Apalikov got red, so one point for Italy. Spiridonov got yellow-red which is what red card was until last year, he was expelled but no point for Italy.

No, yellow is just a warning now, red is what yellow used to be, yellow-red shown with the same hand is what red used to be and yellow-red shown with both hands is expulsion for the whole match.

By the way, I think FIVB should consider some punishments for tournaments, adding up cards of players to ban them for matches as it is done in football. How many yellow and red cards did Spiridonov get in WL this year? Probably enough to have him banned for the whole final round if there was such a thing

Well, the punishment for yellow-red is that the player must leave the court. Point punishment is only for red card, as has been only for yellow card in the past.

Yeah just like their women's team, Russian male team has changed a lot, but to be fair, only Spiridonov and occasionally Apalikov are negative examples.
