Norceca - Sr. Women’s Volleyball Championship 2009

  • The U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team, ranked second in the latest FIVB World Ranking released Aug. 24, is in Pool B of the 2009 NORCECA Continental Championship, which is being played Sept. 22-27 at Bayamon, Puerto Rico.


    The U.S. is grouped with Mexico, Costa Rica and Cuba in Pool B. The opposing group includes Canada, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Trinidad & Tobago.


    The winner of the NORCECA Continental Championship earns a berth into the six-team 2009 FIVB World Grand Champions Cup to be held Nov. 10-15 in Japan.

    The U.S. roster includes a highly talented group of veteran Olympians, with Danielle Scott-Arruda, Heather Bown, Logan Tom, Nancy Metcalf, Lindsey Berg, Cynthia Barboza and Stacey Sykora.   • BAYAMON, Puerto Rico, September 22, 2009 – USA scored a straight sets victory 25-18, 25-10, 25-13 over a young team of Mexico in the opening match of the NORCECA Women’s Continental Championship at Ruben Rodriguez Coliseum on Tuesday.


    Nancy Metcalf and Cynthia Barboza led USA with 11 and 10 points and Jordan Larson tallied 9 points. Olivia Meza and Cecilia Rios each had 8 points for Mexico.
