They will be joined by South Africa and Congo Brazzaville.

The drawing of lots was attended by Morocco Volleyball Association president and the head of the organizing committee Abdelhadi Ghzali, SOC delgate Mory Kieta, referee delegate Hassan Ahmed and most of the Morocco Volleyball Federation board members.

Tunisia are the record holders in terms of the number of titles to their name, with eight cups since the tournament began in 1976. Egypt have captured the crown five times, including the last three editions. Both Algeria and Cameroon have won the title twice.

The defending champions Egypt outclassed South Africa easily in straight sets (25-12, 25-14, 25-16), while the 2011 All Africa Games gold medalists, Cameroon fought for two hours to overcome the record holders for the number of crowns, Tunisia in a five set Marathon 3-2 (25-18, 20-25, 25-17, 23-25, 15-9).
The Algerian team was put in a critical situation against the new comers Congo Brazzaville before they won in a tight game 3-1 (25-19, 19-25, 25-15, 25-20). In front of the home crowd of 2800 spectators the organizers Morocco downed the struggling Botswana 3-0 (29-27, 25-18, 25-12)

The opening ceremony was held the night before the start of the competition schedule on Thursday and was attended by most of Morocco volleyball Federation Board members and the CAVB Control committee as well as the local authorities in Tanger city.

Cameroon beat Tunisia 3-2 (25-18, 20-25, 25-17, 23-25, 15-9)

Cameroon used the experience and physical fitness of their stars to take on the favorite Tunisian team in a long five set Marathon 3-2 (25-18, 20-25, 25-17, 23-25, 15-9) lasting for two hours. Morocco supported by 2800 spectators trounced Botswana 3-0 (29-27, 25-18, 25-12) in an exciting encounter lasting 77 minutes. Botswana surprised the local crowd with their fighting spirit in the first set as they led many times before Morocco came back late to win the exciting set and then they continued their high performance to win the second and third sets in an easier way.
The first set was the most thrilling set of the opening day as Botswana led continuously till they had a 5 point deficit 20-15 when Morocco extracted all the power and used the powerful spikes of Mohamed Hachdadi from position two to decrease the gap gradually till they won the set after a great struggle 29-27.
Morocco decreased their mistakes in the second set and started also to use the middle blockers in fast attacks that disturbed Botswana players and thus they went through to win also the third set.

Egypt beat South Africa 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 25-16)

The strong spike services of the Egyptian duo Abdalla Ahmed and Ahmed Salah guided the defending champions Egypt to win their first match against South Africa 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 25-16) in 64 minutes.
After South Africa won the first point, the Egyptian setter Abdalla came to serve 13 successful aces to bring his team ahead 13-1, before they continued their way towards 16-2 score at the second TTO. With the relative improvement in the South African performance in reception and digging they succeeded to decrease the point deficit to 22-11 before winning the set 25-12.
The South African team improved their service in the second set specially the opposite spiker Clinton Stemmet and succeeded to put a pressure upon the Egyptians, but quickly the Egyptian setter Ahmed Abdalla led the combinations to allow his team to regain the wide advance to win the set 25-14.
Egypt coach Sherif El Shemerly made a lot of substitutions and almost changed most of the standing players and succeeded to continue the same but with less point deficit as South Africa came to the closest margin.

Algeria beat Congo Brazzaville 3-1 (25-19, 19-25, 25-15, 25-20)

Algeria overcame the sluggish start to cruise past the surprising Congo Brazzaville team 3-0 (25-19, 19-25, 25-15, 25-20) in 89 minutes. It wasn’t easy for the last All Africa Games silver medalists to win the match specially after the emerging Congo team draw 1-1 till the prominent stars in the Algerian team took the matter seriously to win the third and fourth sets.
Algeria started the match as the better side as they used the experience of the opposite Mehdi Hachemi and Ali Kerboua to lead comfortably in the first set. After the second technical timeout Algeria used the quick attacks of the middle blockers to win the first set 25-19. The second set showed a completely different picture as Congo played their best in serving and attacking through captain Gildas Kouehassazo and the wing spiker Urbain Nkounkou who sent his unstoppable hits from position 4 to lead his team to draw 1-1. Algeria regained their rhythm in attacks and backline defense and succeeded to win the third and fourth sets but after an exciting fight from the surprising Congo team.

