Bulgarian NT for 2010 season

  • Where do Ivan Kolev and Boynko Bonev playing?

I thought they are talented, and what happened to Ivan in Italy, started A1, then went to A2 and was not playing a lot also there? is he signed for this season?

Ivan Kolev didn't play in A2 much because of an injury, he was then sent back to Bulgaria, probably he couldn't use his chance in Italy, approximately the same thing happened to Metodi Ananiev when he was in Montichiari with Julio Velasco 2-3 seasons ago.. Boyko Bonev played occasionally during the last two seasons in the IECL with CSKA, but he also suffered several injuries and haven't been completely fit for a while. So, they're now both training again with CSKA Sofia, let's hope they make a good season in the IECL if they stay there (not transfered meanwhile) or given the chance to play.

  • Aww it must be hard being Alexiev, he gets criticised a lot, while he's such a good player. Of course he's no Matey Kaziyski or Nikolov, but still very good. I remember when Bulgaria played in Holland Avital Selinger actually thought Alexiev was the most impressive player.

I don't see Juantorena doing it either. Although it would be a lot better choice than Italy, but it doesn't make any sense, since he's never even been in Bulgaria probably :P

  • Yes, Juantorena is not born in Bulgaria, no excuse for him to be in our NT. People are just dreaming for gold here, but we can take it without foreign players

  • Yeah.. oh well. Juantorena and the Bulgarian team are both cool, so in that sense it's a good match.

  • Yes, it was officially announced today on a press conference from the Bulgarian Volleyball Federation.

Radostin Stoichev will replace Silvano Prandi. The new coach has a contract for 2 years - till OG London 2012.

  • The treatment of Silvano Prandi was very uncivilized. They said, that he stays for the next year and then they negotiated behind his back, BEFORE releasing him. This is not Bulgarian. This is the opposite of being Bulgarian.

  • What's the main reason of laying Prandi off? Because of a 7th-place finish deemed unacceptable, or poor tactics of Prandi's team (all balls to Kaziyski and Nikolov)?

Anyway, I wish that Stoychev could discover some new talents. Bulgaria really needs a good receiver to keep the offense balanced.

  • Well, the BV Federation considers as problematic the communication between Prandi and the team players.
Also they are some of the spacialists here who think that Bulgarian team will do it better with a Bulgarian coach as he will be more motivated...and so on... ?(

I personaly think because of the 7th place on WC and the fact we miss the WL finals are disapointing a little bit...

I don't think that it is a poor tactics not to play with the MB, but more likely a consequence of the veeeeery poor reception and lack of defence witch make our game predictable. Also we dont' have a real alternative of Zhekov, most ot the setters we have are very young and unexperienced.

Lets hope the new coach will have success! I wish him luck

  • Coaching an NT is a challenge, especially if you are a foreigner! IMO, Silvano Prandi is a great coach, I like him even though he has his weaknesses, I believe he's not the one to take the responsibility for the 7th place in the WCH! If Aleksiev or Bratoev had used their chances to counterattack (just giving an example) against Cuba, we would be talking about how good coach Prandi is right now because then we might've eliminated Cuba (I don't wanna blame any of the players either!). There are maybe 10-12 other coaches of his level in the world and as such Prandi definitely deserved a full Olympic cycle to show his impact! I like Stoychev extremely much, to me there was no other option for a coach of our NT right now (the Federation obviously thought the same), but he will have all the time in the world to coach our team, he is relatively young! Besides every coach has a different approach towards the players and the work, getting a new coach means a new beginning, so I believe Prandi should've stayed another two years till the Olympics, the players already got used to him even though this year our NT didn't have any results..

With the obvious fact that Stoychev is an amazing coach and a tactician, I hope he will find a way to make results and finally bring home this little we are always missing!

I absolutely agree with you. Silvano Prandi deserved a chance to complete an Olimpic Cycle till 2012. He is a great coach and I like him. Surely it was not his fault that the players made some individual mistakes at the most important moments!

The Federation thought that if Stoichev doesn't accept the offer, then Prandi would keep his position.
Nobody else had been invited for negotiations, so at least they understand Prand made some important steps in the right direction....

Hope Stoichev will continue his work and improve it in the best possible way :cup:
