Zobahan of Iran, PR Korea, Thailand's Federbrau and
Kazakhstan's Zhetyssu emerged victorious in their respective pools on
the opening day of the 2010 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship
in Gresik City, Indonesia on Saturday.

The nine-day tournament from June
26 to July 4 draws ten club teams who are divided into two pools. The
club teams from Indonesia, Iran��Japan, Chinese Taipei and PRK are
competing in Pool A while those from Vietnam, Thailand, China,
Kazakhstan and Korea play each other in Pool B.

Sharif Zadeh Molouk, head coach ofZobahan said “We need more practice and we
also need to gain more experience. This is only the second time that
the team is participating in an international competition.”

Gresik City, East Java, Indonesia, 27 June 2010 – Japan and Chinese
Taipei triumphed over their Pool A opponents, while Kazakhstan and
Thailand sustained back-to-back wins in Pool B at the 2010 Asian Women’s
Club Volleyball Championship at the Tri Dharma Gymnasium Sunday.
The match between Japan’s JT Marvelous and People’s Republic of Korea
was highlighted by numerous long rallies, depicting both teams’
commendable hustle for the ball. But it was the Japanese who prevailed
at the end of the match with a 3-0 win, 25-23, 25-14, 25-14. The first
set was marked by the miscues on the Japanese court, which gave People’s
Republic of Korea the lead at most times. Japan tried to regain its
composure by anchoring its plays on captain Maiko Sakashita, who fired
from both sides of the court. Jong Jin Sim contributed to the team’s
scoring efforts but People’s Republic of Korea could no longer stop the
momentum of the Japanese by the end of the first set. The succeeding
sets also provided a brilliant exchange of attacks, but Japan proved to
be more tenacious in their offense, specially with Ai Inden’s total
contribution of 16 points.

In the succeeding match, Chinese Taipei vindicated itself from its
previous 5-set loss, and conquered Zobahan of Iran in straight sets,
25-23, 25-11, 25-13. The opener was closely fought, with both teams
proving their offensive mettle. Chen Wan Ting and captain Teng Yen Min
took the lead in the attacking department for Chinese Taipei, but crowd
favorite Tatiana Alvez Dossantos also did scoring wonders for the
Iranians. Chinese Taipei took better control of their plays and escaped
with a narrow lead at the end of the first set. By the second set,
captain Viktoria Brice started to pick up some scoring opportunities for
the Iranian Team, but Chinese Taipei had better ball distribution and
variation of their plays. Tsai Yin Feng and Wu Ko Jou also contributed
to Chinese Taipei’s scoring cause, and helped their team easily win the
rest of the match.

Zhetyssu of Kazakhstan remained undefeated in Pool B with their
second day win over Vietnam’s VTV Binh Dien in three sets, 25-16, 25-21,
26-24. The Kazakhs capitalized on Vietnam’s reception and ball-handling
errors at the start of the match. Having seen that the Vietnamese
displayed lackluster floor defense, Kazakhstan’s Olga Drobyshevskaya and
Olga Nassedkina took every opportunity to pound away at the ball.
Vietnam could not seem to orchestrate their plays properly, and when
they are able to attempt at doing so, their attacks are only foiled by
the tall Kazakh blockers. By the second set, the Vietnamese started
attacking and even blocking better that they took the lead over their
opponents. However, Kazakhstan was quick to make their adjustments and
raced to close the second set with a win. The scoring efforts of
Vietnam’s Anaseini Seniloli helped extend the third set to a close duel,
but the match eventually closed out with Kazakhstan’s victory.

During the closing match, Thailand’s Federbrau triumphed over Tianjin
Bridgestone of China, 3-1 (25-13, 25-20, 18-25, 25-22). Thai heavy
hitters Sittirak Onuma and team captain Wilawan Apinyapong reigned in
the scoring department, by contributing 19 points and 17 points
respectively. Despite its smaller line-up, Thailand succeeded in
spraying the Chinese court with attacks from a wide variety of plays.
However, their momentum in the first and second set was quelled by a
Chinese uprising, anchored on Na Yin and Ying Li’s own brand of offense.
China succeeded in demolishing the Thai crew during the third set. The
fourth set saw both teams striving hard to gain each and every point, as
neither team was able to secure a comfortable lead. China tried to inch
closer to a possible fifth set duel, but the Thai attackers continued
to succeed with their attacks during the closing plays of the match.

clinched their third victory with a straight win over Vietnam’s VTV Binh
Dien in Pool B on the third day of the 2010 Asian Women’s Club
Volleyball Championship at the Tri Dharma Gymnasium on Monday.
Meanwhile, JT Marvelous of Japan and Chinese Taipei also emerged
victorious in Pool A, while Tianjin Bridgestone of China defeated
KT&G Ariels of korea for their first win in three outings in the
Pool B.

