Olympic Games - Brazil 2016 (qualification process)

  • Nothing's official yet. From CEV website:

There is the same text as women's news. 4 days after the ECH is confirmation process for the tournament, It's not the pools composition announcement date. You can see nothing until now about women's competition. The same as men's.

  • And it is actually extremely clear and simple this time. Obviously there has been no draw and the updated European rankings has been applied. So no draw was needed and all speculations were futile.

It turns out that Poland's loss to Slovenia in the ECH finally resulted in a balanced grouping in OGQ. Imagine if Poland had won a medal in the ECH and got placed ahead of Bulgaria in the CEV ranking, what would the grouping look like...

Now both Poland and Russia and maybe even France all benefit from this loss, but I believe Poland didn't intentionally lose for this

  • We have a schedule:

Gruppe A: Germany, Poland, Serbia, Belgium
Gruppe B: Russia, Bulgaria, France, Finland

    05.01.: FIN – RUS (15.00) / BEL – GER (18.00) / SRB – POL (20.30)
    06.01.: BUL – FIN (15.00) / GER – SRB (18.00) / RUS – FRA (20.30)
    07.01.: POL – BEL (15.00) / BUL – RUS (18.00) / FRA – FIN (20.30)
    08.01.: SRB – BEL (14.00) / FRA – BUL (17.00) / POL – GER (20.00)
    09.01.: Halbfinale 1 (16.30) / Halbfinale 2 (19.30)
    10.01.: Spiel um Platz 3 (13.30) / Finale (16.30)

The times might still change due to TV demands.

By now, it looks like, that there won't be a special tournament website. You can find some information in english language here: http://www.volleyball-verband.…8jd3s3kel0ghuh541p6beqks2

  • Forget about woman's tournament, this European qualification tournament will be a crazy one ;) So many possibilities , so many doubts.
Muzerskiy's decision to skip this tournament is a major blow for Russia .It is a big controversial decision. I find it hard to believe, maybe another trick of Alekno???

  • I don't know what to think about it ?( weird action just before QOT...

Gold medal - World League 2013 Prediction Game
Bronze medal - World League 2012 Prediction Game

  • Pretty much kills his chances for going to Rio too in case Russia qualifies, right? It'd be awkward if they did and he was called back to the team. I'm sure people would find it unfair.

  • so situation is soved fortunately to Russia :D

Gold medal - World League 2013 Prediction Game
Bronze medal - World League 2012 Prediction Game

  • Latest news; Muzerskiy has taken a back step; says he won't come to trainings but he is ready to perform at Olympic qualification tournament if necessary :?: ( It is of course necessary  )
He claims he had a meeting with Alekno and vice-president of Russian federation and they promised him there won't be any sanction so Shevchenko's remarks surprised him.
There will be a meeting in early February to discuss his situation, Russian federation can ban him from competing in Russian league this season.

  • First friendly match GER-RUS 1:3 (27-29, 21-25, 28-26, 20-25)
GER started with P. Steuerwald, Dünnes, Kromm, Kaliberda, Böhme, Broshog, Tille. All players except Grozer who just returned from Korea entered the court. Best scorers were Simon Hirsch (13) and Robert Kromm (9). Russia was clearly stronger in block and attack.
The teams will play another match tomorrow.

  • 2nd match GER-RUS 1:3 (22-25, 33-31, 21-25, 29-31)

4 of 8 sets between the teams went beyond 25 pts :what:

Germany today started with Kampa, Dünnes, Schwarz, Kaliberda, Broshog, Böhme, M. Steuerwald. Grozer again did not play. Best scorers were Simon Hirsch (13) and Sebastian Schwarz (10). Vital Heynen will announce the final roster on Saturday or Sunday.

  • None available.

Robert Kromm is out for the tournament due to an abdominal injury he suffered in the 1st match. It's quite ironic, they made such a big fuss about his comeback and now it's cancelled :D Oh well, at least German team has a good excuse if they fail in the tournament, now there are already 3 injured players...

  • Interesting results from the Belgian team:
they played the French team twice (28/12, 29/12) and remained undefeated.
Apparently, a lot of errors in serve an attack by the French team.

I like the fact that Belgian coach Bayens keeps his preference for Rousseaux as 2nd outside hitter.
The Belgian team misses Depestele (injury), Verhanneman (just turned father of twin son and daughter),
Dejonckheere and Colson (cancelled out of fear for injury, much to coach Baeyens' dissatisfaction).

    1st game, Tours: 0-3 (23-25, 22-25, 18-25)

Ngapeth 14, Rouzier 17, Le Roux, Le Goff, Toniutti, Tillie, libro Grebennikov
Valkiers 1, Deroo 12, Verhees 8, Van Walle 14, Rousseaux 3, Van de Voorde 5, libero Ribbens. (Klinkenberg 3, D’Hulst, Van de Velde)

    2nd game: 2-2 (21-25, 19-25, 25-18, 25-19)

1st set, both teams with starting line-up.
2nd set, French substitutes against first Belgian line-up
    3th and 4th: all substitutes.

I hope the Belgian team will manage to surprise at least 1 team (Poland, Germany, Serbia).
I think the short preparation makes the overall result definitely less predictable.
