2018.05.22 Volleyball Nations League (r2) NED v BEL (3-2)

Holy cow, what a fun match! Surprised how evenly matched, crescendoing in the 4th set. At 23-23 the Floor Touch Challenge obscured by a leg. Oh the Drama! Buijs chokes a serve at set point. NED won the set 31-29 but the Belgians are the ones who looked like they got better, more confident, and tried harder when things got crunchy. Composure has big value. NED took the 5th set 15-10 but it didn't look like BEL choked. It didn't even look like they lost I love this tournament. I'm considering brin...

Quoted from "JoanaBG" Quoted from "sitenoise" I also really like their MB, can't remember of her name, something-vic I think. Well, that narrows it down to... three players. I guess you mean either the pretty blonde one or the pretty dark haired one, so, which one is it? The pretty one with dark hair, speaking of hitting over the block: That picture kills me

Quoted from "Canter" of course Serbia is also a very strong team Yes! Not to take anything away from Serbia. I also really like their MB, can't remember of her name, something-vic I think. Serbian names have too many syllables and weird double-consonants to stick in my head easily.

2018 FIVB Volleyball Women's Nations League

Quoted from "Canter" Do you think their games' being less predictable due to the balls' being distributed more balancedly and fast amongst their players makes the teams like the Usa more advantageous in comparion with the teams like Serbia in which the balls more go to certain players ? You know where I come from ... that is the big question. If you aren't tall enough to have the option of hitting over the block you have to hit around it, right? In terms of the "dance" of volleyball, hitting ar...

Chinese NT 2018

Quoted from "tomen" In Week 3, Zhu Ting replaces Zhang Yi-chan Of course! They play Japan next week. Nobody plays their B-team against Japan. btw - why does everyone seem to not like Gong Xiangyu. She's not scoring a lot but I think she's playing better than Yang Fangxu. Gong has a great swing.

okay thanks. It looks like deutschland.tv missed most all of day three matches. I'm still curious ... any Germans (or others) here who actually watched any of the Day 3 matches live from deutschland.tv? That would give me hope that they may eventually become available on-demand. If they never made it to broadcast, then my hopes are dashed

2018 FIVB Volleyball Women's Nations League

Quoted from "akitoakie" this week so far THA vs POL was the most fun and interesting match to watch. Were you able to watch that one from sportdeutschland.tv? I've been unable to find that match, or the Japan v NED match in HD with english commentary.

Oh Rats. I know sportdeutschland.tv had some downtime last night, and now the day 3 games of this week have disappeared from their queue. Did anybody actually get to watch them live? So I'll know they exist? JPN v NED and THA v POL are the ones I'm interested in.

Q) - Why doesn't bad-ass 18 yr/old #3 on Belgium have to play the "youngster with potential" card that 20 yr/old Japanese player Ai Kurogo does? A) - Because she is bad-ass. Really enjoyed Britt Herbots today (even though her team lost)

FurryHat What's-his-name isn't mansplaining

I'm watching the JPN v BEL game now. Belgium looks pretty good, but Japan looks better. I can't believe it. Japan's identity is showing. Yeah, because Risa Shinnabe and Uchiseto are back and therefore reception is stabilized BUT Anybody notice that FurryHat What's-his-name didn't mansplain to the girls at timeout? At least in the first set. This is a big step in the right direction. You can see the happiness on the girls' faces. The bonding, the love, and consequently the DEFENSE. Japan must be ...

What's your Favorite Match?

@canter ask me in the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Women's Nations League thread what I thought of how Japan was doing. I grumbled. A couple others offered opinions. Saori Sakoda's name came up (my first Volleyball True Love), as did a few others from the good old days. Instead of drifting off topic there I thought I'd move to the Trash Can and put things in context of a question I've wanted to ask here for a long time: Do you have a favorite match that just gives you goosebumps when you watch it? As a ...

It's just not up yet. Same with CHN v POL. Sometimes it takes a while, but this is unusual. You can tell when it's ready if the preview image shows a length of time. I'm waiting for it too for the English commentating

2018 FIVB Volleyball Women's Nations League

Quoted from "akitoakie" I miss Kimura's presence on court. she has always been that calm queen that holds everyone together. What's interesting to me ... if you pay close attention to MB Nana Iwasaka, she's got a lot of Saori's "big smile-this is fun-I love you all" group hug action going on. I can see why she's picked as captain. She's just not a wing spiker who gets camera time and big adrenaline jumping around. It's subtle. I may have been mislead but I thought Koga was supposed to fill thos...

2018 FIVB Volleyball Women's Nations League

Quoted from "Canter" what about your fav. players from Japanese league..are you happy with their perf. so far ? I'm suicidal re: Japan's performance. Koga had one good game. Horikawa (OP) has had a couple good sets. Yuki Ishii has had some good digs and kills but overall is way sub-par. I'm confident Libero Kitoe Inoue has a hidden injury somewhere because she's playing at about 65% capacity, and she's backed up by two other Liberos who've never played at international level. I'm cool with MBs ...