The winners of the tournament will progress to the FIVB Club World
Championships in Doha, Qatar from December 14-21, joining Italy’s
Bergamo and Prisons Kenya who have already qualified.

Pool A

In the day’s opening match, JT Marvelous of Japan surpassed Zobahan
of Iran in straight sets, 25-15, 25-20, 25-16. JT Marvelous took the
opening set based on their more aggressive offensive plays. Maiko
Sakashita and Keiki Nishiyama were attacking ferociously at the net, and
succeeding, despite Iran’s blocking efforts. Zobahan was likewise doing
its own share of attacks, from team captain Viktoria Brice, but the
team’s poor floor defense resulted in a Japanese win at the end of the
first set. The second set was a more closely fought battle between the
teams. Tatiana Alvez Dossantos got her groove by firing her attacks from
both flanks. Japan, for a time, seemed disorganized and committed
several miscues, but the team later regrouped and took control of the
second set. The third set continued to showcase Japan’s combinations,
with setter Yuki Kawai orchestrating the plays and distributing the ball
to the likes of Yuki Ishikawa and Chihiro Kato. Alvez Dossantos and
Brice continued to score, but could not seem to get the rest of the
Iranian team to help out in the attacking department. The third set
spelled JT Marvelous’ second win in the competition.

Chinese Taipei succeeded in charting its second win by defeating
Petrokimia Gresik Indonesia in straight sets, 25-18, 25-18, 25-16. The
reliable team captain Teng Yen Min showed her scoring prowess early on
in the first set, with attacks from the left side. The local crowd
rallied behind Indonesia, enabling Yolla Yuliyana to connect with
several attacks at the net. But the Indonesians were rather inconsistent
in their offense, and they played poor defense as well. By the second
set, Chinese Taipei was committing its own set of errors on the floor.
Indonesia failed to capitalize on the opportunity to seize the lead with
their uninspired plays and Chinese Taipei pulled away with the second
set. Come third set, the Indonesians were able to capture the lead, and
the crowd continued to show their full support, but Wu Ko Jou’s 15-point
contribution eventually sealed victory for Chinese Taipei by the end of
the third set.

Pool B

China’s Tianjin Bridgestone dominated Korea’s KT&G Ariels 3-0
(25-14, 25-13, 25-13) in a match that lasted a mere 62 minutes. China
relied heavily on their tall line-up to man the net and deny Korea’s
attacks. China’s Ying Li and Xiaoting Zhang were nearly flawless with
their attacks, which only found the Koreans flat-footed on defense.
Korea was also rather monotonous in its offense and failed to utilize
more combination plays, which easily allowed the Chinese defenders to
anticipate their moves. In the third set, Korea tried to regroup, and
capitalized on their opponents’ own share of reception mishaps, but
China proved to be more poised for victory. Na Yin topped the roster of
scorers with a total of 14 points, while Ying Li lorded it over the net
with her blocks, giving China its first taste of victory in the
competition.

Federbrau of Thailand relied mostly on its bench players to cop a
straight-set win over VTV Binh Dien of Vietnam 25-11, 25-19, 25-13.
Amporn Hyapha set the tone for the Thais’ offense by bringing in
unchallenged attacks. As early as the opening set, bench players for
Thailand were being fielded in, a decision which paid off as they were
able to snatch the first set win. Vietnam tried to come close in the
succeeding set as Anaseini Seniloli led the team with her scoring
efforts. However, Em-Orn Phanusit made good use of her floor time and
helped the Thais’ scoring cause with her total contribution of 9 points.
By the third set, Onuma Sittirak took on much of the scoring duties and
finished the match with a total of 11 points. Thailand secured its
third win in the tournament.

the second round with a perfect record after beating their last pool
rival Kazakhstan’s Zhetyssu while the Peoples Republic of Korea Woman’s
Volleyball Team, JT Marvelous of Japan and VTV Binh Dien of Vietnam also
recorded victories on day four of the 2010 Asian Women’s Club
Volleyball Championship here on Tuesday.
The victors of the tournament will advance to the FIVB World Club
Championships in Doha, Qatar from December 14-21, to compete against
Bergamo from Italy and Prisons Kenya, who have already qualified.

