2012 Olympic Games

  • lol i guess u got it pretend i thought turkey couldnt reach QF,i tried to say firstly turkey should reach QF it wont be so easy
thinking about QF opposite is nonsense when nothing is certain

Sorry, nowadays too many people are tend to despise Turkey's chance in OG, I thought you are one of them :wall:

Anyway it is true that not only China but also Serbia and Korea are strong opponents and their level are close to Turkey's level, but still I believe that we will be able to beat them, after Edison tournament we would have better guess about teams shape

yeah its ok :drink: i also think that if turkey faces with italy in QF turkey wins but as i said its group is really hard and even serbia seems the weakest opponent cause of injuries,it can make a 'bad' surprise to turkey too
imo edisson cup doesnt show the reality but it can be a guess still

  • Who cares about group stage? hahahaha kidding :win:

    Hehe ;)

But about Japans chances against USA, I really think the asians fast game can be a bad match-up for the americans, and they obviously have a little advantage mentally now after this matches, and know they can beat them. But with that said, there is two things that really speaks against them. First of all, the matches in WCH and World Cup was played in Tokyo in front of huge crowd support. Japan always seems to play worse outside Asia. Second is that their shape so far this year been bad. They lost against Korea in world qualies, and in straight sets against Russia doing much more errors than them, and its worrying I think. Obviously I also hope they can pull an upset, but right now its hard to see :(

  • The mistery is solved...

Today LOCOG released the list of all the athletes that are listed in 2012 London Olympic Games, and a brasilian report, seeing that list descover the players Zé included in the final list of 2012.

The players out would be Sassá and Camila Brait!

    S: Fernandinha, Dani Lins
    Opp: Sheilla, Tandara
OH: Jaqueline, Fernanda Garay, Paula Pequeno,Natália
    MB: Fabiana, Thaísa, Adenisia
    L: Fabi

Some between Camila and Sassá will fly to London together with the group in case NAtália does not recover.

  • oh no i have no problems with mari's exclusion but not camila brait ;(

  • Sassá just got cut.
Zé Roberto is taking Camila Brait as the step for Natália if she doesn´t recover in time for the final rosters, July 26th.

  • In terms of planning, Zé Roberto and Brazil's coaching staff need to improve a lot. It is just ridiculous what happened to Brazil's team this Olympic cycle.

    1) First of all, in 2009 he didn't intend to have Fabiola as the setter of Brazil's team and then, in 2010, she becomes the main setter of Brazil in the World Championship.
The same happens to Fernandinha, why both of these players were not in the roster since 2009? I remember that in the 2009 World Champions Cup Ana Tiemi was the main setter of Brazil's team.

    2) Playing with the main players in the 2010 World Grand Prix final round was pretty stupid, the team lost both Paula and Mári for the World Championship and they could have helped Brazil in the World Championship if they didn't get injured. The team was not as strong as it could be because of injury problems which occurred just a few months before the World Championship.

    3) In 2011, he decided to call the main team to play the Pan Am Games. Jaqueline suffered a terrible injury and Fernanda Garay got injured as well. Having to play just a few weeks before the World Cup instead of training and trying to improve caused Brazil's team lots of problems in the World Cup, and that is why the team was not able to qualify for the London OG already in this tournament. Lots of injuries and players out of their best form.

    4) Because of that, instead of practicing and trying to improve as a team, Brazil's team had to waste time playing against weak teams in the South American Qualification Tournament, which didn't help the team at all in its preparation to the London OG. Now, instead of getting ready for the London OG, the team is still defining which players to bring. Some players are practicing and won't play the OG, this is waste of tine in the team preparation and fine tuning for London. What's more, with a new setter in the starting six which didn't even have the chance of playing against the best teams in the World. If Brazil's team plays against Russia in the OG, it will be Fernandinha's first match ever against such a strong team.

