Brazilian league 2009/10

  • Unilever have many problems right now with injuries!

Well...Carol Gattaz is out cause she had a problem in her foot since National Team...must come back next week to trainnins...cause the other middle blocker, Dani Oliveira had a serious injury in last game against Osasco. She had an operation yesterday after breaking the ligament in her foot, and is out hole season.

Other problems in the team are Monique, with pains, and Joycinha has contractions problems and rest game yesterday against Mackenzie.

Also setter Dani Lins and middle FAbiana are felling pains...but keep playing.

Yesterday against Mackenzie the team had only 9 players, and had to take Luiza and Carol from base categories to have players. Bernardinho decided to play with Michelle an Erika as OH and Regiane as Opposite. The young middle MAra Leao, fourth middle of the club recieved a lot of compliments from the coach, and Unilever won 3x0 after all.

A lot of players in Brasil are felling with physical problems..I think must cause of the crazy calendar of CBV!!!!Is crazy to put them to play 3 games in one week sometimes!!!! I'm afraid this might have reflection in Naitonal Team in teh middle of the year.

  • Ditto. The January match schedule is incredibly tough for Sao Caetano. Then put Sao Caetano to rest for 10 days. What I think is if there is really tight chedule and no way to avoid 3 matches in a week. That is OK.But making players be exhausted then rest for a long time is really unreasonable. :hit:

  • My favourite team is Blausiegel/São Caetano in Brazilian League. But Unilever super team, sao cateno can't go to next round. :(

I want to ask one question , Sheilla will play next season in sao cateno? or will come to Europe?

  • I'm not that sure if Sao Caetano can not pass...I support Unilever, but the team is playing quite bad right now....we have been fighting all season with injuried players...and till now Carol Gattaz and Regiane are not in best shape...playing with pain. The team is not is same level right now as when played against Cannes in final of Top Volley. We have problems with reception, witch makes a big problem for us in spiking area...and Sao Caetano is doing very great right now....they made two amazing games against Minas in quarters....so..will be a honest fight between both teams...

About Sheilla....I'm not really sure...but I think the first year she signed was an agrement of 3 years contract...but I'm not sure of that...I think we will have to wait end of season.

  • I believe this is the most balanced Superliga I've ever seen. There were 5 teams with real chances of being champions. Minas is already out, anyway. It is important to remember the campaign of all these teams agasint each other:

    Unilever/Rio de Janeiro 1x3 Sollys/Osasco
    Unilever/Rio de Janeiro 3x1 Pinheiros/Mackenzie
    Unilever/Rio de Janeiro 3x0 Blausiegel/São Caetano
    Unilever/Rio de Janeiro 3x1 Usiminas/Minas

    Sollys/Osasco 3x2 Unilever/Rio de Janeiro
    Sollys/Osasco 3x2 Pinheiros/Mackenzie
    Sollys/Osasco 3x0 Blausiegel/São Caetano
    Sollys/Osasco 0x3 Usiminas/Minas

    Pinheiros/Mackenzie 3x2 Unilever/Rio de Janeiro
    Pinheiros/Mackenzie 0x3 Sollys/Osasco
    Pinheiros/Mackenzie 3x2 Blausiegel/São Caetano
    Pinheiros/Mackenzie 3x2 Usiminas/Minas

    Blausiegel/São Caetano 0x3 Unilever/Rio de Janeiro
    Blausiegel/São Caetano 3x1 Sollys/Osasco
    Blausiegel/São Caetano 3x1 Pinheiros/Mackenzie
    Blausiegel/São Caetano 3x1 Usiminas/Minas

    Usiminas/Minas 3x1 Unilever/Rio de Janeiro
    Usiminas/Minas 0x3 Sollys/Osasco
    Usiminas/Minas 0x3 Pinheiros/Mackenzie
    Usiminas/Minas 3x0 Blausiegel/São Caetano

