  • India is doing well this tournament. They have beaten Belgium, so they must be strong :cheesy: .
Why don't we see this country at the important senior tournaments? Or should we keep an eye on them the following years?

thats because most of the nontraditional volleyball powers (mostly in Asia) are using overaged players... with "updated" documents

  • Belgium loses 1-3 to Russia in 5th place ranking game.
Except for first set -23, there was no stopping the Russians: -18, -18, -15 (12 Russian aces, auch!!)

Btw, this is getting a little annoying these heavy defeats against Russia:
    - Belgium junior team already got a big 3-0 defeat on wednesday (-21, -13, -17)
    - Belgium senior team gets demolished yesterday in WC Qualification tournament (-18, -22, -16).

Other than that, 6th place is an excellent result for Belgian junior team.
You could argue that they started in the weaker poule (Iran, China, Egypt),
but after that they scored excellent results:
    - 3-2 victory over Argentina
    - 2-3 loss to India
    - 3-0 victory over Iran

So, once again, excellent overall performance and a clear confirmation of their 6th place in the youth world championships.
Too bad still they missed 3 key players in this tournament.

France probably deserved a place in the final 8 (they won 2 out of 3 games in the preliminaries, but the 3-0 loss of Cuba against Agentina in the opening match killed the french set ratio)
But that's how this works: you have to have a little bit of luck in the drawing of lots

    So, I'm betting that:
    - France will win over Poland for the 9th place
    - Argentina will defeat India for the Bronze
    - Brazil will take the title against Cuba

  • All FIVB competitions take in count point ratio, it was more tragic in Belarus case then in French, but afterall if they depend so much for one player they dont deserve more

I wish Cuba to take gold, cause they lost in groups 3-0 both to Argentina and Brazil, and when it counts they play better, so yesterday fell Argentina, hope Brazil will in finals too :win:

  • So, I'm betting that:
    - France will win over Poland for the 9th place
    - Argentina will defeat India for the Bronze
    - Brazil will take the title against Cuba

    As for now 1-1 ;)
    - France - Poland 0-3 (14-25 23-25 17-25)
    - India - Argentina 0-3 (19-25 16-25 22-25)
    - in progress

  • Only 9th place for Poland. Well, I wouldn't call it success...

    The most important 3:
    POLAND-SZCZECIN-VOLLEYBALL

    5th place - Prediction Game - World League 2011 :D

  • Final Match
    Brazil - Cuba 3-2 (30-28 21-25 25-22 23-25 15-8 )

  • Very disappointing results for the French team.

Despite an unlucky drawing of lot, and the lack of two key players* from the European title, France was able to perform well against Cuba and Argentina, even finishing with the best set ratio than the final runner-up of the competition. But the point ratio was not so good and France did not access the top 8.
After that, the team had to cope with other injuries (including Krou and Quesque, the best scorers of the team) and the feeling to have wasted their chances.
