Olympic Games - London 2012 Women (qualification process)

  • Congratulations to Turkish National team, Turkish users and Turkish Nation! Special thanks to the Turkish Volleyball Federation and Bravo to Mr. Erol Karabiyik!!!!
Turkish National team is the most improved team of the last 10 years in the World Volleyball and now they can be called the BEST TEAM OF EUROPE!!!
All the countries and Federations can be jealous! I am personally very jealous! Having such great players does not mean you can have great team!!! Federation job is very important and I think is key moment!
The are a TEAM and for now the BEST TEAM! It was amazing to see them like a family with all of this joy after the victory and writing a new page of history!
    Bravo! Just bravo!

Pin point assessment, you can even make that 10 year to 15 years.

Also a big thank should go to Eczacıbaşı Club for forming the foundations of Turkish Volleyball. Fener and Vakif might be more successfull in Europe and win Championships recently, but they also need to thank Eczaci for the frame and vision they put into volleyball sport.

By the way Eczaci played first final in European Cup in 1979-80 (Champions Cup)and won 1999 Cup Winners Cup in Europe and played many final and won silver and bronze medals in Europe.
Finally by far the best team in domestic league.27 champs in more than 45years. So if Turkey NT is at this level now, that's largely due to their ambitions and hard work.

I myself, thank them a lot.

  • I disagree you :tzz: there is no such huge difference since we will have Britain as weak teams instead of Venezuela

The only difference would be a China without Xue Ming and Wang Yimei is not in the same level of USA-BRA-ITA. Also absence of Cuba, which is 4th of last OG, would be a loss  I have never watch a OG without Cuba and it would be really weird for everyone probably.

P.S: shame on you Cuban Federation and your stupid politics!

Please don't compare value of Venezuela or any further qualified Asian team to Great Britain and don't underestimate China (they will train together for longest period of time). Cuba was legend for decades but in last years everything changed (lack of main golden players) see last WCH and only 12 place !

  • Russia and Serbia will sure get spots on the world qualification. Japan will get the asian spot. KOR/THA will fight for the other.
I can´t imagine something different than that.

thank you very much...it is not bad for Italy if this would be true!

  • what is the fformula in OG? top 4 of each pool and then quarter finals OR top two of the each pool and then semi-finals with cross-matching?

yes - 4 best from each pool into crossed quarterfinals and later semifinals and finals (no matches for 5-8 places)

  • It should based on ranking after all qualification tournaments, so nothing is set till than.

As far as I know the qualification tournament doesn't award points. The continental championships held last year are where the points are awarded.

  • Please don't compare value of Venezuela or any further qualified Asian team to Great Britain and don't underestimate China (they will train together for longest period of time). Cuba was legend for decades but in last years everything changed (lack of main golden players) see last WCH and only 12 place !

It doesn't matter Britain or Venezuela, they both will be beaten by straight sets by all other teams  So what is the difference?

  • No need, Marsh already did.

  • So olympic qualification torn. award poins , right?

  • Today is the day I am most proud to be a Turkish volleyball fan. I have been following this sport for years and spent a remarkable time of my life watching volleyball games. I watched games that our NT won and games that the team lost with a terrible game. There were times that I was very happy with the team's success and times that I was terribly disappointed. But no matter what I never stopped supporting this team, I never stopped watching their games. If they had lost against Poland today, I would be sad for a few days, wouldn't smile much but later I would wait for the next match of our NT impatiently.

It is not easy to be a woman in my country. It is even harder to be a sportswoman in Turkey. You must be mentally strong to overcome all the difficulties coming from the society, your family, media etc. The role of Turkish Women's Volleyball team in Turkey is so important for Turkish people especially for the children. At the moment I've been working as a teacher in an eastern city of Turkey. Children, as usual, have all their passion to do some sports especially volleyball but they don't have a ball to play, a net let alone a gym. They still don't stop dreaming they fight for their dreams and one day they find themselves playing in the most prestigious sports event, Olympic Games.

Here is a photo of the children that I took a few days ago from where I work. They don't have money to buy a net or a real volleyball. They made the net themselves with some kind of ropes.

    And here is their future...

Most of all I am happy for the person in my avatar, a few years ago after the World Grand Prix Qualificiation in Cagliari where Turkey failed to qualify I wrote this for Neslihan

I now see that she will play where she is sopposed to in summer. She will be in London, she will be in Olympic Games.

Thank you Nesli, thank you Turkey Women's National Volleyball Team. :olympia:

  • Thank you very much for this nice writing. The dream of ours came true and hopefully the dream of those children will come true aswell

  • It doesn't matter Britain or Venezuela, they both will be beaten by straight sets by all other teams  So what is the difference?

ooo I see from your post Turkey is almost OG favourite ...
The difference is following - you may find in the same pool one or two weaker teams (for instance host GB and Dominican Rep. or only Thailand/Korea)
(In case all other strong teams will be qualified) Turkey will be forced to play against USA, Brazil, China, Serbia and Thailand/Korea - I don't expect Turkey as 1st or 2nd top place so quarterfinal's opponent should be Italy, Russia or Japan. Is it still easy ?

  • As far as I know the qualification tournament doesn't award points. The continental championships held last year are where the points are awarded.

They do, but they only give out very few points. Those points count as the points from the Olympics and are added to rankings after the Olympics.

  • Bartek must be dissapointed, this EQT-tournament it was no 30+ points by any player and no feeding at all to the Baby. But luckily enough, Pavan scored 32p yesterday so he was feeded with something at least this week :win:
