  • i wonder if this has something to do with louise bawden being fivb's new athletes' commission president.

she trains beach volley coaches. iirc she was in cuba last jan or feb with that charity guy that did a campaign with boskovic yuki ishikawa bruno etc.

I wonder if it came from the coaches commission.

Shannon Winzer has been very outspoken on it. She's the secretary on the commission under Guidetti.

In both volleyball and beach volleyball, a new interpretation of the double touch rule was approved for testing. Double contact will be allowed during the setting action, provided the ball remains on the same side of the court, with faults only called for two clear consecutive touches. For balls played into the opponent’s court, as well as catches and lifts, the current interpretation will still apply. In volleyball, this new rule interpretation will be applied during the VNL 2025, then assessed before wider application across events. Meanwhile, in beach volleyball, it will be applied at the Gstaad Elite, Montreal Elite, Brazil Challenge and Baden Challenge, before being applied more widely.

    and there's also this:

In volleyball, to reduce sudden rally interruptions, teams will no longer be able to request a mid-rally Challenge. Instead, teams can request a Challenge at the end of rally to review the referees’ decision regarding any action during the rally, including the service.

we have this relaxed double touch rule in the Netherlands on the non-top levels. As a setter myself it’s unfortunate to see that setters used to have very good to sublime technique and those days are over. Anyone can become a setter now. Basically all setups are tolerated as long as the ball goes the direction it’s intended.

great, helicopter balls. Get trying to continue plays, but ball needs some control by the setter, whoever sets the ball. Easiest way to tell control, little spin on the ball.

  • Rules changing from February 2026:

    1. Each national team may have only two naturalized players on its wide roster.

    2. A player who plans to change federation must reside in the new country for at least three years or hold its citizenship for at least three years.

    3. If a player has already played an official match at the junior or senior level, he/she cannot switch federation.

Out of rotation error – free positioning of the receiving team

I'm against increasing the side-out rate because it would make volleyball less interesting.

    “Push–carry–catch–throw-tip” attack

This is also a pretty significant rule change. Height will probably become a more important factor.

I never agreed with banning Russians and Belarusians from competing in the first place, but of course, the US and Israeli flags should also be banned. It's not fair.

  • I had an Idea ten years ago and still think it could be awesome, to get 2 points from ace serving. Crazy to think for me.

  • Lol

Can you please stop leaving stupid comments and say in whole sentences when you have something to say, thank you.

It would make the game less fun because teams would focus on risk serves like jump serves which would end up very high error ratios like what's happening in make volleyball. Sometimes there 5-6 rotations back to back both teams' servers are missing their serves, then it is really boring to watch the game

  • No it would make much fun cuz risking serve will be rewarded. And also it will balance players who are making more errors.

  • Looks promising :P In any case, this previews and kameras etc, everthing is far better than europe im sure. Considerung Türkish league still broadcasting like with 144p kameras

Risking serve=a lot of errors. You realize this, right? More errors or aces mean that game is ongoing without any rallies. What is the point of giving so much emphasis on only one single element of the game? There's no logic to defend it compared to let say a monster blocks or attacking in 3 meter line etc. you can see how male volleyball has already enormous amount of serving error, which makes the game slower and more boring