In my opinion, the US team is by far the favourites for winning the Gold Medal in the London OG. If Brazil's team could play well enough to try to level the match against USA it will be a good thing already. I don't expect anything better than a Silver Medal, that will be too good already. At least considering the way Brazil's team prepared for the OG.

  • Very accurate analysis and I agree with everything you say. It also reminds me of Karpol's criticism of Caprara after Russia's failure in 2008. He said that it's a big mistake that in 2007, Sheshenina was completely out of the team and 2008 she suddenly was starting setter and even captain as far as I remember. Similar situation in Brazil now, Fabiola was starting setter for most of the time in the last few years, Dani Lins never showed any performance that justifies her nomination (at least none that I remember), and as you say Fernandinha is completely new in the team even though she is an experienced player on club level. We will see what Brazil can do, but as you say, the road to Gold Medal is most likely blocked by USA.

  • Taking Fabi and Natalia is just a bad taste joke! The chosen players should be Camila Brait and Sassá.

Zé Roberto is taking Natália because of her ability to score points in attack and her subs are two players which are specialist in defending?
Why not keeping Mari in the team then in case Natalia doesn't recover?

Such a choice has no logic at all.

I feel really sad for Camila Brait, she's a great player, her form is much better than Fabi's.

It will be sad to see Brazil's team losing to Russia, Italy or USA with service mistakes made by our libero.

  • I agree with the points above, last year to me there is no reason why the a team of brazil was sent to the pan am games it should have been a mix team just like what the us team did so that injuries might be prevented.

  • Ze Roberto choices are strange... I'm really disappointed :read:

  • There are two possibilities for Brazil's team roster:
    Zé Roberto's #1 option:

    S: Dani Lins - Fernandinha
    OPP: Sheilla - Tandara
OH: Fernanda Garay - Jaqueline - Natália - Paula Pequeno
MB: Adenízia - Fabiana - Thaísa
    L: Fabi

    or

    Zé Roberto's #2 option:

    S: Dani Lins - Fernandinha
    OPP: Sheilla - Tandara
OH: Fernanda Garay - Jaqueline - Paula Pequeno
MB: Adenízia - Fabiana - Thaísa
    L: Camila Brait - Fabi

If I were the coach I would chose:

    S: Fabiola - Fernandinha
    OPP: Sheilla - Tandara
OH: Fernanda Garay - Jaqueline - Paula Pequeno - Marianne Steinbrecher
MB: Adenízia - Fabiana - Thaísa
    L: Camila Brait

  • I can't agree with you more

  • Your choice is definitely the best among these teams. I don't think so that Natália will recover on time. Cutting Mari out for me is a joke. Camila Brait also desrves much more for place in roster than Fabi, what she showed during this whole season, she's better digger and not worse receiver. Taking Fernandinha instead Fabiola also is a bit risky and I also think that Dani should be out. I still don't get Ze's choices for setter since Beijing - one from Fabiola/Fernandinha should be main setter since 2008 (and both should be in team), not Ana Tiemi who is now only 4th or even 5th. Your analysis of team's situation in this olympic cycle perfectly showed bad decisions, I hope that it won't give bad results in London ;(

Gold medal - World League 2013 Prediction Game
Bronze medal - World League 2012 Prediction Game

  • I agree with you about not sending the main players to the Pan Am games, but the thing is that in 2007 we lost the final match to Cuba in a very, very dramatic way. We had 2x1 and lost the 4th set but could have won, and we had chance to win the tie break too. The worst part was that the Pan Am games were AT HOME at that time, so they kind of "needed" this gold medal...

  • Neriman Ozsoy has a back injury from WGP and currently she has some treatments in Istanbul.Hope it's not serious  but seems like she is not worrying much about it according to her twitter.

  • Guys, do you know if during the OG pool phase, the scoring system will be the same as in FIVB?

Like 3-0, 3-1 victories 3 points, 3-2 victory to points and so on? Or will be like before? victory 2 points and defeat 1?
