Poland celebrate gold medals in Tampere
In the boys’ division Poland started strongly and almost surprised pre-favorite Serbia. Poland took the first set easily, but then Serbia woke up. Both teams fought well and the game was very equal. Poland was very close to end the game in the fourth set, but Serbia succeeded in extending the game to the fifth set. It still wasn’t enough as an enthusiastic Poland fought for the victory over Serbia scoring a 3:2 to celebrate gold.
The bronze medal match between Germany and host team Finland ended in favor of the Germans. Finland fought and won the first set 25-17, but Germany played well and Finland didn’t keep up with the speed. Germany celebrated the final 3:1 (17-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-19) for the bronze medal.
Classification matches Russia ended their tournament victoriously. The Russian team defeated Belgium 3:1 (22-25, 16-25, 26-24, 19-25) to clinch the fifth place. The victory wasn’t still pleasing the Russians who considered the tournament a big disappointment as they missed the finals. France took the seventh place after a tight struggle with The Netherlands that ended at the tie-break (25-22, 25-23, 13-25, 17-25, 15-13).