From these results it is possible to see that:

    1) The only team which Unilever didn't defeat was Sollys/Osasco
    2) The only team which Blausiegel/São Caetano didn't beat was Unilever/Rio de Janeiro
    3) The only team which Pinheiros/Mackenzie didn't beat was Sollys/Osasco
    4) The only team which Usiminas/Minas didn't beat was Pinheiros/Mackenzie
    5) The only team which beat all its opponents was Sollys/Osasco

I believe Sollys/Osasco is the most balanced and strong team, it is hard to find a weak point in them. I would say they lost their concentration quite often and that causes many problems to them. Thaísa, Adenízia, Natália, Jaqueline and Carol Albuquerque are doing just great. They are playing very well and, in my opinion Sollys/Osasco is the favourite to winning this competition.

Unilever/Rio de Janeiro has problems with serve reception (neither Regiane nor Érika are receiving well) and I believe their opposite is the weakest comparing to the opposites of the 3 other teams (Sheilla, Natália and Lia Castro). They have a middle-blocker who makes the difference, Fabiana, but I don't like their outside hitters, Regiane is weak in reception and has too many ups and downs in attack. Their strong point is their coach. He definitely makes the team perform as good as possible and very well tactically. These two things combined makes Unilever a strong contestant for the Superliga title, even if their team is not as good as the others, when it comes to the players roster.

Blausiegel/São Caetano's force lies on the trio Fofão, Mári and Sheilla. If team reception works, the team performs real well, otherwise, they are easily beaten by their opponents. It seems São Caetano's reception is working now, and if their serve reception works in the next two matches, I dare to say they will reach the final match of the competition. Their middle-blockers are the fastest of the competition (thanks to Fofão), but such plays only occur when Mári, Mariana and Suellen's reception works.

Pinheiros/Mackenzie strong point is also team work. But I believe their outside hitters are better than Rio de Janeiro's. Fernanda Garay is just amazing, I really like the way she plays and I wouldn't be surprised if she were in the NT's roster for this season. She and Ju Costa are the outside hitters of the team and differently from Sollys/Osasco (with Sassá), Unilever (with Érika) and São Caetano (with Mariana Costa), both of them are really good in attack. In my opinion, Érika's, Sassá's and Mariana's attacks are not that strong, such players are in the team to stabilize serve reception. Their weak point is the middle-blockers when it comes to their attack, they are good in blocking but not as good in attacking. Lia is a great opposite, and Fabiola is doing a good job when it comes to setting. I believe they can beat any team they face and their numbers in the 1st round of the preliminary round prove that, their only defeat was to Sollys/Osasco in the tie-breaker. They have beaten all the other teams they faced.

  • Yesterday's results:

    Sollys Osasco 3 x 1 Pinheiros Mackenzie (25-15, 25-20, 21-25, 25-23)

    Blausiegel São Caetano 3 x 0 Unilever Rio de Janeiro (25-22, 26-24, 25-19)

Sollys Osasco and Blausiegel São Caetano are 1 victory away from the final match.

It would be nice if the final match were played among these two teams, cause it would be possible to see 7 olympic champions fighting for the title of the Superliga:
Fofão, Sheilla, Mári, Thaísa, Jaqueline, Sassá and Carol Albuquerque.

Next matches of the semifinal playoffs will be played this Tuesday:

    Pinheiros Mackenzie x Sollys Osasco
Unilever Rio de Janeiro x Blausiegel São Caetano

If the visitors win their matches, the title match will be defined. In case host teams win, the finalists will be known only next Saturday.

  • Tuesday's results:

    Pinheiros Mackenzie 1 x 3 Sollys Osasco (19-25, 20-25, 25-19, 15-25)

The match between Unilever Rio de Janeiro and Blausiegel São Caetano will be played this Thursday because Rio de Janeiro was really affected by the heavy rains in the city. If São Caetano beats Rio de Janeiro they will face the Osasco's team on April 18th for the Superliga title. São Caetano still has a chance of qualifying for the final match of this competition in case they were beaten. In this case a third match will occur on Saturday (April 10th) and the winner will face Sollys Osasco in the fight for the Superliga's 1st place.