POOL A

The PRK Woman’s Volleyball Team took 56 minutes to claim a
straight-sets (25-11, 25-12, 25-14) win over Iran’s Zobahan.

Zobahan started poorly in defense with PRK easily sniping off
reception errors. And while Zobahan could not execute their plays
properly, PRK dazzled the crowd with their combination plays. By the
second set, PRK continued to hammer down their attacks onto the
Iranians, who all remained flat-footed on defense. Kim Yong Mi and Han
Ok Sim consistently converted their attacks for the eventual victors.
The final set was no different, even if Zobahan’s Tatiana Alvez
Dossantos and Zahra L.Vahedi helped resurrect the teams attack. Jong Jin
Sim’s powerful spikes helped PRK see out the match and the victory.

Japan’s JT Marvelous opted to utilize a relatively smaller line-up
for the match against Petrokimia Gresik of Indonesia. The strategy paid
off as Marvelous were able to secure victory in three sets (25-5, 25-10,
25-8).

Chiemi Chiba and Yuki Nishiyama took on the scoring reins for the
Japanese with a total of 12 points each. The Indonesians, on the other
hand, could not orchestrate their plays, as they had difficulty
receiving the ball. There was no clear leader who would serve as the
spark plug for the Indonesians. Petrokimia Gresik coach Laiyan Viktor
tried to suit up his other players in search for other offensive
options, but the Indonesians suffered dearly from their dismal floor
defense. Marvelous’ victory on Tuesday marks their third win in the
competition.

JT Marvelous, PRK and Taipei all collected five points from two wins
and one defeat, followed by host Petrokimia Gresik at four poibts from
one win and two defeats. Iran’s Zobahan finished their pool’s four
matches with five points from one win and three defeats.

POOL B

VTV Binh Dien of Vietnam and KT&G Ariels of Korea opened the
day’s proceedings with a five-set thriller with Dien picking up the win
3-2 (25-19, 16-25, 25-23, 18-25, 15-11) to nab its first victory in the
tournament.

The initial set revealed an aggressive Vietnamese team, who relied on
their simple, yet well-executed plays. The following set saw Korea
fighting back, with Lee Jung Ok and Lee Yeon Joo proving their scoring
skills once more. Vietnam pulled off with a third set win with Dinh Vo
Thi Kim and captain Hoa Nguyen Thi Ngoc putting in precious points for
the team. Korea did not give up though and forced a final set tie-break.
Vietnam pulled away towards victory as they were able to capitalize on
their front line to block off Korea’s attacks. Anaseini Seniloli of
Vietnam topped the scores with 24 points.

The highly anticipated match between Thailand’s Federbrau and
Kazakhstan’s Zhetyssu ended with the former winning in straight sets,
(25-15, 25-18, 25-20). Malika Kanthong, captain Wilawan Apinyapong and
Onuma Sittrak proved to be the inspiration that the Thais needed to
overcome the taller line-up of Kazakh players. Olga Nassedkina played a
good all-around game for Zhetyssu, but she could not gett enough scoring
support from the rest of the team. Nootsara Tomkom’s masterful
orchestration of offense and the team’s excellent defense continued
Thailand’s winning streak in the tournament.

Federbrau earned eight points from a win-and-loss record of 4-0 while
Zhetyssu clinched five points from twowins and one defeat, followed by
China’s Tianjin’s Bridgestone and VTV Binh Dien both at four points from
one win and two defeats. Winless KT&G Ariels of Korea earned only
three points.

Wednesday with JT Marvelous of Japan as Pool A leader, and Federbrau of

teams in the top eight are Woman Volleyball Team of PRK, Tianjin
Bridgestone of China, Zhetyssu of Kazakhstan, Chinese Taipei, Iran’s
Zobahan and Vietnam’s VTV Binh Dien.

POOL A

JT Marvelous of Japan and Woman Volleyball Team of People’s Republic

beating their last rivals on the fifth day of the pool round. but the
Japanese placed top in the pool with better points percentage Chinese
Taipei was third with 6 points followed by Zobahan with five. Host
Petrokimia Gresik finished the last.

