Olympic Games - Brazil 2016 (qualification process)

  • This report from FIVB says only 3rd place from Soulth American tournament and 3rd place from Norceca go to the Intercontinental Quali... so what is right? this thing is a mess!!!! :hit:

  • Just ONE southamerican team goes to the easy tournment. It means Colombia is the one who will play against 2nd and 3rd african team and the 3rd from Norceca, probably Puerto Rico. The Intercontinental tournment (aka, easy tournment) is played only by 4 teams.

Well, I was suggested by pictures from 1st page of this thread what say that 2nd from NORCECA and CSV go to Japan, while 3rd & 4th from both go to easy tournament :!: or maybe they changed minds and reduced place of vacancies for this QOT from 6 to 4

I think they did change the rules....after everyone was complaining everyone in Norceca was already qualified and that 4th place in Europa didnt have same chance and so on...Not that this change makes this Intercontinental anything less stupid. :cursing:

  • They certainly changed it a long time ago, I'm sure this time last year it said that the intercontinental tournament would have 4 teams.

It would have been beyond gross if the 4th ranked North or South American team still had a chance to qualify while the 4th European didn't.

    Yes.

Thuogh if you stop to think about it, its still gross, when 3º place in Norceca for example have a easier road than the second place? And that any Europeans will have that kind of chance as well.....why a world tournament that gives privilege only to few continents to participate but not all...It should have at least one represent from each continent.... I mean, makes no sense..... :wall:

  • Tokyo '20 will have a different qualifying system, ECh '19 will serve as a European qualifier and there won't be a special European qualifying tournament.
Hopefully it's a step in the right direction.

Is this already a done deal? I just read that Boricic wants it this way but I don't remember understanding this as definitve.

  • yeah and of course, what's gonna happen to the WC since hosts JPN are already qualified? are they still gonna host WC or is it finally going somewhere else?

anyway, all of this bitching is going nowhere, since the way ITA and TUR are playing, they might have a hard time beating DOM, PUR, KOR,THA at this point.

  • i have not had a chance to watch many of these matches unfortunately but i noticed TUR lost to ITA but scored 10 more points (109-99), so it was a crazy uneven match. heartbroken because TUR is one of my favorite teams, as is ITA, but such is life. and euro teams aren't playing that impressive these days. actually so few teams are , except CHN, USA, RUS and SER.

  • I still can't really believe it.. I'm so happy that the girls managed to arrive 3rd in this tournament, I think that they couldn't have done more than that. We were nearly out after Belgium, so now it's a sort of paradise! :dance6: I know we aren't qualified yet, and that there is going to be a hard tournament waiting for us in May, but for tonight I just want to thank these girls and cheer them.. Although all the difficulties, the little experience, the quick preparation, the flu, players out of shape...WE MADE IT!

Never never never I would have said that this tournament would have been so important for our youngest players, basically unknown till last summer. I hope their development will continue, as we need a new fresh generation, the old is basically gone, while there a lot of players in the years in between (88-93) that didn't have so many possibilities with the NT and now they can't compete at this level.
Orro is such a talented girl, as setter I really like her, I hope all the best to her...and more over she is so cute and nice

DEL CORE: I'll never stop saying how much this player is fundamental for our NT. She may have not been excellent in some matches but all the dark work in the back row she made let us go on, she tried to put some order and discipline in this young Italy that had its moment of deconcentration. Moreover when it counted the most, she killed the decisive balls in the tie break, showing she's still a good weapon in attack, if the system in reception let her think also to that. To me the best player today, and a big thank to her for all the effort she has put in the games!

Bonitta: I was doubtful about the callings, i didn't like the confusion there was in the starting six, with so many changes..but he was right in many decisions, he was brave and his decision payed off. Now I'll try to consider his decisions from a different point of view, as I'm just here writing on a block, while he knows the players better than me.

About Turkey... Of course I'm sorry for the girls as they won't be in Rio, but sincerely I must say that their tournament has been a failure. They won two games out of five, one was against a disastrous Croatia... They lost against Netherlands without fighting basically, agains Russia (and this is the only defeat I can "justify") and today against Italy.. They played with their crowd supporting but still couldn't close the match. I didn't like Gozde that much, nor Aydemir. Darnel has put much effort, but they couldn't avoid the fact that she is an OPP and was receiving, while Ozsoy not. Norman made many points but has been blocked so many times.. If we want to make a comparison, Egonu didn't receive at all but spiked much better (at least with less crucial mistakes), the reception was with two players, on the turkish side the reception was with three (bad match for Karadayi, I don't like her!) but Neriman made important mistakes. The players are strong but maybe something has changed: many of them achieved important victories throughout the last years with the club, but with the NT they didn't do anything..maybe it is better to regain the humility and the eye of the tiger they had in 2011-2012.. and a better coach too!

  • World Cup for 2019 may still be played in Tokyo as a warm-up event for the Olympics. If not then, it will be placed in China, Brazil, Italy, Turkey or Russia.

Fuji TV would love to have it again in 2019, but with Japan hosting the World Championships in 2018, it may not work. TBS gets the World Championship TV matches.

  • Also the way the bigger tournament in May in Tokyo is organized seems very uneven to me and I see a big advantage for Asian teams.

Why do they qualify the best 3 teams first and then the best ranked Asian team? It should be the other way round like it is for all other continents. First the best Asian team (even if it is in the best 3) and then the remainings compete with the other teams from all other continents.

I don't really get how the qualfication system can be so screwed and teams are not complaining, it really is hilarious. And I won't mention anything about the Intercontinental tournament, that really is the craziest joke of all times. It looks like they chose the participating teams by rolling random dices (3rd from Norceca, 4th from Africa, guess what? no European teams). I think everyone agrees all continents have to be represented but once you have one each it should be based on merit and not on favoritism.

  • The Womens World Championship 2018 will be in Japan agina??? I hope not . . .

I doubt that Brazil or Russia would host the World Cup.

They don`t let Brazil host big tournaments due to low budget, violence/safety, and poor condition of arenas.

They even wanted to host the Grand Prix final round last year or this year, they only let them host this year World League final round because it was event test for the Olympic Games.

I bet Japan will still host in 2019, they will say it will a test for the OG
