Interview with Yaima Ortiz:

1 .- How did you get started in volleyball?
I started in volleyball at the age of 9 years. I already had the blood sport in the inheritance of my fathers, who were members of the national basketball teams in our country ... it was not yet defined what would be my specialty. So it all started ... I started training in a special area near the elementary school, participating in competitions Pioneer. Then, I spent 10 years at the School Sports Initiation Schools (EIDE) Martyrs of Barbados. From 1996 to 1999 participated in competitions both FIVB, World, etc.. in the cadet and youth. Many memories of that stage!

2 .- Did you have any idol or reference player when you started?

But in my life I have an example of player I admire a lot: My Mother.
3 .- What do you think are your best qualities as a player? How do you define yourself?
I define a player who gives everything on the court. My best feature in volleyball game I think would be the heart, there goes everything.
4 .- How does it feel to play the Olympics with the selection of your country?
My first Olympics were in Athens 2004. I define as any one stage much sacrifice, and that after 2000 nearly all players in the team decided to rest his career, retiring, and so on. Just assumed the role of continuing Yumilka Ruiz, Zoila Barros and Martha Sanchez, whom I admire very much because it was a very hard for them.
