World Grand Prix 2009

    I believe I've mentioned this already in an other post, but it will be hard to get used to a WGP without Cuba and Italy.


    The teams which will take part of this tournament will be: Brazil, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and USA (representing the American continent), Poland, Russia, the Netherlands and Germany (representing the European continent) and Japan, China, Korea and Thailand (representing the Asian continent).


    I believe the teams which will fight for the title will be Brazil, the Netherlands and China. I also believe Russia will be the 4th strongest team of this tournament. Anyway, this is a long and tiring tournament, and anything can happen. But if I were to name the strongest candidates for the title in this tournament, I would say these four teams are the favourites.

    It's a shame that Poles does not play USA this year. We could get some revenge from the previous defeats. I only know 4 or 5 players from the US squad.


    Thanks for the info Bianca! It is nice to see Fernanda Garay in the roster. She was one of the besst spikers and blockers of the last season of the Superliga. I'm afraid she won't be given a chance to play for the NT unless a player gets injured. The same will happen to Fernandinha and Fabíola. I am not sure if Paula will play.


    As for the t-shirt numbers, I believe there will be a few changes, just like it happened in the Montreux Volley Masters:

    I don't know if this is the case, cause Dani Lins was with #7 in the Montreux roster, but she actually played with the #8.

    Most of the US squad members may sound new to everyone, but trust me, this is a good bunch of young players for Hugh Mccutcheon.

    I didn't watch her playing for Pesaro but, i think, in Brazil, Finasa Osasco times, she was number 7. But i can be wrong.
