"Knack reaches the next round in the Cup!

A solid win in Antwerpen last night when Knack Randstad had to go and play in an uncomfortable environment against a team that last season proved to be a very difficult opponent for them.

It was a clear show of will and technical strength the one Knack showed yesterday, from the warm-up until the last moments of the match they showed they wanted this result badly enough and took a 1,2,3 match against players that just could not compete at the level they needed to put pressure on Knack.

The major difference like it happens time and time again was in two categories, service pressure from the blue side and better defense counterattack to slowly build a lead that was just too much for the opponents to deal with.

In the third set they decided to try and risk a lot with their service but we all know that doing that can help their cause but it can also break once and for all their chances with a lot of mistakes. The latter happened and they started to commit service errors one after another and Knack coming to the end of the set had a commanding lead. In the twenties the set got more interesting when Antwerpen finally could put a stretch of points together to get close but it was just too late and at the end Knack was able to put away the match and with it advance to the next round of the Belgian Cup.

The scores of the sets were: 18-25, 17-25, 22-25. Now Knack has to focus again this week to prepare against their archrivals Maaseik when they go and visit them in the Belgian competition. The leadership of the competition is once again at stake since Maaseik is only a point behind Knack so that makes this weekend match interesting. Hope to see you all there."

"Knack defends the leadership!

Many people were saying that last night's match against Maaseik was not a really important one but to the eyes of every Knack player meant staying at the top of the Belgian Championship for quite some time if they were able to come out on top. It would also send a message to everybody that Maaseik is beatable in their own gym and that plants a nice seed for the future.

With that in mind our guys in blue knew that it would not be an easy task to accomplish since Maaseik is truly a strong team that plays great defense and side out at a high percentage. The fist set showed everybody just that when Maaseik started building a nice lead in their favour and taking that first set with relative ease with a score of 25-17.

When the second set began the momentum changed and Knack saw their first true chance of coming out of with a good feeling if they could put some good rallies together. They started putting a lot of service pressure against Maaseik which at the same time started to make some unforced errors especially in service. Knack took the second set and the momentum of the match with a score of 15-25.

The third set even though was won by our guys in blue with a score of 20-25 showed two teams that slowly started to find better rhythm at times and were able to play top level volleyball at times. It all seemed that Knack was going to get a real chance of finishing the match in 4 sets if they could continue with the same rhythm and mentality as they had done in the 2nd and 3rd set.

Volleyball is an interesting sport and even though one team can be leading during the whole set at the end things can turn around so quickly. Knack had a lead and going into the 20's of the set seemed in control and on their way to finishing the match but suddenly were unable to close the set as normal and Maaseik with an ace and a couple of blocks turned it once again in their favor by taking it 27-25 and forcing a decisive 5th set.

The 5th set could have not been more dramatic as both teams changed possession of the ball time and time again. They both had match points but could not capitalize on their opportunities until Maaseik made a couple of errors at the end to give the set and the match to Kanck Randstad Roeselare.

This result means that the teams split the 3 points, 2 going to Knack and 1 to Maaseik and with that the lead in the table of the championship is increased to 2 points in favor of our guys in blue which might come in handy in the near future.

On other results of the competition, Averbode went to Puurs and beat them 2-3, Menen were able to defend their home court against Lennik 3-1, Antwerp went to Guibertin and beat them closely 2-3 and Halen beat Kruibeke at home 3-1. A lot of split points this time in the competition.

Now Knack focuses again on the Belgian Cup when they go to Vosselaar in a one game showdown this coming Wednesday to try to go through to the semifinal where they would probably meet Maaseik once more this time in a two game semi."

"Dominant win for Knack in Averbode!

A dominant presentation the one Knack had tonight in Averbode, a team that had not lost this season. They have had won all their matches with a score of 3-2 so that meant that they were and are a team with a lot of fighting spirit and a team that never gives up until the last point is fought in the court.

All the Knack players were ready for a fight and they were ready to bring it to them and show they could be the first ones to beat them this season. Historically it has always been a battle for Knack to win in Averbode and even last year it was a tough loss for the team when they faced them in the semifinal of the cup loosing an important golden set to be taken out of the Cup.

Fortunately things went Knack's way form the beginning and the first two sets were pretty much a walkover when our guys could play at a really high level (for some people the best they have seen so far this season) and Averbode was just not prepared to compete at that level. The scores of those two first sets were 17-25 and 15-25.

It was not until the third set when the game really got interested, it was a very close set all the way and Averbode even had a couple of leads during the decisive moments of the match. They even had the opportunity to force the match into a 4th set but Knack maintained their calm and were able to turn things around and to finish the set in a dramatic fashion with a score of 25-27.

Overall it was a good match for our guys that slowly have become better with each week that passes. Hopefully they can keep improving steadily for the tough matches that await them both in the Cup and in Champions League.

Now the team focuses again on the Belgian Cup where they have the second match against Vosselaar this coming Wednesday. They beat them last Wednesday 0-3 so they only need one set to be in the semifinals."

"First loss for Knack Randstad!

Last night was the first night Knack did not come back home from facing Lennik with a win on their back. It is definitely a new feeling for the group and one we had to experience sooner or later. It is really difficult to remain undefeated for the duration of a whole season son this moment was one to be expected at some point. The timing could have been better though since the group has only a week to recover and to fight back and find their confidence looking forward into what is going to be the most important match of the season for them so far, the first match against Maaseik at home.

Looking back at last night's match we should not be surprised at how the events took place or even at the close result or the victory for Lennik since historically we all know how hard it is for Roeselare to win against Lennik any time they face each other and this was no different. The match started with Lennik taking a lot of risk with their service which was expected since that is always a tactic of them and it worked combined with great reading by their block and also great defense actions by all of their players to make Knack work extra hard for every side out they needed. At the end Lennik took that first set with relatively ease and a score of 25-18.

In the second set the actions were leveled and Roeselare started to play like they can and showed more variation and resources in attack and took that second set close with a score of 23-25. When the third set came it seemed as if Roeselare had taken over control of the match for the night and they looked strong and at many moments dominant to take the third set with a score of 21-25.

Many spectators thought Lennik was broken but once again they showed to be a team that does not give up and fought back to win the 4th making the statement that tonight was not going to be easy for Knack and took it 25-19 forcing a decisive 5th set.

During the 5th set and thanks to a lot of scrappy defenses and individual actions Lennik was able to get a lead and defend it until the match was done in their favor taking the 5th with a 15-11 score.

This means Lennik takes 2 points away from the match while Knack takes home only one point. Now Knack and Maaseik are tied in points leading the competition and setting up yet another classic when next Saturday arrives and they face each other in Schiervelde Hall, Roeselare."