JT Marvelous of Japan seized a straight set victory, 25-22, 25-20,
25-18 over Chinese Taipei. The opening set was a closely fought one, as
neither team was able to secure a considerable margin. Ai Inden and
Chiemi Chiba were the usual scoring leaders on the Japanese side, while
team captain Teng Yen Min sparked Chinese Taipei’s offense. JT Marvelous
held on tight in the closing plays of the first set and succeeded. In
the second set, Chinese Taipei played rather lax on defense, unlike
their Japanese counterparts, who dove for each and every attack. Japan’s
excellent floor defense gave them the opportunity to execute their
plays well, and to snatch the second set win. Chinese Taipei tried to
initiate a scoring run in the third set but the Japanese team maintained
their momentum and secured victory in the match. JT Marvelous completed
the preliminary round with four wins in four outings, while Chinese
Taipei charted two wins and two losses.

Woman Volleyball Team of People’s Republic of Korea only needed 54
minutes to claim victory against host Petrokimia Gresik of Indonesia.
PRK’s straight set win of 25-10, 25-12, 25-14 marks their third out of
four matches for the preliminary round. Jong Jin Sim took top scoring
honors for PRK with a match-long contribution of 22 points.. The
Indonesians, on the other hand, suffered from their poor defense, that
even their tall players could not successfully block off PRK’s attacks.
Not even Amalia Fajrina Nabila’s scoring efforts could inspire the rest
of Petrokimia Gresik into surmounting PRK’s poise for victory.

POOL B

Federbrau of Thailand who had a bye on the last day of the
preliminary round, tops the pool with a perfect record. Zhetyssu of
Kazakhstan raked up its third win by defeating KT&G Ariels, 26-24,
25-23, 25-13 and finished second with seven points from three wins and
one defeat.

The Koreans put up a good fight against the Kazakhs in the opening
set by playing good defense, But Zhetyssu had other things in mind, and
anchored most of its offense on Olga Drobyshevskaya, enabling them to
take the initial set. KT&G Ariels, tried to fight back and came
close to stealing the second set, until a costly service error allowed
the Kazakhs to pull away. By the third set, the Koreans seem to have
lost the drive to orchestrate their offense. Their poor defense also did
not help as Zhetyssu came away with the win in straight sets.

Tianjin Bridgestone China easily defeated VTV Binh Dien Vietnam in
three sets, 25-9, 25-20, 25-9, helping them to place third in Pool B
with five points from two wins and two losses.. Huo Jing did much of the
scoring for the Chinese side, that spelled the easy first set win. VTV
Binh Dien stepped up in the second set and was able to take the lead
over the Chinese. The Vietnamese were playing better defense and were
even getting their blocking groove. But the Chinese prevailed with even
stronger attacks that simply broke down the Vietnamese’ defensive
stance. By the third set, Vietnam reverted to their first-set demeanor
and failed to defend against the scoring rampage set by China’s Zhang
Xiaoyu and Zhang Xiaoting. Tianjin Bridgestone split their preliminary
round outings with two wins and two losses.

round of the 2010 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship concluded
on Friday with Tianjin Bridgestone, JT Marvelous, Zhetyssu, and
Federbrau charting victories against their respective opponents to
comprise the semifinal qualifiers at the Tri Dharma Gymnasium.
The tournament’s champions will proceed to the FIVB World Club
Championships in Doha, Qatar from December 14-21, to compete against the
likes of Bergamo of Italy and Prisons of Kenya who have previously
qualified.

In an earlier match for 9th place, KT&G Ariels of Korea defeated
host Petrokimia Gresik of Indonesia in straight sets, 25-14, 25-20,
25-15. The initial set was a sheer display of Korea’s determination to
finish off the tournament on a winning note. Lee Yeon Joo and Baek Mok
Hwa provided the scoring guns and steered the Koreans to a first-set
win. Indonesia tried to level the match in the second set by not
allowing the Koreans to seize a comfortable lead. Petrokimia Gresik was
able to get their confidence going, they were able orchestrate their
plays on Maya Kurnia Indri Sari and Berlian Marsheilla and they
initiated successful blocks as well. However, Korea took the second set
as they were able to quell their opponents’ momentum with their more
consistent brand of offense. The third set proved to be a thriller of
sorts as each was gravely fighting for each point. By the second
technical timeout, Indonesia lost its grip on its endgame, and the
Koreans took the final set as the tournament’s ninth placer.