  • So based on the statistics Sao Caetano will be in final if they could block Fabiana and at the same time avoid being blocked by Fabiana.

  • Thursday's results:

    Unilever Rio de Janeiro 3 x 0 Blaüsiegel São Caetano (25-22, 25-21, 25-15)

Unilever has beaten São Caetano before its fans and forced the 3rd match. The curious thing about this match was that São Caetano was playing really well in the 1st set and the score was 22-17 for São Caetano. In an amazing come back, Rio de Janeiro scored 8 points in a row and after that, São Caetano's couldn't recover emotionally. The team committed too many mistakes in the following sets and eventually lost the match.

    Today's results:

    Unilever Rio de Janeiro 3 x 2 Blaüsiegel São Caetano (25-15, 20-25, 25-14, 24-26, 15-08 )

São Caetano committed too many mistakes again. The team reception didn't work as expected and they eventually lost the match in the tie-breaker.

In 7 days Sollys Osasco and Unilever Rio de Janeiro will face each other for the 4th time this year.
So far this season, the win-loss record is completely favourable for Sollys Osasco. These teams have faced each other three times this year and the results were the following:

    Sollys Osasco 3 x 1 Unilever Rio de Janeiro (25-19, 25-17, 12-25, 25-18 ) - Gold Medal Match - South American Championship - Lima/PER
    Sollys Osasco 3 x 2 Unilever Rio de Janeiro (23-25, 25-18, 27-25, 23-25, 15-12) - Preliminary Round - Superliga - Osasco/BRA
    Sollys Osasco 3 x 1 Unilever Rio de Janeiro (25-17, 25-27, 26-24, 25-15) - Preliminary Round - Superliga - Rio de Janeiro/BRA

Sollys Osasco: Jaqueline and Sassá (outside hitters), Natália (opposite), Carol Albuquerque (setter), Thaísa and Adenízia (middle-blockers), Camila Brait (libero)
Unilever Rio de Janeiro: Regiane and Érika (outside hitters), Joycinha (opposite), Dani Lins (setter), Fabiana and Carol Gattaz (middle-blockers), Fabi (libero)

  • The truth is Unilever players were warriors!!!!They overcome all the hard time they had this week!!!!!

For thoso who dont know....during this week the city of Rio pass through hard times due the rain that falled over the city. Monday, Unilever players had to stay the hole night locked inside Maracanazinho gymn cause the rian invaded it, and they could not left! Was a nightmare. The girls WEnt to train at 17:30h monday..and could leave the gymn only 11am the day after...being hungry and having to sleep inside the gymn, the game that was going to happen tusday had to be reschadule, cause the gymn was in no conditions....so went to Thursday, they won the match, and yesterday ina big battle they did it again.....wa sa victory of the overcome of the hard times!!!!This girls were warriors, we deserved to be in final! I'm so proud of them!!!:))))

  • I think this flood-water thing served only to make São Caetano's team lose its momentum. The São Caetano team was playing much better than Unilever and giving two more days for the Rio de Janeiro team to recover emotionally from the defeat in the first match of the semifinal playoffs really benefited Unilever. It is funny, to say the least, that the second match was postponed and not the third one. Unilever had more time to recover from the 1st defeat, but São Caetano didn't have any time to recover from the 2nd defeat. That explains a lot more what decided these semifinals than this cheesy speech that goes: "warriors overcome tense moments". Come on, no one will buy that.

Of course Bernardinho might have taken advantage of that to motivate its players, but nothing really grave happened to the Rio de Janeiro's players during this rain. Besides, these players were sleeping in the gymnasium lounge, they even ordered pizza. How much of a nightmare is that?

