2014 FIVB World Grand Prix

  • And that idea of Marichev's sounds like a fairytale now. In 20 days he plans to turn her from bad Opp to world class OH. 8| Does anyone believe that's possible?

Do you think she will be worse than Scherban or Pasynkova? Maybe her reception will be worse but Russia will have someone more to kill the balls. Especially when you think that Russia never attacks from centers, why need good reception?

  • i don't think we can expect high quality game in this tournament, many players are at their limit (physically and mentally). it's like a torture game .FIVB should reconsider this insane schedule.

I agree! Im glad that Turkey is in the finals but today Neriman had an injury, dont know how serious it is but I hope she wont start against China tomorrow. Moreover Kosheleva is also having problems in her knee.

I'm afraid she will be so bad in reception that no attack could save that. Goncharova is useless in defence. I don't know, but I think duo Kosha-Goncha as OH is a way to catastrophe.

  • Marichev said that Gamova,Kosheleva and Obmochaeva will play together.Even in the last interview he said that it's good that they qualified for F6 but on the other hand they've lost 7 days of training and after come back they'll only have 20 days of training and the hardest part will be making Obmochaeva a decent receiver. So I was thinking maybe she knows that no matter how bad she plays she'll be starter in WCH..But on the other hand she's a professional so I highly doubt that.

    He can use Hybrid 6.

  • I feel terrible for the Belgian girls. If they only qualified to Group 1, they could win against some teams or at least get some sets. But sending them directly to the final 6, it should feel bad for them. If the system does not change, we will see more of these results unfortunately. :call:

  • I don't think it was a good decision letting Van Hecke play versus Brazil. Even if they play at their best shape they cant beat Brazil. Brazil is on whole another level.. So if she was having some kind of problems I wouldn't let her play at all this F6 because WCH is way more important for them.. If they wanted some results they could've let her play against Turkey

  • I wasn't referring to you. I got your point of view last time we discussed it. There was a user here who actually wrote - I hate Malykh and Goncharova. And that sounded a little disturbing and got into my memory.
I can understand Gozde's agression. She's not tall and she uses a lot power to hit, so she need that power to come from within. If she will be calm and emotionless she will probably score no points at all. With all that I still think she was overacting today. But life goes on) :drink:

I like her passion most of all. She plays really passionate which is something most players don't have.. I have to partially disagree with you.. Although it may not look pretty, or it looks aggressive because of the facial expressions she does, she usually does not scream to anyone in particular or over the net (like many situations ex. Goncharova-Gamova, Picci-Ramirez) She takes a really good point starts screaming and then turns over.. It's like her way of celebrating.. When she gets blocked for example she instantly turns to see who blocked her and stares at them.. I don't understand this particular act and some find it provocative, I don't. I repeat, I am not saying she has never screamed directly into someone over the net, but just explaining that most of the time it's her way of celebrating..

  • I don't know if idea with the best team from 2nd Division is really good. Belgium is losing everything and is looking so hopeless, especially today. They were smashed by Thaisa on serve - 7 aces in 3 sets  and by Jaqueline who's playing so good after break 8o and she's still without club :!:

btw. I see some tensions between some of users  please chill out and don't care much - everyone can share his opinion, some comments may contain sarcastic sense of humour :D , but please DON"T INSULT EACH OTHER :wavy:

about Russia - Turkey - without Gözde it would be really hard for Turkey to get these results which they achieved :wavy: meanwhile Russia is still struggling, here is all about Kosheleva unfortunately... Startseva sets too ordinarily, there's a problem with reception and Obmochaeva looks like she has already given up :white: it maybe even goodbye for her if she can't deal with her position in team, but she's playing just poorly...

  • Just not enough to be strong in the field. Also, you must be strong outside. Turkey has learned(remembered) it today.

  • commentator just said China won gold in Beijing with Fen Kung  :aww:

  • Its amazing how since the Zhou Suhong/ Fen Kung etc China have been unable to find a team that can actually pass consistently well. As they have gotten taller and tried to imitate European style of volleyball it just hasnt worked out for them - wonder what Lang Ping's plan for them is.....

  • Having played a setter, it is very weird to watch the Hybrid 6 by Japan. I understand why you want the setter in the middle to set the outsides, when you only have 2 hitters in the front row, when the setter is in the front.

Plus you get a better setting player compared to the middle blocker.

However, for blocking, with the setter being smaller (usually) it gives the attacking player a better chance to hit angle and probably a better chance to put the ball into the court. If you have a taller setter, you take some of this advantage away.

I still prefer 2 middle blockers, which kind of negates this system. Plus can the setter become a good anticipating blocker and still get to the outsides for double blocks?

I am intrigued to see if other countries with taller setters may adopt this system.

  • Can actually work well for Turkey. Naz is 187cm. Moreover I think setters read where the sets will go much better which is an extra advantage.

However, in this system there is a need for 2 opp player, which is kinda hard for Turkey by considering that we can't find even one nowadays

This might work well for Russia indeed, Startseva is tall and they have two good Opp who can play meanwhile on the court. Also they don't use MBs much neither