JT Marvelous of Japan sealed its semifinals appearance by conquering
Vietnam’s VTV Binh Dien in straight sets, 25-12, 25-20, 25-7. Japan was
clearly poised to continue its winning streak by using a relatively
taller line-up for Friday’s match. The 184 cm Yuki Nishiyama from the
Japanese side headed the roster of top scorers by converting her
attacks, blocks and serves into a total of 13 points. Ai Inden and
Chihiro Kato also provided ample scoring support for JT Marvelous, which
proved to be too much for any of the Vietnamese players to contest. The
52-minute match marks the Japanese club team’s five-game winning streak
in the competition.

Federbrau of Thailand also continued its success by winning over
Zobahan of Iran in three sets, 25-12, 25-20, 25-19. Federbrau head coach
Radchatagriengkai used an alternate line-up composed of his younger
players. Onuma Sittirak and team captain Wilawan Apinyapong still
managed to display their trademark scoring armory, but Utaiwan Kaensing
and Em-Orn Phanusit also proved to be scoring threats for the Thais. It
was mostly Tatiana Alvez Dossantos who provided scoring output for
Zobahan, but even the younger Thai players were able to protect the lead
and steer the Federbrau team towards the much-coveted semifinals berth.

A classic five-set battle between teams of nearly equal strength and
determination ensued between Tianjin Bridgestone of China and Woman
Volleyball Team of People’s Republic of Korea. At the end of the
decider, China prevailed 20-25, 26-24, 25-23, 20-25, 15-11, to force a
quarterfinal showdown against Federbrau. Both teams from China and PRK
dazzled the crowd with long rallies, as every player on the floor
pounded and hustled for the ball. The teams’ offensive strategy were
nearly similar, with each one mostly utilizing open spikes and limiting
combination plays. China’s tall frontline vigilantly manned the net,
while PRK played better defense on the floor. By the closing plays of
the deciding set, Tianjin Bridgestone’s formidable blocking spelled the
difference, enabling them to seize the lead towards victory. Ying Li and
Na Yin combined their scoring efforts for a total of 53 points for
Tianjin Bridgestone.

In the final match of the quarterfinal round, Zhetyssu of Kazakhstan
claimed victory against Chinese Taipei in four sets, 25-12, 25-20,
20-25, 25-12, to complete the top four teams in the semifinal round.
Olga Drobyshevskaya proved to be Zhetyssu’s scoring leader once more,
with her prized contribution of 13 points, while team captain Teng Yen
Min rallied behind Chinese Taipei’s bid. The Kazakhs proved to be much
too powerful for Chinese Taipei to handle, specially with scoring
support coming from Sana Jarlagassova. The Chinese Taipei team succeeded
in stealing the third set away from the Kazakhs, when Chen Wan Ting and
Wu Ko Jou started to get into the scoring picture, but Zhetyssu
reverted to its powerful attacking and blocking away to finally come
away with the win. .

Semifinal 1-4: Federbrau (THA) v Tianjin Bridgestone (CHN)

Gresik City, East Java, Indonesia, July 3, 2010 – Federbrau of
Thailand and Zhetyssu of Kazakhstan bested their respective semi-final
opponents China’s Tianjin Bridgestone and Japan’s JT Marvelous to force a
finals showdown at the 2010 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship
at the Tri Dharma Gymnasium here on Saturday.
The competition’s crowned champions shall participate in the FIVB
World Club Championships in Doha, Qatar from December 14-21, to play
against other qualified club teams such as Bergamo of Italy and Prisons
of Kenya.

Federbrau played consistently from start to finish, by using their
powerful attacks that pierced through the blocks of the taller Chinese
players. The Thais took a three set win over Tianjin Bridgestone of
China, 25-16, 25-20, 25-15, in just 58 minutes of game time. Onuma
Sittirak led the Thais with her trademark attacks by scoring a total of
22 points for Federbrau. The usual scoring stalwarts of Tianjin
Bridgestone, such as Na Yin and Ying Li, also marked the match with
their forceful spikes. However, Thailand was doing a better all-around
game, specially with the scoring support provided by Malika Kanthong and
Wilawan Apinyapong.

Radchatagriengkai, Thai head coach, expressed their desire to win the
title, saying “We are a small team but we are faster. Our timing and
rhythm on the blocking, the back-up and counterattack are our strong
points so that is how we will play against Kazakhstan.”

Liu Xiaoming, Chinese head coach, said “Thailand is strong because
they are the national team, and we are a club team, and right now, our
club has four members who are in the national team, so we have younger
players instead.”