Finally, Rio de Janeiro's fans attitude towards Mari only shows the Unilever fan's lack of respect towards important volleyball players. Her reaction was totally comprehensible and she should have done even more. At least one good thing happened to São Caetano's players, they are flying back to São Paulo and don't have to stay in Rio de Janeiro anymore for any single minute.

  • Oh please Celso, dont tell of what you dont know....you are so wrong in some many points

Yeah..I guess the hole team loved to stay the hole night inside the gymn monday...I think I'll even consider now they did on porpose...please...
The problem was not only sleaping there, they ate bad, they pass hungry, fear, you have no idea of what it was, so pay respec for people from Rio. They didnt sleep at all actually, Carol stayed in teh streets...and the girls in bad situations...the psicological matter has major influence in such good level of volleyball game.

You have no idea how hard has been these week for us in Rio. While Unilever girls were sufering with the rain...Sao Caetano was safe in the hotel, the only thing he had was one day without trainning, witch Unilever also didnt. They dont even start the train monday. Same as sao cAetano, and still had to pass through all the bad moments, and yes was bad, dont try to imagine cause you cant! What ahppened in Rio de Janeiro was not a commom flood that happens all the time in Sao Paulo, was a disaster, all cairocas felt sad and that include the girls. The girls are tired, Fabi is sick cause of it. Wasnt good for any of the teams. So, I know you hate Bernardinho and Unilever, but dont take out their credit. The girls fought a lot to win this two matches. Maybe would be easier to let it go and put the fault in the rain and in the problems but they didnt. And the rain was nothing good for no one ehre in Rio. I can garantee that to you. At least that you should respect.

Now about Mari, again..you dont know what you talk about. Nothing offensive was sad to Mari. I'm not telling that I agree with Saca na Mari, but what offensive has in that you tell me?
Call Burra, pipoqueira, isnt worse? Spit in players face, call them bitch isnt worse?...well..for me is...cause dont deal with volleyball, only with personal...things that Osasco supporters do for a long time. and everyone knows that, you know that. I'm not lieing here.

We feel really sorry if Mari took to personal side. Anyway she sould not had have that response. Was a not tipic game, the gymn was completely full, many people had never went to a game, and was only joking with her, not to be offensive, to put pression only. I think if she had made a bad reception and then people had sing it..would be much worse. Witch didnt happen, till the time she took that reaction she didnt had even recieved a ball in that set. So she could had stayed with her mind cool, that in two more services people would have stopped, Eika did that and response in the ball in the game, as Mari should have done.

I like to let clear here, that I like Mari, I think people still implicate with her indeed, much times without being necessary, but dont tell me that supporters in Rio were offensive cause they were not. And I'm sure that thought everything what happened, Mari is sad with us, maybe disapoited even, but still have respect for us, cause she knows as all players that come to play here, that we do have a lot of respect for everyone, and they will always be welcome. And I know that for SURE.

I'm just sorry that your hate towards Rio de Janeiro is so big that stop you to avaliate things the fairest way. Were you ever direcly offended by a Carioca, came here and had the worse time? Cause for me this rivalry Rio- São Paulo is just to childish.

  • I think maybe it's a destiny.Because the rain just came right at the time. And Bernardinho chose to play 1st match out of home. And the schedule is so tight. So the result is Unilever treated the natural disaster as a motivation and to Sao Caetano playing with a tight schedule especially after a crash by 0:3 is their weakness. So this is it.However 2:3 is a big progress for Sao Caetano I think.Honestly if the confederation could think about the contingency and make plan B in advance by moving the 3rd match to neutral site the competition could be more fair.

After all I think Sao Caetano is a unstable and still in growing process team. And one of her outside hitter and libero is much weaker than the ones in Rio and Osasco.I wonder if next season there will be a stronger Sao Caetano or it is the end for Sao Caetano and her sponsor. :super:
