2018 FIVB World Championship - Japan

Quoted from "Sidney" Quoted from "pope" I wonder if the soccer World Cup has anything to do with it.... Unfortunately it does. But I agree the schedule is ridiculous. Football World Cup has already mangled FIBA competitions and schedules beyond recognition and reason. If it were to do the same to FIVB... What the hell do the people in charge of these organisations think that they could compete with football in any way, shape or form? The viewership for World Cup should simply have no bearing wh...

Turkey- VVSL-Vestel Venus Women's League 2017/2018

Quoted from "Sisko95" Quoted from "pope" Zhu vs Boskovic is just like Sheila vs Gamova.... Only difference is that Sheila and Gamova actually hated each other (as far as I know). Boskovic and Zhu certainly don`t have each other, but there`s a rivalry there and you can tell by Boskovic`s reaction when Zhu got blocked and spiked it out.... Next season CL will be great - Zhu-Boskovic-Egonu-Haak-Fabris Yeah, Boskovic and Zhu I think respect each other but they always love to beat the other one whic...

Turkey- VVSL-Vestel Venus Women's League 2017/2018

You know, this final round has made me think again of something I've been mulling about for the past year. It seems to me that Zhu Ting and Tijana Boskovic have created a volleyball version of the Leo Messi - Cristiano Ronaldo rivalry. The 2 clearly best players in the world, playing for probably the 2 strongest clubs in the world, frequently competing between themselves and duking it out, both on the club and NT level.

Serbian NT 2018

Quoted from "Sisko95" The way I see it, Serbia has a great starting 6, but they only really have any depth at MB. Bjelica isn’t reliable and Malagurski is not the player she used to be. At OH, Mihajlovic is great but Malesevic underperformed at Seramiksan and Terzic’s favourite Busa still can’t kill a ball. With no injuries Serbia should win medals this year but if one of their big hitters underperforms the whole team will be in trouble. Hit the proverbial nail right on the head. On one hand, I...

Serbian NT 2017

Quoted from "Sisko95" Quoted from "sitenoise" Forgive me a moment of which I hope you are able to read as sincere. I don't watch much Euro-volleyball but I really admire and appreciate that Serbia sits atop the volleyball world. It's a cool story. I'm new to the volleyball thing and occasionally at cocktail parties and such I will mention my newfound passion. It breaks my heart that the one and only thing* most people know about women's indoor volleyball is that picture the Serbian team took wh...

2018 FIVB World Championship - Japan

Every year it's the same story: Japanese sweet, sweet money does it's thing, and we all play-pretend we are surprised... OMG!!! Japan was really lucky there!!!

Turkey- VVSL-Vestel Venus Women's League 2017/2018

I have seen numerous posters suggest that GS should use their OPP as a serve-receiver (whether Neslihan or Kılıç or a new signing) to cover for Koshe defensively. Sorry, but that is incredible short-sighted. It's nothing more than a band-aid applied to an open abdomen wound. While that may indeed improve their defence, it would place even more pressure for Koshe to carry her team offensively, along with an occasional inspired performance by Rabadzhieva and Jack (who, btw, is herself far from her...

Turkey- VVSL-Vestel Venus Women's League 2017/2018

Quoted from "harboboy" Kosheleva just needs to be covered like in her NT and she can be the player to bring GS a cup. A foreign libero or just say a libero who receives very well and has some defense would make GS different! Maybe back in 2015, but not now. Kosheleva is no longer the player who can bring her teams to titles on the back of her offensive performance (at least not without some MAJOR help from another offensive juggernaut, and we can all agree Neslihan is no longer that).

Turkey- VVSL-Vestel Venus Women's League 2017/2018

Quoted from "crovolley" I don't think that other teams become greater I just think that top 4 teams (Only Vakif stayed on the same level) went down with their games so that is why they are putting "better" matches against them. Fener, Galat. and Ezcasibasi are weaker teams than last seasons. (Eczacibasi at end of the season was bad). Please tell me you are joking...

Quoted from "saishuu" Seems like Serbian volleyball police is once again in full force! While Fabio can indeed be a little too overzelaous, he is not wrong that one can not say with a straight face than Lazarevic has had a bad season so far, nor can anyone objective say she is her club's main problem. Do you disagree?

USA NT 2017

Quoted from "beri" I agree with crovolley on this one, ever since she left NT I have never seen anyone in US NT that could 'fill' her spot. In my opinion with Hooker in their roster US could have done better things in 2016 Olympics and I never agreed when people said Hooker wasn't really 'needed' anymore as she is still to this day one of the worlds best spikers if you ask me. She hasn't even hit 30 yet, I would be so happy if she returned. Actually, she has. As of this September, she is 30.

Serbian NT 2017

Quoted from "JoanaBG" Tijana Bošković is the European player of the year She'll be officially awarded at the CEV ceremony tonight, although she won't be able to be present and accept the award herself. As I wrote on the Turkish league thread: Any other choice would have been injustice. She was MVP of European Championship, displaying one of the most dominant performances in any single tournament by any player in this century (without Maja and Milena, and with Brankica playing subpar for her sta...

Turkey- VVSL-Vestel Venus Women's League 2017/2018

Tijana Boskovic has been named Best Player of Europe 2017: #mce_temp_url# Any other choice would have been injustice. She was MVP of European Championship, displaying one of the most dominant performances in any single tournament by any player in this century (without Maja and Milena, and with Brankica playing subpar for her standards throughout the competition, Serbia still cruised to the title with only 2 lost sets in 6 matches, and with Tijana scoring 22 points per match on average). She was ...

Tandara Caixeta and Nataliya Goncharova

A tough choice. Depends on what the rest of the team looks like. There is little doubt that Nataliya would be less efficient in the Brazilian system, and Tandara in the Russian system. I personally have a preference for Tandara, but that's just me.

Its very interesting that while Kosheleva dropped off the cliff, so to speak, form-wise right around the time meldonium became banned, Goncharova doesnt seem to be much affected by it. Does that mean she wasnt taking it, or does it simply mean that she is just that good, with or without meldonium (bear in mind that difference in age between 2 players is just 6 months)? If the second, it would confirm something which I have long suspected, and that is that Goncharova is (and will be viewed by maj...

Quoted from "Rains_of_Castamere" Quoted from "Janko" Quoted from "beri" Maybe Polen could have had a better carreer if she used meldonium like Kosheleva througout her volleyball carreer... Same for any other player really, Tatiana underneath the meldonium is never been found tbh. Its quite easy to blame Russian player's success as due to doping. Believe me, I KNOW that. As a Serbian, a thought crossed some deep part of my mind many times, of what would have happened at European Championship 201...
