2017 / 2018 Transfer News

Quoted from "Matthias" Liu Jo Modena signs SRB MB Sladjana Eric for the rest of the season to replace Raffaela Calloni. That means no more transfer deadline on 31 January in Italy? It looks like she won't be joining Modena after all, as they "didn't honour the agreement made", whatever it means.

CEV Champions League 2018

Quoted from "USAvolleyfan" Ognjenovic for example is one of the best in the world in her possition, but her ex on the other hand was not, and yet she played in a very weak league to stay with him Come on, Teodosić was the hottest new thing in European basketball when they first got together and soon became the best playmaker in Europe. He was definitely making tons of money more than her. I do agree that she shouldn't have almost ruined her career because of him (the worst was when he moved to ...

CEV Champions League 2018

Stefana Veljković joined Chemik when Polish league was a lot stronger and the club had much bigger ambitions. She also felt good living there, so she extended her contract. Obviously things are different now, the league is not as strong, Chemik's budget appears to be lower as well as their ambitions and expectations. Her staying there had nothing to do with Lisinac, they've only been together for a year now and she had a valid contract with Chemik at the time for this season. Anyway, they've bot...

2018 FIVB Volleyball Women's Nations League

Still no official announcement from the FIVB, but there's a Wikipedia article about it with the pool composition and the schedule. It's in line with what the Russian Volleyball Federation had published earlier about the schedule of the Russian team, so I think it's trustworthy. As we can see, China is hosting a tournament in 4 out of 5 weeks. It's really unfair if you consider how much travel it's going to be involved for most of the other teams. For example, the South Korean itinerary in the la...

Italy - Serie A1 2017/18

All three sets of Firenze vs Bergamo went to distance, it's such a shame Bergamo couldn't take at least one. They had multiple SPs in both the 1st and the 2nd set. Also, it's a shame there weren't more spectators. The hall was ghastly empty. There wasn't much between the two teams, but it came down to two things: Bergamo couldn't win any of the longer rallies, which were quite a few; and Dijkema outplaying Malinov, whose inexperience really showed in this match. She basically didn't give a singl...

Italy - Serie A1 2017/18

Another very disappointing effort by Pomi. Martinez is such a liability in reception, and while we can't expect her to be an awesome digger with her height, she's not making up for it with her spiking either. Grothues is not making any difference yet. Lo Bianco runs a weird game. It seems like the only one she really trusts is Guiggi, and all the others get their sets at random, so no one can get any rhythm. It's hard to understand her choices a lot of times. Annie Drews started the match really...

Italy - Serie A1 2017/18

Quoted from "saishuu" Carlini seriously needs to step it up. One of her sets is gonna get Haak injured one day. And I'm not even gonna talk about her sets to the middles... She always has at least one completely botched set to MBs. I'm not sure I've ever seen something like that on this level of professional volleyball. They're lucky that Haak has been such a killer because their game is not fluid at all. Arighetti is basically just a decoration on the court.

Italy - Serie A1 2017/18

What's with the stat sheets? Mingardi is completely absent from Modena's stats, they apparently used 5 field players + libero Also the stats for Filottrano vs Novara (What the HELL happened there, anyway??!) look weird and not believable. Grothues did little to reverse Pomi's fortunes. They seem determined to fight for relegation, it seems. But if you have an OPP like Zago as your starter, that's your level. What a fightback for Bergamo! I really wish they could somehow salvage their season and,...

Turkey- VVSL-Vestel Venus Women's League 2017/2018

Quoted from "beri" Quoted from "JoanaBG" Is Jelena Nikolić playing on that 2nd league team? Because she's now turned to politics and is supporting the option that makes me glad she's retired from NT What do you mean exactly? What is she supporting in politics, what option? She still played for THY afaik. We're having local elections in Belgrade soon and she's a candidate for a seat in the City Assembly (and very likely to get it), so I wondered if it meant she retired from volleyball already.

Turkey- VVSL-Vestel Venus Women's League 2017/2018

Quoted from "beri" Istanbul is obv a very big metropolis with over 16 million people in it so it is as big as some countries anyway It has more people than Serbia, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina combined BTW, almost all Serbian players who have played there absolutely love it, Jelena Nikolić said it's the only place except for Belgrade where she could imagine herself settling down, Vesna Čitaković said it was the only place outside Serbia where she never felt like a foreigner, and so on. I ...

Italy - Serie A1 2017/18

Modena is such a mess. WIth all their OHs, they're still starting with Montano, and she looks like she's mentally already retired. Although, not that Pietersen did much/any better, but at least she has the excuse of just having arrived. Bosetti sucked too. Barun is trying really hard, but she looks past it physcially, which is more than understandable at her age. On the other side, a shout-out to the young 19-year old MB Alexandra Botezat! Her blocking skills are exceptional and she has a mean s...

I don't think the new club will be a powerhouse wherever they end up. The money just doesn't seem to be there anymore. The sister club Le Cannet just got a 6 point reduction for not paying its players.

CEV Champions League 2018

Meanwhile, Alba Blaj beat Developres 3-0 away and is now looking good to win their group. Amazing stats for Cleger - she must have certainly improved a lot compared to the previous match against Volero, where her performance was memorable mostly for her hilarious attempts at serving that made Anne Matthes' infamous ECh '11 final serve look like a technical masterpiece. I'm still annoyed Maritza vs Vizura was shown here instead of Fenerbahce vs Novara, which I was too lazy to search a stream for,...
