2013 World Grand Champions Cup for Women

  • I know you have nothing against her.. I am asking you why do you think she is a very weak passer... Can you compare her with some others? What do you mean by 'very weak passer'.. I'll mention some players dividing them in 3 categories.. And so it doesn't come to any confusion every player is in that category because it's her's normal way of playing.. meaning she is not performing better or worse for a short period

    1. Great passers - Logan, Del Core, Esra Gumus, Gozde Sonsirma, Jaque, Werblinska, Larson
    2. Good/OK passers - Piccinini, Sokolova (nowadays, last few years) Havelkova, Hildebrand
    3. Bad passers - Kim Glass, Megan Hodge, Neriman Oczoy, Vasileva

So I hope you get me now what am I trying to say.. She is not a great passer who passes perfect and cover the court but she is neither a player you get's aced or passes the balls in the back of the court.. I just agree that her passing is not suitable for this USA system.. I was working last years WGP 2012 and it is working in Amil... together with Natalia, another not so good passer or bad passer if you will.. So overall I think she is not a bad passer

    Great passers: Logan Tom

Good passers: Barboza, Mancuso, Danielson, Newcombe, Larson, Lichtman

Unstable passers: Fonoimoana, Hood, Hildebrand, Hill,

    Bad passers: Klineman, Willoughby

    Death of reception: Hodge

Hildebrand is totally unstable passer. In the last games she was terrible to me.

  • Japan - Dominican Republic 3:0!! It's amazing - Japan with medal ! :dance6: :cheesy:
Tomorrow matches will be decided. USA should beat Dominican Rep. for 3 points, so match Japan vs Brasil would be very interesting!

Possibilities (If USA win over Dominican 3:0 or 3:1) - it's very probably

2:3 or 3:2 in the last match -> Japan with silver, Brasil with gold
1:3, 0:3 for Japan -> Japan with bronze, Usa with silver, Brasil with gold
3:1 for Japan -> Japan with silver , Brasil with gold (little points ratio)
    3:0 for Japan -> 1. Japan, 2. Brasil, 3.USA

    がんばれ 日本!

  • I

I know, that brazilian team is so strong, but we can't forget that this tournament take place in Japan, so everything can happen. I hope, that Hinotori Nippon give us a lot of good emotions. If japanese team will play like during match against Russia, they have a chance to get a silver or... gol medal! I hope, that Brazil will lose  but it'll be so difficult

    Go to win Nippon! :box:

  • Can someone past here link to match Japan - Dominican Republic? Thanks :rose:

  • The final match will make history. If Brazil succeed, it'll be the first team to win Grand Champions Cup twice over. If Japan succeed, it'll be their first FIVB's championship since 1977 World Cup.

In my opinion, the japanese team is the best serve team in the world right away. Awesome skilled players blended with great strategy in this fundamental. I think reception is about to be key to success to Brazil. Without Jaque, the team don't have the same consistency while Japan is very good with their float.
Other issue to Brazil is Fabíola. Dani Lins sets are precise while Fabíola sets aren't often. I'm telling that because hit over the japanese block with full power is very important what usually happens with precise sets. When sets aren't precise and hitters have to tip or can't hit using all strength and must do so without breaking a sweat, that's child's play to japanese great diggers.

To stress my point, I'll call up some history of Brazill vs Japan in recent years.
All time Brazil played with Dani Lins, we succeed in 3 or 4. Every time Zé lined-up Fabíola as the main setter, matches against Japan were a battle and we lost 2 in three.

    Dani Lins
    World Grand Prix
    2009 - Pool H: Brazil 3X1 Japan
    2009 - Final round: Brazil 3X1 Japan
    2010 - Pool A: Brazil 3X0 Japan
    2011: Pool C: Brazil 3X0 Japan
2011: Final round: Brazil 3X0 Japan
2013: Final round: Brazil 3X0 Japan
    Olympic Games
    2012: Brazil 3X0 Japan

    Brazil 7-0 (2 in 4 and 5 in 3)

    Fabíola
    World Grand Prix
    2010 - Final round: Brazil 2X3 Japan
    World Championship
    2010 - Brazil 3X2 Japan
    World Cup
    2011 - Brazil 0X3 Japan

Japan 2-1 (1 in 5 to Japan, 1 in 5 to Brazil and 1 in 3 to Japan)

Anyway, I expect a great match and mainly I do for Brazilian receivers and Fabíola. :win:

  • BRA 2-0 JPN and wins gold medal.

this system is so stupid. USA could finish 3rd if JPN wins 2 sets from BRA yet USA is 4-1 and JPN would finish 3-2 and still finish 2nd. this makes no sense.

congrats to THA. really, RUS? you couldn't spike your way over a much shorter opponent? according to fivb, they tied in blocks!!!!! how's that possible?????

(why must fivb always have cheerleaders in their matches, and why are they always just women? so sexist.)

also, the listed beginning times for the matches are wrong. i just missed a set and a half because of the wrong timing on fivb website...

btw, tony, thanks for all your info and links... very helpful and much appreciated.
