World Championship Japan 2010

  • I think Russia vs USA is going to be the first big test for the russian team in this tournament, yes they have been flying so far, but at the same time the USA, Brazil and Italy (the first 3 teams in this years WGP) were in the other draw, China was incredibly weak and all the other were medium level teams. On the other hand, the USA come from 2 defeats against the 2 other strongest teams in their draw (Brazil, Italy) and must be wanting to prove their game.

I honestly expect a coin toss result here in at least 4 sets

  • Sorry for getting all emphatic, but like this you may udnerstand better where I'm coming from.

Yes, I understand what you mean. If talking about, what happens in the player's head, I think, you describe your very own vision, based on your own experience. Other individuals can see these things in other ways. For example, somebody, to show the best level of play, may need to get angry towards opponents. Others can have a trained "killer instinct". Etc. I think. creating the generalized laws, basing only on the own experience is a mistake, which may lead to the worse results.

You see the thing is, you people (saying this in a very derogatory tone ) seem to think that consciencely changing things is the way to make things better, because you yourself have analysed that things are going wrong (this is subjective).

    - Dudes, we're falling into the deep, dark stone abyss!

    - Stop panic. Be patient. Everything is under control.

    - (flop - flop - flop)

And he's right, you just have to see longer term and not demand results from her (Dijkema) now (which I have to say, a lot of you are doing).

Okay, I agree to wait one more year for Laura to play great. I compare her to Eugenia Startceva, who is one year elder.

I think we owe Selinger the same kind of patience that he extends to his players.

Every job, which needs to be done, has a term for that. You hire a person, give a task, set a term and pay money. If you satisfied with the result, you may prolong the contract with this person. I doubt it very much, that you would listen to "be patient" if the task wasn't completed in the term you set.
This is exactly how things work in Russian federation. They hired Caprara in 2005, gave him a task to earn medals on WCH 2006. Caprara did a job and contract was extended. Next task was to get medals on OG 2008. Caprara failed and contract ended. Simple as ABC. Why anybody has to be patient??

Can't wait for semi-final Russia - USA already. Sometimes, waiting one year is a piece a cake. But in this case waiting just a one day kills :)
Russian media say, that USA will be the first truly strong opponent on the way of the team. Big bosses from Federation has arrived to Japan already. Everything feels like the pressure level on the team grows hour by hour. It's getting really hot. Hope, Kuziutkin will manage to enclose the team from all this agiotage. Losing the fighting spirit in a skirmish with USA - the last thing we need.

For me this match is unpredictable. Both teams can win and whatever happens will not surprise me.

Russia has terrific outside hitters like Sokolova, Gamova and Kosheleva, but the American team has Destinee Hooker and Logan Tom. Considering the outside hitters I would say the Russian team is stronger than the American team. The Russian players are more likely to score points in counter attacks and also score points when serve reception doesn't work well than the Americans.

As for the middle blockers, I think the US team is stronger than Russia. Bown and Akinradewo are better than Borodakova and Perepelkina in my opinion. If both receptions work well, I believe the American team will have an advantage against Russia.

When it comes for the setters, both Glass and Startseva are playing well. Again, if both receptions work well, I believe the US team will have an advantage cause their game will be less predictable than Russia's.

As for the liberos, I believe Sykora is in an incredible shape and no other libero is playing better than her. I believe the USA team also have an advantage when it comes to the libero. Kruychkova is also a great libero, but like Sykora there are none in this Championship.

I only hope both teams could play their best volleyball and the best wins. It would be a pity if one of the teams have injury problems or just don't play well. So, I hope both teams could play a terrific match so that volleyball fans will have a good time watching this match.

  • Around 6 months ago, who would have thought that a recent college graduate from Texas by the name of Destinee Hooker will be matched up against one of the World's Best attacker and perhaps one of Russia's most important players in History? (Ekaterina Gamova). Its a daunting task for Hooker. Gamova will obviously win the match up as she is older (30 years old vs Hooker who is 23) and more experienced. But I think Hooker's athleticism will make her a star in the future. She's God's gift to USA volleyball  Funny but true.

