The Olympic Games in Beijing - Elimination Round

  • I was watching other events at the same time, so I didn't pay much attention, but I had the impression Aguero played really bad, and Brazilian block seemed too strong.

Now, who will Brazil face in the semi-finals? The winner of which QF? Or is that not decided yet?

  • What the hell is wrong with China?? 2 losses in front of their people....

Brazil is very very good, sometimes Paula will be the star of a match, then Fabiana Sheilla Mari. They are the team to beat, they just do not really on one player, hell evan Thaisa, Jacqueline & Sassa can score a point. FOFAO sooo deserves the GOLD. Hope she gets inducted in the HOF. Fofao > Fernanda

We might see Caroline-Ana Tiemi as setters for Brazil after Beijing. Or Fernanda Venturini-Caroline.

    <3 The Brazillian Block

  • <3 The Brazillian Block

Their block was just...wow. :cheesy: I loved it, even though they were playing against us. :)

So...Italy is playing against who in the QF? China maybe?

  • I'm really happy about Brazil's convincing victory over Italy. I am especially happy because even with Gioli on court, Brazil was able to beat Italy by a larger margin of points than they did in the Grand Prix. The beginning of all sets were really close and then Brazil started to have a comfortable advantage. The first set was amazing, in the second set, Italy's defense improved but the key for the Italian reaction was Brazil's consecutive mistakes in serving, they put Italy back in the game after taking an early 16-10 lead in the 2nd set, luckily the Brazilian girls focused again and were able to beat Italy 25-22. In the third set, Brazil played more concentrated, despite having commited some mistakes.

I hope Brazil's girls keep on working hard so that we will be able to win our desired first-ever golden medal in Women's Volleyball at the Olympic Games.

    GO BRAZIL!!!!!

  • Italy can beat China if ever they meet.

    Italy vs China - 3:2

    USA vs Brazil - 0:3

    Russia vs Cuba - 0-3

I think that will be the QF matches

  • Well, there's nothing to say, except that Brasil is the best team in Beijing, and they're the favorite for the gold medal.
They played an excellent match, Mari was great, Fofao was fabolous, everyone played wonderfully. Italy just couldn't win against this team.
    So, congratulations to Brasil

It is time for the Brazil women to win the gold. Hahaha @ Brazil men's team.

  • Jaden, I am afraid you commited a mistake, cause the US team finished 2nd in its pool after beating Poland today. Brazil might face Japan or China in the QF, it depends on which team will win the last match of the preliminary round of pool A.

I just hope the two 2nd ranked teams don't face each other in the QFs. That would be unfair to both Italy and USA.

  • Series of firsts in Beijing maybe?

    -First gold for Brazil

    -First medal standing for Italy

    -First time Cuba gets energized..

Brazil-Cuba-Italy is my bet to be in the podium. Russia is hopeless. Maybe China can redeem themselves

  • I hope you are right, Jaden. Brazil, Italy and Cuba definitely merit to be in the podium.

  • dont forget that there will be a new drawing.
Its possible that the 2nd ranked team from Pool A will face the 2nd ranked one from Pool B.
The only sure thing is that the first ones will play against the 4th ranked team

  • I hope you are right, Jaden. Brazil, Italy and Cuba definitely merit to be in the podium.

actually these 3 are my favorite teams, but I'm a Brasil fan since they visited Manila ages ago. BRASIL FTW

  • Poor Skowrońska. She was so good today: so many points. She was blocked two times in crucial moments in the tie-break, but then served really fantastic! However, other girls didn't take advantage of that. Sad :( . No blocks and Willoughby killed us with her serves.
I think, that Bonitta made to few changes during the match.
I agree with Celso, that match against Japan was the most important. if we had won it, the defeat against USA wouldn't have been that painful.
Now we are out, along with Venezuela, Kazakhstan and Algeria. With all the respect for these teams, I wouldn't call it splendid companion...
During the tournament, Poland were leading in three matches (Cuba, China, USA). And lost all of them
Yes, Nastja, it is time to say goodbye to Glinka. Too bad - not in the match finished with our victory...
    Brazil is amazing

You really think so? whom should he have substituted? The middles were alright and Skorupa was doing a good job, not worse than Sadurek for sure.
The other ones were playing good as well, of course they had their typical mental black-outs but they found back at least before the match was over.

    Well poor blocks...
Its funny that Lena got nominated best blocker in some friendlies of her new club some days ago, while the polish nt has nobody, who can block even the easiest attacks..... well, i think bonitta should do the thing my avatar suggests

You are right, but as Niemczyk said in Polish TV, Skorupa might have been changed sometimes, so that Sadurek could have surprised USA with some different actions, not because Skorupa was bad. When you always play the same, the opponents startr to handle with that. I think Barańska and Podolec also should have played a little bit more. But generally I meant especially setters changes.

If Poland had another setter than Sadurek i would totally agree with you that its kinda necessary to change the setter during a 5-setter. USA was changing the whole time...

But Sadurek is a very simple player, at least from what i saw at these Olympics. So i think that a Skorupa, playing 2 hours without a break has more surprises than a Sadurek when being substituted