Tangier, Morocco, September 25, 2011 - Defending champions Egypt as well as Algeria and Tunisia all booked their places in the semifinals of the 2011 Men’s African Nations Championship in Tangier, Morocco on Sunday as the qualifying tournament for the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup was cut down to the final four.

The three sides now join Cameroon in the next phase of the tournament, which doubles as a qualifier for the World Cup, set to take place in Japan from November 20 to December 4. The eventual champions will move onto the Olympic qualifying event, with the top three from there earning a berth at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Cameroon will now face Algeria while Egypt take on Tunisia on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Morocco will line up against South Africa and Congo Brazzaville combat Botswana for the 5 to 8 standings.

Sunday featured a third victory for Cameroon in Pool A as they swept past Botswana 3-1 (25-17, 25-23, 23-25, 25-16) to lead the pool, while Tunisia followed up after trouncing the hosts 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-19).

Egypt top Pool B with the a win-loss record of 3-0 following their straight sets (25-16, 25-18, 27-25) victory over Congo Brazzaville and were joined by Algeria who sealed a win over South Africa 3-0 (25-18, 25-7, 25-16).

The third day was attended by over 3,000 spectators who were hoping for a Morocco win but left disappointed by their team’s performance.

Pool A
Cameroon v Botswana
All Africa Games gold medallists Cameroon had to fight for 96 minutes to pull off a difficult victory over Botswana 3-1 (25-17, 25-23, 23-25, 25-16). The Cameroon coach replaced some of the side’s leading players to give them rest ahead of the semifinal and his team started well, but the performance decreased thereafter as they lost the third set after Botswana used their efficient quick attacks.

However Cameroon came back to win the fourth set 25-16 after they arranged their attacks through David Feughoud and Jean Ndongo.

Tunisia v Morocco
Tunisia used the experience of setters Mahdi Ben Cheikh and Noureddine Hfaied to clinch a second victory in Pool A, this time over hosts Morocco 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-19) in front of 3,000 supporters.

Tunisia improved their record to 2-1 to finish second and qualify for the semifinals while Morocco dropped to 1-2 to be ranked third and play for the 5 to 8 positions.

Tunisia had a good start with outside hitter Ismail Moalla spiking well and Ahmed Kadhi constantly blocking as Tunisia went ahead 8-6 at the first TTO. Morocco improved their blocking through Mohssine Berdade to stay near until Tunisia won the set 25-23.

The second set saw Morocco lead up until 6-2 when the Tunisian opposite Marouen Garci spiked well, aided by Moalla to draw level at 14-14. Tunisia then scored eight successive points before clinching the set. Morocco began to allow mistakes to creep into their game in the third and the Tunisians pounced as they sailed to victory.

Egypt v Congo Brazzaville

Egypt continued their clean sheet as they flew past Congo Brazzaville 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 27-25) in 68 minutes.
The win means the side finish the pool with a win-loss ratio of 3-0 secure a semifinal ticket while Congo dropped to 1-2 to finish third and play for the 5 to 8 rankings.

Egypt started the match with their main line up and used their talent to take a big win in the first set. Congo played better in the second through the work of blockers Ngampourou and Dallet Kouka as they stayed close before Egypt managed to pull away. The third set saw Congo go ahead through captain Gildas Kouehassazo but failed with two set points before Egypt pounced to take the win.

Algeria v South Africa
Algeria took little time to seal a straight sets (25-18, 25-7, 25-16) win over South Africa, sweeping past their rivals in just 59 minutes.

Algeria improved their win-loss record to 2-1 to finish second in the pool while South Africa ended the preliminary round winless.

The Algerian coach changed his main line up and played with the second team to allow his star players a chance to rest ahead of their semifinal. The side advanced steadily from the first set through a strong spike service which was key as they took an early 1-0 lead. The second set saw Algeria flex their muscles even more through the hits of Toufik Mahdjoubi and Massinissa Azem. The third set was much of the same despite a little more resistance from the South Africans.
