Olympic Games - Brazil 2016 (qualification process)

  • I think you misunderstood the qualification process. It's not like this, first the best ranked Asian will get the ticket, then they will look to other best three in the table.
4 years ago it was like what you said, it was first team + best Asian except fist team.

  • I always had the question why Asian qualification is merged with world qualification. The problem is that some capitalists from fuji TV signed a contract with FIVB that world qualification tournament must be held in Japan.

You may say it's OK, still Asia can hold a separate tournament and then World qualification be held in Japan, but their answer is no, it's meaningless to hold a world qualification tournament in Japan without Japan. So the solution is to merge two tournaments. It's very stupid and unfair, but it's real.

I remember in 2004 (Men's) china had more points than AUS, but Canada which its place was secured, lost intentionally to AUS and send the other queen's country to OG. If Asia had separate tournament it was China's right to go to OG.

    Here's what FIVB says:

    Quote

The best ranked Asian team and the top three ranked teams from this tournament will qualify for the Olympics.

It can be interpreted either way, but I think the system will be the same as the last time.

No it is discussed here before, it is like what I said, you can read photos that is posted in the first pages of this thread.

  • Look what is says here:

It's pretty clear it will be like the last time.

OK I accept that it can be interpreted in two ways, but I think when they wrote: "The best ranked Asian team and the top three ranked teams from this tournament will qualify for the Olympics" it means first best asian then best 3.

Anyway Noncommittal is a specialist on this subject and created wikipedia page that says as I say. I request him/her to come here and explain.

  • Looks like modern day serving hasn't arrived in Peru yet, hardly any of them does jump float, instead most do those long high standing float serves that were the height of fashion 25 years ago

Yes, although I wouldn't say that in this match service is a weak point of Peru. Argentina is very shaky in reception. I think it may be a chance for Peru to use it.

  • Argentina close to ticket, it's 2-0 (25-20 25-20) :D

  • Unfortunately all my favourite teams lost a fight for Rio 2016. After Poland, Croatia and Belgium now Peru lost their chances.

Anyway, it's good for the level of the Olympic tournament that ARG won this match. Let's hope that ARG can make a surprise in matches against strong teams as they did against Serbia last year. :teach:

  • Peru has fallen apart in last set: 25-14 for Argentina, next team in Rio :flower: Peru goes to Japan, while Colombia goes to easy tournament