I really like the match up between USA and Russia. Rarely do we see both teams play each other at a tournament with COMPLETE players. Gamova, Sokolova and Kosheleva vs Tom, Hooker and Larson... Russia should win this match up. However, I agree with Celso, USA could pull off a win should the USA setter utilizes her Middle Hitters more.

"[size=8]It's years and years of work and sacrifice and dedication. Along with a lot of these girls, we've sweat and we've bled and we've cried together in past Olympics. It just brought tears to my eyes, & I'm more than thrilled. This will be forever." -LOGAN MAILE LEI TOM (Silver Medallist - 2008 Beijing & 2012 London Olympic Games, 2011 World Cup runner up, 2003 & 2007 World Cup 3rd place, 2002 World Champs runner up, 4-time World GrandPrix Champs)

  • I agree that different players use different strategies to play well, I forget that sometimes. Probably not good at all to have general rules, but if I'd have to make some I'd probably pick a combination of patience and effort. And actually the example of the tasks you describe has quite a lot of patience in it I find. He's hired for at least a year at a time and they evaluate at the end and do not judge him in between. You are right when you say there is a danger with patience, because if you overdo it you'll let everything go to shit while being patient and waiting for everything to sort itself out. I don't think most people are anywhere near that side of the balance, especially not here.

It's funny you say that you'll give Laura one more year to play great. And then what? What if she doesn't? What if she starts playing really well after 6 years? You'll still have to accept that. You can't be like "nope, sorry, that's too late, we won't let you play", that's ridiculous.

  • This will be a good match.. Good luck to both teams.
    ( ♥ NESLiHAAAAN DARNELLLL ♥ )

What program do you use for creating these splendid images? :cheesy: :cheesy:

  • I still don't quite understand why Destinee was so sensitive at Logan shown a LITTLE more emotion once Berg subbed. :hit: Logan played poorly and she knew it and I don't think she blamed on Glass. But once Berg subbed, it more like she hope may be Berg can bring sth different helping she out of the poor hits. In fact, Logan's face&body language almost totally the same, only few more chats with Berg, but what's wrong with that!??

Poor Logan, had a bad match and also got blamed on-air by your teammate for showing more emotion  Hope it won't effect in the Russia match.

I'm sorry I didn't watch the USA game where after Hooker typed things like that on her Twitter page but I didn't understand the exact whole story. Is the whole thing about Tom exhibiting greater intimacy with Berg when she substituted in for Glass? Why does Hooker get upset about it if Tom's performance got better when Berg came in? Can someone explain the whole thing for me please? :) Thanks a lot in advance! :)

Coach should start trying/training the new setters.

It seems, that you still haven't realized, that club-NT project is over. Better ask yourself, what team would do all these six years, while Laura were looking for the great game-play of hers? All the time being beated on every tournament? Do you really think, federation and sponsors have the 6th years long patience to wait for the victories?
Now, when Dutch NT has returned to the traditional schedule, there is no more need to be locked on the constant team roster. Coach can try all players from inner championship. It's 8 teams, all having at least two setters. Who knows, maybe somewhere there is a brilliant hiding, which doesn't have a chance to shine because somebody is way too patient.

ps: Tic-tac, tic-tac.... Less than eight hours remain before the Russia - USA encounter starts :)

  • Tess von Piekartz,Kirsten Knip

Nice to see the talented players!

Tess von Piekartz,Kirsten Knip, can you tell me something about them?

Tess von Piekartz,Kirsten Knip, can you tell me something about them?

Tess is setter from Heutink Pollux, little bit short but very intelligent player.
Kirsten is coming from volleybalplayer,is good libero in TVC Amstelveen.

  • Laura is ok!
The problem is OH!And Dela league has many talented players, but Selinger is too lazy to train them.

  • any link to watch USA-Russia?

  • im so nervous with russia-usa match. i hope russia wins

  • RUSSIA wins the first set. They look really good. The US girls are not patient enough...

Since Berg has been subed for Alisha Glass, the USA game seem to work. LET'S GO GIRLS!!!