Federbrau will play against Zhetyssu for the championship match set
on July 4. Kazakhstan’s club team secured a spot in the finals by
overcoming JT Marvelous in four sets, 19-25, 30-28, 25-23, 25-21. The
Kazakhs, who are known for their power-driven plays, capitalized on its
tall line-up by hammering down their attacks onto the Japanese court.
Zhetyssu further relied on its strong blocking game to beat the smaller,
though quicker Japanese players. The Kazakhs’ strategic defense at the
net paid off, as the team secured 19 points out their blocks.

In an earlier match, Chinese Taipei routed VTV Binh Dien of Vietnam
in straight sets, 25-18, 25-7, 25-18, in an effort to improve its final
standing in this year’s tournament. Team Captain Teng Yen Min proved to
be the fearless scoring leader for Chinese Taipei, by charting a total
of 14 points. But the bigger story lies in Chinese Taipei’s formidable
defense at the net, with the team copping a total of 13 points off their
successful blocks..

In the finals battle for 5th place, Chinese Taipei will face off with
Woman Volleyball Team of PRK, who beat Zobahan of Iran in three sets on
Saturday, 25-15, 25-14, 25-15. PRK played a simpler offensive strategy
and limited their combinations but succeeded in executing their plays
well. Kim Yong Mi stood out this time as PRK’s top scorer with a total
of 17 points. Zobahan’s Zarah L.Vahedi gave out a gallant effort by
taking a scoring stand against the opposing team. But People’s Republic
of Korea proved to initiate too much firepower for Zobahan to handle.

Gresik City, East Java, Indonesia, 04 July 2010 – Federbrau was
crowned as this year’s winner of the 2010 Asian Women’s Club
Championship. The Thai club team beat Zhetyssu of Kazakhstan in four
sets, 21-25, 25-23, 25-11, 26-24, in the finals showdown at the Tri
Dharma Gymnasium on Sunday. As this year’s crowned champions, Federbrau
will join the likes of Bergamo of Italy and Prisons of Kenya for the
FIVB World Club Championships in Doha, Qatar from December 14-21.
True to its promise, Federbrau continued to utilize its strategy of
playing quick and capitalizing on their impeccable timing on their
blocks and counterattacks. However, Zhetyssu was also quick to make
their own adjustments in the initial set. The Kazakhs’ team captain
Tatyana Pyurova did much of the scoring damage that enabled the team to
win the first set. By the succeeding sets, Thailand quickened its pace
and enjoyed team captain Wilawan Apinyapong’s massive scoring
contribution of 23 points. Zhetyssu tried to come close to force the
duel into a decider but Thailand held a firm grip on their game plan and
on their determination to defend the crown.

The battle for the bronze medal was a showdown between two teams,
formidable in both offense and defense. The match was closely fought
that it took the maximum of five sets for JT Marvelous to seize victory,
25-23,20-25, 26-24,14-25,15-11. The Japanese club team, known for its
speed and agility, used their game plan well in order to stage a good
fight against the Chinese. Team captain Maiko Sakashita proved her
leadership skills by rallying behind her team when needed most. Her
scoring contribution of 28 points proved to be a major boost to JT
Marvelous, specially during crucial plays of the match. Tianjin
Bridgestone’s Na Yin also fortified China’s offense with 22 points, and
helped the team steal two sets away from the Japanese. But in the
decider, JT Marvelous encapsulated their positive momentum and came away
with third place.

Woman Volleyball Team of People’s Republic of Korea won the battle
for 5th place over Chinese Taipei in four sets, 25-15, 25-23, 20-25,
25-20. Jon Jin Sim of PRK pursued every opportunity to attack and copped
a total of 21 points. Libero Kim Ok Hui, once again, proved to be the
defensive gem for PRK, as her commendable reception gave rise to many
brilliantly orchestrated plays for the team. Chinese Taipei was steal
the third set away from PRK, through Tsai Yin Feng’s quick attacks. But
PRK proved to be more poised for victory, by running away with the win
by set number four.

VTV Binh Dien of Vietnam came from a set down to beat Zobahan of Iran
, 22-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-18, for this year’s 7th place in the
tournament. The Vietnamese team showed more variation in their offensive
plays, with four players charting double digit points. Team captain Hoa
Nguyen Thi Ngoc and Anaseini Seniloli led VTV Binh Dien’s roster of
scorers, with 18 points each. Zobahan’s Tatiana Alvez Dossantos
countered with her own scoring skills, and her teammates were able to
initiate a good blocking game. But VTV Binh Dien had more consistency in
their offense, making them succeed with more attacks at the net.
