PlusLiga 2017/18

Any comments/opinion on Mark Lebedew's dismissal at Jastrzebski? As far as I know, the lack of satisfactory results has been mentioned as official reason. I guess mostly Jastrzebski's current PlusLiga position has been taken into account. I understand they might also be disappointed by the Cup elimination in Warsaw, but it was a tough opponent, to be fair. Jastrzebski's CL campaign still looks OK, they should be able to make it to the CL play-offs. I know Polish directors are perhaps a bit impat...

CEV Champions League 2018

Ah, even when they seem to have a theoretically weaker or rather unimpressive squad, Noliko should never be underestimated. One of the clubs with such a huge CL background that just belong to that tournament. I couldn't watch the entire match and I can't say why ZAKSA failed miserably again, but it was a typical Noliko display at the other side of the field based on what I saw - a lot of determination, technical plays (due to a relative lack of tall, powerful spikers), rallies, plus a brilliant ...

Survey: best line-up ever among Men's club

Quoted from "Mamdani" Quoted from "YavorD" Quoted from "Mamdani" Quoted from "scarpetta" Ravenna 90-91 looks unreal Not as much as Parma, Treviso and Modena IMHO, because in Ravenna there are Margutti and Masciarelli (good players, but not top ones) This is exactly the reason why I can't consider Zenit Kazan the best team ever. Their middles aren't spectacular, especially Gutsalyuk. A great list you have created, by the way! I would only add Sada Cruzeiro's line-up in the period 2015-2016. Will...
